The ARU's NRC is ambitious to a fault
Rugby has so many issues at the moment. And the biggest is the current products available. Look at the crowds, adn if the Brumbies v Tahs don’t get 20+ then a review is need. Once this game would be 20+ guaranteed, no brained, Reds v Brumbs would have been 17-20,000. This year 13,000. Where’s the promotion? Where’s the excitment? ARU and the sport needs to sort this out and quick. ARC is just a pipe dream if the rest doesn’t work either!
Also I think the local derbys twice a year are diluting the product. Super Rugby should be rugbys answer to NRL and AFL, should be the answer to origin.

Agree that Super Rugby in Australia and NZ needs to look at there crowds to. Especially with no FTA coverage and they still can’t pull any crowds. There logic suggests no one is watching Rugby. League have a long season, RD 1 isn’t a time to panic.
Dear David: The NRL kickoff was limp when it should have been sublime
Problem for me is 2 ‘local’ derbys a year. I remember when playing the waratahs for the Brumbies at home was an event, it only happened every 2 years, it was a don’t miss. Now guaranteed visit very year. Additionally I would travel to either Brisbane or Sydney, depending on which team wasn’t visiting Canberra that year. Now I don’t bother, both will visit Canberra.
Super Rugby needs to return to the play everyone once. Games were more intense and meant more, you could not drop a home game.
