Clarke is actually a very aggressive batsmen, but he is also very controlled. He doesn’t see the need to hit the ball over the top because he is able to time the ball so sweetly and just push the ball into the gaps.

ASHES: Talking points from day two at Sydney

Not so much Anderson, he really hasn’t impressed me this series. Australia just isn’t suited to his style of bowling. Broad on the other hand hits the pitch hard hence he does well here.

I still feel if England want to get back into the team they need to pick Finn.

ASHES: Talking points from Australia's massive win at Adelaide

And he isn’t quite fit yet. He is still bowling of a shorterned run up. Bird the only paceman from the last ashes series that is once again fit. Although he has only been used as a net bowler and has yet to play a shield game.

ASHES: Talking points from Australia's massive win at Adelaide

I wouldn’t be suprised if they did end up picking Finn, i think he needs to do something similar to Johnson and just go back to his long run up and just let it rip. Let Anderson and Broad be the tight bowlers from the other end and just let Finn attack, don’t shackle him, just tell him to run in bowl fast and to the plans that have been set. Don’t worry if you go for 4 an over, broad and Anderson will go for less.

ASHES: Talking points from day four at Adelaide

how is it meaningless? Australia still need the last wicket

The way England look, you have to surely.

I love watching him bat he has all the shots, and he just looks classy. Everything he does seems to be so easy. If England want a way back into the series he needs to bat at three. Root, although he is talented and will turn out to be a top batsmen in a few years is not the player England need at 3 at the moment.

I really didn’t see a problem with Warner’s comments. He spoke the truth. Trott did look scared. We can’t start punishing people for speaking the truth.

Talking points: The wash up from a resounding Aussie victory

Yep Gary Ballance. He hasn’t played a test. And failed in every innings he played in the lead up to the ashes.

Talking points: The wash up from a resounding Aussie victory

Not really, its kind of hard for an umpire to give a decision like that out when the bowler doesn’t even appeal.

i think you mean open up the offiside.

the fact that most of the backs are suspended?

Let’s Talk Rugby: Wallabies v Scotland

Why? He is batting well. Waiting for the bad balls and just letting the good ones go. Australian batsmen could learn from him.

Are you as old as your picture suggests? Rogers just didn’t play the ball very well, he got cramped. So what is Warner has hit a fe fours they have been there to hit.

Yet he is easily one of the most accomplished batsmen in world cricket. He has an average over 50 and has been amongst the highest run scorers in test cricket for the last few seasons.

My predicted top six Ashes run scorers

Professional sportsmen should be banned from smoking full stop.

Zenman this issue is not the Alcohol here. The issue is that these guys broke the rules and as with any job in society if you break the rules you will be punished accordingly.

McKenzie cracks the discipline whip

No they are not school boys but certain standards need to be set and adhered to no matter the age.

Zenman take a teacher for example, is it appropriate for an educator of children to be out until 430 drinking then turn up at school at 830 and teach children? Being an adult doesn’t mean certain standards are no longer expected of you. Much the opposite in fact these men are role models and need to be treated as such. Playing rugby is not simply a hobby for these guys it is their profession, they know that breaking these protocols they would be punished.

McKenzie cracks the discipline whip

Yes they do have the right for a drink that was made pretty clear to them. Yes they have the right to go out and drink after the dinner, but if they do that they know they are breaking the rules outlined to them and they know they risk getting punished because of it. It is about improving the culture and discipline of the team environment.

Zenman this is what you are failing to see.

McKenzie cracks the discipline whip

Zenman it is about setting appropriate standards. What you are doing is choosing to ignore the fact that these are professional athletes that are being paid large amounts of money to perform. With that comes expectations that they will abide by team principles and standards that would have been developed by the coaching staff, tour managers and the players. They would have known that if they broke these rules they would be punished. It is a pretty simple scenario really. You’re just choosing to ignore the simple fact behind it that they broke the rules, and they should be punished for it.

Link said that the severity of the punishment was contingent on their reaction to being told of their suspension, how late they returned, how much they drank and if they played on the weekend. Thats why the 6 that were suspended, were all from the match day squad on the Saturday.

McKenzie cracks the discipline whip

Zenman these team standards would have been formulated in conjunction with the Players, thus they do get a say in the team protocols. These protocols would have been conveyed to the team on numerous occasions. The problem isn’t that they were drinking, as link has said as part of their discussions it was agreed that they were allowed a one or two drinks on the weekly Tuesday team dinner, the problem arose when after the dinner they broke up into groups and went out and drank more, missing the team curfew.

If Link just ignored this clear breach of team standards and protocols, what message does that send to the rest of the players on the tour, the players that have adhered to the standards set by the team?

Well done Link on taking a hard line, this will prove to be one of link’s most shrewd decisions as the coach of the Wallabies.

McKenzie cracks the discipline whip

Im a Tahs fan and I have always thought Moore should be starting, TPN is a fantastic player but he is too prone to injuries and racing out of the line, his throwing at line-out is poor and his general work-rate although good is not as good as Moore. Moore has been the most consistent player all season.

Wallabies far better thanks to Moore, Cooper and that man Folau

Scary thing is even before Folau went to AFL he was by far and away the best high ball taker in the NRL, and the time spent in AFL has only made him even better at contesting the ball in a pack, wheras in rugby league it is generally winger against winger in AFL you could have 4 – 5 people challenging for the ball. He is only going to go from strength to strength in Union.

Copeland and Sayers although good accurate bowlers are not fast enough to challenge batsmen consistently. They both bowl mid 120’s to low 130’s. If they want to make Australia they need to do a Philander and just continually hit the same spot all day long with movement. Sayers could be a good bowler down the track but im pretty sure the selectors will favour bowlers like Pattinson, Cummins, Starc and Cutting because they have that extra pace.

The Siddle riddle

He has had one very average year in SHield cricket, the season before last he was one of the highest run scorers and had an aveage over 50. The 3 seasons before that it was over 40 regularly 45 and he was amongst the highest run scorers each year.

Ashes: Australia's squad for first Test against England announced

Johnson, SIddle and Harris are actually all very good batsmen considering they are primarily bowlers. Siddle has 2 50’s, Johnson 7 50’s and 1 Century, and Harris also has a 50 to his name. Australia however can’t afford to not go in with 6 batsmen they need all 6 + the wicket keeper.
