True. That’s why I have been harping on for years now, that CA needs to place more importance on Sheffield Shield cricket and select the Test side from that competition. They have their contracted players in a cosy little cocoon and continue to pick them, I think, on reputation. That’s my view of the current structure anyhow.

Rejigged Aussie batting line-up fails again as top-order collapse puts Black Caps on track for drought-breaking Test win

don’t think so….ideally we need to be blooding someone in their mid-20’s as a long-term prospect. Bancroft is 31 now, 32 in 10-12 months and I wouldn’t consider him a long-term prospect at 32 years of age.

Bancroft replacing Khawaja when he retires?? Bancroft is now 31. Uzzi should have his superannuation wheelbarrow wheeled out now, along with Smith’s and Starc’s. It is time they were shown the door and replacements found in a re-jigged Shield schedule BEFORE the Indians arrive. I would give Renshaw first go as a replacement opener, maybe with Labs as a partner, and find another decent middle-order player from the early Shield games. Time to make some hard decisions and start rebuilding.

I thought I read that he came home around the same time as Warner and Hazelwood.
STOP PRESS – Yep, came home about 20th Feb. Refer this news item.

Agar must be injured though. The WA selectors haven’t picked him for the current Shield game.

Question without notice to all the Agar devotees: If he is such a “competent” red ball bowler and was badly done by in India selection-wise, why is he not playing for WA in the current shield match? I am a bit puzzled.

I frankly can’t see why. To me, the WTC Final is a contrived, artificial idea that proves nothing. I certainly won’t be dancing in the streets if Australia win, as it is only one game. The true “champion” test side has to dominate for 2-3 consecutive years against all-comers.

Smith bemused as India's curators roll out two pitches for Test while civil war erupts over Indore disaster

I hope you are right, DTM. That mob will stop at nothing to win, and the only answer is for the rest of the cricket world to have the Niagaras to isolate them.

Despite the negativity on here re Renshaw, I thought when he first played for Australia as a 20-year-old that he was a “good’un”. That is still my opinion. I even thought that one day he may captain Australia!! Laugh all you want, but I see a bit of “The Phantom” in Renshaw and would like to see him get a go in England, with Head at 5, which I think is his best spot.

Hoodoo gurus: Head shines as Aussies hold their nerve to end Indian drought with thumping win

Exactly what I was thinking, Rob. Anything is possible over there/overnight.

GOAT by name, GOAT by nature: Lyon's elite eight leaves Aussies 76 runs away from stunning win

Couldn’t agree more, Sheek. The runs conceded per wicket is the most important stat, in my opinion. To call him the greatest offie because he has taken the most wickets is like saying Jimmy Anderson or Stuart Broad are better pace bowlers than Glenn McGrath or D K Lillee.

I thought Wagner nearly did likewise for NZ…should have come off after he had the two crucial wickets of Stokes & Root. Many may disagree, but I thought he bowled some very expensive rubbish after that. Lucky to get away with it!!

'I'm as much to blame as anyone': Cummins admits Aussies batted 'too up-tempo' in Delhi implosion

In 58 years of following Australian cricket, today was one of the most brainless efforts I have ever seen. The Batsmen kept sweeping and kept getting out. My thoughts are that if they were able to muster another 50-70 runs, they were still in it.
My biggest disappointment however, was Cummins’ “effort”. Until today, I was very much a fan. But the disgraceful shot he played off the only ball he faced showed a lack of intelligence and a lot of desperation.
And the fact that he didn’t bowl a ball in India’s 2nd innings was a total abdication of his responsibilities.
Step up to the plate, Pat , or go down in history as the “Harry Hopman” of Australian cricket.

'I'm as much to blame as anyone': Cummins admits Aussies batted 'too up-tempo' in Delhi implosion

“So when the team performance is as poor as it is under Cummins”….what a load of bollocks. Since he assumed the captaincy, he has led the team in 13 Tests, winning 9, losing 2 with 2 draws. If Cummins gets the spear now, as a lot of the ill-informed commentators on here seem to want, he would probably have one of the best “Win” percentages in Australia’s history, apart from Neil Harvey, who has a 100% record , from one Test as captain. Who would you have as an alternative, LBJ?

'Hardening up' is a relic of the past, and while a 'fake tough guy act' worked for AB the cricket world has moved on

Surprised at the support for Punter on here….fantastic cricketer, but I find him very annoying as a commentator in that he talks far too much, in my opinion, as does Taylor. Although to be fair, perhaps they babble on as much as they do for the benefit of viewers “new” to the game? I also hit the “Mute” button when either of them are behind the mic. I much prefer the Benaud style, only speaking when necessary and letting the pictures tell the story.

Hey, Hey it’s Hayden: Former opener’s boorish commentary style from a bygone era should stay there

Kuhnemann one of our best bowlers? Last time I looked he had about 35 1st class wickets at about 34. If we MUST have a a left arm orthodox, wouldn’t Holland be a better choice on current form?

FLEM'S VERDICT: Head must come back but Aussies need to change game plan or they’ll get another thrashing

I’m puzzled by the comments here suggesting Head or Handscomb should replace Warner as opener. I agree now that Warner is no longer up to it, but I have always believed that opening is a specialised position and don’t think you can just shove anybody up there, particularly in a Test match. I’d suggest Renshaw to open in the next Test, with Head at 5 and, if fully fit, Green at 6. Would also play Hazelwood in place of Boland, provided Josh is 110% fit.

Healy slams 'pathetic' Indian act, Test legend questions 'murky' Warner call

CA have seriously lost the plot. What is the point of sending a bloke who has taken 35 wkts in 23 innings at about 34.5, simply because he bowls out of the front of his left hand???? FFS!! And isn’t there one of this type already over there?
