Started playing rugby at 5 , stopped at mid 20s. Have coached assorted ages. Have watched just about every wallabies game and support the tahs. Love the game and support it how I can and hope the wallabies improve. Please.

Geoff while Waratahs were disappointing as were the brumbies , the biggest area of concern for me is defence ..or lack of it. This applies to all the Aussie teams and the idea of getting a terry randall type in to teach every super player how to actually tackle ..and tackle hard….seems like a smart move to me. Focus on nothing else in defence for a bit except how to tackle ..and tackle hard and properly and safely. In particular the defence of Marty mark was ..indefensible ( sorry) …my guess is he let in at least three, if not four of the crusaders tries by sheer incompetence in tackling..using an old saying and now politically incorrect , he tackles like a girl..like a baby girl actually. He may be a great attacking winger but don’t they say defence wins games ..well our AU defence is abysmal in general. Occasionally an au team stands up ..but generally , we are abysmal at defence. That to me is the key to our ongoing hope of success. If I was Waratahs coach I’d have replaced mark marky at half time and said ..learn to tackle mate or you are out ..his performance was beyond bad as a defensive winger. …I imagine Wayne Bennett or even Eddie would pull someone pretty smartly carrying on like that after the second ‘ girl grab’.

Peter you think Taylor’s defence was good…the Argentinian massacre put that assumption to the sword. .I felt he was an ordinary defence coach..we need a Shaun or a Farrell type …or the Tandy guy. I never felt our defence was good at all under taylor ..though it was better that under old mate Nathan.

Luke Monahan ..is he one of the greatest oz backs to have never been picked for the wallabies? ..ok he got one test against Afghanistan or somewhere ..shame on all those coaches. …who dissed him …there is our best full back right there ..right ..there!

After watching the teams with great defensive coaches ala France and Ireland… surely the wallabies need a Shaun Edwards type ?… our defends is very poor. I feel That would help immensely especially if our attack is truncated due to a not having a good no 10 … thoughts.

Question? … .call me old fashioned. … I know he didn’t surround himself in glory against Italy but could jock Campbell do a Larkham and morph into a number ten ?
He has that physical balance that all good no 10s need. and he can kick and possibly pass. ? And I think he has the potential for deception in his play. He would need some work … I know it’s a long bow …but our options are Scarce.

Sadly nick the performance by the Aussies was poor ..this ongoing lack of skill and appearance of having no plan and no team structure, has been going on through numerous coaches in my view over quite a few years. Why is that ? And rugby smarts. Things we were coached not to do or to do as young uns seem missing from these professionals. It’s like they have no rugby intelligence in many cases. Taniela is done in my view. Lazy, lost interest , poor defence for a while now, scrummaging is now poor too , and terrible hands. He is too fat and I don’t see a longevity in him. No 10 is a tragedy …as is full back. Petaia ain’t it either..too many rocks and diamonds as Wayne smith put it today in the SMH. The campo goose step as a one trick pony doesn’t cut it in my view.
Do we go searching for young no 10 either Donaldson or some even younger ..a bit like the Phil kearns story..plucked out of oblivion?
I genuinely thought rennie would make a difference but injuries aside, I’m not seeing improvement now in his third year of coaching. Look at the impression checka made with the argies in his first year ! And I don’t like checka at all as a coach.

Adamson is an idiot. His refereeing is punishing and yes he should play the game on his own, as he lulls himself to sleep with the incessant blasts of his whistle. He lost us the game in wales last year with his terrible officiating and should be put out to pasture. He is like a parking cop. With no game context . The wallabies Argie game was punishing to watch mainly because of him.

Ok so it’s the same shocking ref that whistled us off the park and ruined any chance we had of beating wales I think it was end of last year. ! He was terrible ..not test class. Correct me if I’m wrong.

By view is that the best hooker I have seen in a while is the young Waratahs guy. He can throw tackle , scrummage and has a high work rate. He surprised he ..he is a goer. I’m not sure faingaa is the go either he can’t throw well enough etc. I think charlie gamble and mcreight have a some good stuff happening too. Gamble should be in the wallabies squad to get acclimatised.
Something ain’t right at the reds but can’t our my finger on it. Thoughts gents? ..open for discussion…

Yes they were big losses but we have gone ok in replacing them…and I didn’t say morahan was the greatest loss …just a great loss…and they weren’t forced out by cheika like morahan was because cheika couldn’t see his value and a top class full back with all morahans attributes is hard to find and we need that as much as anything else. .

I feel RA has done very well considering crap fight they have been in internally, covid and much wider range of state based entities than league. Credit where credit is due.
Now if we can just remove the parts from the flock so Inane bias And hatred has no airing, the better off rugby (and the whole world ) will be.
We are having a big night Friday with All my group of rugby tragically at my Mates new Majestic home And we are all very excited.

Has any one heard of the NZ rugby talking about threatening to go their own way unless Beaumont and co come to the party with overseas tour payments etc -maybe even look to a VC type investor to enable them to survive on their own? Apparently this is talk in NZ?

This all really started from my recollection when Far right nut job Murdoch press sycophant and mysoginist alan Jones started banging his drum about a nz woman ( sound familiar?) running rugby and then just dumping on her continually and loudly as he does. He’s the best shouter that’s for sure. Usually about non facts and incorrect information.
The strategy was always, as you allude to, to denigrate oz rugby so much that it becomes splintered and of low value so fox can buy the pieces at a bargain basement price. Just trashing our game. I was really excited About our game this year ..Cheika nincompoop gone, a great coaching team, many new chaps coming though showing promise etc…all as you mention. I note both wellrespected And interesting Australian Murdoch rugby Journalists Wayne smith and Mark Ella, didn’t support Jones in his tirades Of hate and anger that he is so well versed in. Or did they support Jones’ 11. .The sooner he goes away the better our whole country will be, not just in politics. His jaundiced, outdated and Tea party views have no place in our community and our game. He then combined with his Christian mate Farr Jones to create this fiasco we now see as oz rugby. It is Jones we should toss out. Without him these Jones 11/10 have no voice..no power.
Overall a very sad week with lots of complaints, disruptions but no solutions. If we lose our coaching team And have no broadcast capability then I think it’s back to 1971 , watching the Lane cove under 18 s or city country ( not a bad thing) on a sat arvo as the pinnacle of our game.
