Football in Australia is entering a conversion phase

I live here.
I go to matches with 20 friends, all Swedish. I speak Swedish with them.
I don’t go to expat pubs. I can’t stand them.
I don’t know any Australians here. I’ve lived here for 12 years. Limited amount of Brits.

I’ve stood on the terraces in the snow with 5000 people.

Your friends are wrong.

Except for my club and AIK, Swedish fans don’t really go to matches unless their team are winning or a derby.
Sweden is a hockey country.
They like watching sports (epl) at home with a bowl of chips.

All my friends have a second team. A number of them travel to England each year to watch games.
My club is an exception.

Hammarby IF…. “Bajen”

Only the end of last year. Can’t find any clips on youtube though.

This is from a recent game. We call it “växelramsa” gear song… Side to side. At our new staduim

At our old stadium

You just keep making things up.

I live in Sweden, and more people follow the EPL. This is due to them showing match of the day back in the 80’s and the violence that surrounds Allsvenskan games. 99/100 have a second team, and most are in England. A massive number follow Zlatan too, which ever league he plays in.
Denmark also follow the EPL
Norwegians are mad for Liverpool.

I also work with Latinos. The Peruvians watch the EPL, the rest (I’ll include Costa Rica watch La Liga), they all support Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Latvians also watch the Russian League,

I’ll guess like you but say Slovakia watch the Bundesliga.

When I was holidaying on the French Rivera all you see are Lyon, Marseille and Arsenal shirts.

As you keep getting things wrong. My club in Stockholm sings “the logical song” like wsw.

“The South Coast is the obvious choice for the next expansion. It is between them and Brisbane’s West, in which order I don’t really care. The Illawarra has over 450,000 people inhabiting it and Wollongong has around 290,000 in itself.”

————————-
“For soccer, that means the focus will be Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Of these major markets, it?s understood that Sydney?s south and south-west and Brisbane?s west and south-west are regarded as prime territory for expansion.

Outside of the Shire, the other Sydney option is to take advantage of the south-west growth corridor from Liverpool to Campbelltown, where the planned new Badgery?s Creek airport will supercharge the economic growth in a region where soccer already has a massive following.”

Way I see it says Sydney’s south AND south west. Not OR. Meaning two teams from NSW could be included soon.

Big few months for football on the NSW South Coast

I’m sure there are many examples of this….. But Celtic and Hibernian, come to mind. (Established immigrant communities)

And the old sailor teams, sure if you looked up many clubs histories you’d finding foreign influence

Australia well placed for Chile: Cahill

If you judge him against Van Persie fine…. Not Leckie or Taggart though.

Australia well placed for Chile: Cahill

Although I want us to succeed. Winning the Asian Cup in Australia is far more important. Cahill will play in that tournament too, you can count on it. The young players are being prepared. This is by far the biggest test most have had in their careers. A strong defensive performance in the tournament should help us on our way in January.

Australia well placed for Chile: Cahill

Dribble…. Like a baby

Australia well placed for Chile: Cahill

You should show more respect. Cahill is there not on reputation. He is there because he is still one of the best players in the country.
He is also there to take pressure off the other guys. All the time you and other people are talking about Cahill failing, you are taking pressure off our strikers. Cahill can handle the dribble coming from you and will do his best on the day for his country. We are not a one man team.

Australia well placed for Chile: Cahill

That’s why I think Souths FC . Putting the word brisbane would alienate yourself form GC fans and those just south of the border too. The whole reasons is that they are in the greater brisbane area, but not brisbane.
Problem is with the stadium. Logan city wouldn’t pay if the team wasn’t called Logan, and they would probably try to get a RL team to playout of there too
Then you have the sponsor issues too, plus where would everyone meet ore match, Woodridge or Loins social club?

Surprise results as A-League's expansion teams are decided

It’ would be to give a new identity in a way, lose they”brisbane” tag. Qe2, think I watched a broncos game there about 95 and remember it was shit then.

Surprise results as A-League's expansion teams are decided

Sydney will certainly bag a “big” name international, but I’d much rather have Broich and win the league 3 times. Remembering The 3 you have named haven’t won the title in Australia. 😉

Spanish star to play for Melbourne City

Don’t really know much about Sydney. Is this article just a publicity stunt?
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/macarthur/socceroo-brett-emerton-and-council-call-on-ffa-and-aleague-to-put-expansion-team-in-campbelltown/story-fngr8h70-1226914692186

Go where the fish are…. That’s Sydney.

My 14 are (current 9, dump Wellington)
9 + GC, Wollongong, Campbelltown, north Qld (Townsville) ,
The 14th one is hard. Canberra , the league must have a good plan in place

14 is a good size, 26 games + finals + cup

16 teams I would add Sunshine Coast, ( I think the population will continue to grow there, but they need keep building up the stadium) , then a 4th Sydney team? ?
Not sure Tasmania should get a team just because….. West west Sydney, north Sydney,

I don’t like the idea of that massive resort in Cairns.

If GC and SC had teams then Ipswich isn’t viable, not that I think it is anyway

Surprise results as A-League's expansion teams are decided

The fact remains SEQ needs another team.
At the moment, the Sunshine Coast stadium at Kawana isn’t big enough (ready) and the Fire are in the process of gaining grass roots support. When they stated they wanted an A-League team……. It seems politicians/club officials are doing this left, right and centre these days.
Ipswich….. I don’t know. I grew up in Logan (Don’t put a club in Logan) and I would never support Ipswich. This whole corridor thing people have written before… Doesn’t exist. Logan supports Brisbane Roar. When I think of Ipswich, I think, Kerrod Walters and Alfie… No thanks. Geographically Brisbane is much closer than Ipswich from Logan. Ipswich failed miserably in this years FFA Cup too.
When I think about the “Gold Coast” sports teams, there remains, Seagulls, Giants, United. That’s my own problem , but it’s there.
A Gold Coast team should be looking for fans all the way down to Ballina. Coffs Harbour is pushing it a little ;). Maybe fans would be more responsive to a local team name.
It comes down to money. Investors need to get their returns.
The dream scenario, is Roar + GC + SC.
Maybe Gold Coast football fans don’t want a product. They only problem would be if the club was willing. Then running both clubs (AL club & NPL u21, and Gold Coast League club) separately but somehow have them working together.

And keep the cool retro logo
