It was just a clause in his early release that was agreed to by all parties.

Agree, Knights looked likely with all the momentum but Rein saw to that and allowed the Dragons to get set.

Well that penalty against Elliot was a bit of bulldust.

Though, a fair few have been the older players, such as Nathan Ross who is around 26.

Yeh, fair enough. A lot of muscle tears and stains this year though.

I swear the Knights lose about 2 or 3 players a game. The strength and conditioning coach has to have a look at himself.

That isn’t the model for success. The hunter region has produced and developed multitudes of juniors into successful footballers, yet the Knights can’t afford to hang onto many of them. It seems money is the model for success.

Parramatta only broke the 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not get caught

In all the images of the Ross the try the crucial moment of film was blurring making it impossible to tell is his fingers had separated. I think with lack of clear evidence the decision should have went with the on-field one, like a Manly try a bit later on in the game. Also agree that Uate spilled the ball because the Manly players arm got him on the nose.

Feel for Mullen. He has been been unlucky with injuries his whole career. Also unlucky for Newcastle. A try seemed fairly likely as a result of Mullen’s break.

It was not a dive. The runner clearly made contact with him.

Where is the definitive proof that he does not have any downward pressure on that? Those are given all the time.

Clear-cut: grabbed him and held him back. No wukkas for the refs.

With the current refereeing of shoulder charge/high contact shouldn’t Coote have been penalised for his effort on Wicks (a brave effort at that)?

haha that too

Nailed it.

Penalty count evened up once Brisbane already in a strong position with the momentum.

I’d say the turning point in the Souths come-back was when they took the two instead of going for a try. That stalled their momentum and put Brisbane back on the front foot.

Disagree, Reynolds was the same distance away as Inglis who easily made it across in cover, before Oates stepped back inside. Thus, Reynolds was impeded from also making it across to defend.

At this minute Knights have Levi and Smith returning, which is already a boost. If the three concussed players, and especially Mullen, are fit then Newcastle will be a completely different side to the one that got belted last week. I agree that a Knights upset would not be surprising. Also now that Peter Mata’utia is back at the Knights the possibility is there for a Gagai, Mata’utia, Mata’utia, Mata’utia, Mata’utia backline.

Preston's previews: NRL Round 8

I would say the injuries suffered by Newcastle inflated Brisbane’s score by at least three tries. Newcastle have a very young and inexperienced side, so to lose Mullen, their hooker and a winger was disastrous. Newcastle had Bhana, an inexperienced lock/second rower playing hooker, two second rowers playing in the centres against the likes of James Roberts, and a young and tired forward pack forced to play long minutes, which in turn gave Hodkinson no room to work.

For the first 10 or so minutes the Knights were matching Brisbane and looked close to points; after Mullen had left Brisbane scored immediately and the rest is history. Against the Tigers the Knights, as well as playing at home, weren’t too badly hit with injuries. The result was a sustained performance that lasted pretty much the entire 80 minutes. With a bit of luck, or extra-ball conspiracy, this allowed them to sneak over the line against the Tigers.

The gap between Brisbane and the Knights is huge but Newcastle are a better side than what the game at Suncorp would otherwise indicate.

Shades of Origin as Broncos smash Knights at Suncorp

It seems like every game the Knights are down 2 or 3 people to injury.

I was thinking that and agree. Cowboys middle is vital to their success and retaining a strong one is probably more important than keeping Coote. If they can recruit a young fullback with a pass they might be set for next year as well.

Coote looks set to leave Cowboys

It’s the knights hi-vis jersey to acknowledge miners. They wear it for one round every year. It is a bit odd that the round chosen was against the tigers though.

The ball was kicked just before Rankin caught it, it was kicked well wide of him, and he should’ve had his eyes upward in any case. The ball should not have been on the field in the first place, why should the Knights be penalised for a member of the ground staff’s mistake. Sims was running directly towards the contest, the ball happened to be in his path and he kicked it forwards out of his way. Any other player in the competition would have done the same. Rankin should’ve done his job and caught the ball.

Spieth’s swing was shaky all week. He scrambled remarkably well and actually enhanced his lead for much of Sunday’s round. He was getting it done when he didn’t have his best stuff until just one too many (or two) bad swings did him in. You can’t scramble from the water. Willett hung around all week in tough conditions and then got it going when it mattered.
