A big fan of the Wallabies, but born and bred in England. Which is apparently an issue.

Can anyone else see the ghost of Matt Giteau in Kurtley Beale?
He’s 27 or so now, so perhaps a 2/3 year stint in the prem or even Top 14 (former would be better imo, especially with his past personal issues) would bring out the old Kurtley that was capable of the sublime?

Matt Giteau in the Pursuit of Happiness

Great line-up!
Back row especially I think could be absolutely devastating

A Wallabies team that actually makes sense

Well he did manage to score…
And he only played 86 minutes over three games
I mean is it still anonymity if the player actually isn’t there?

A Wallabies team that actually makes sense

As a massive Wallabies and Brumbies fan living in England, this Dean Mumm bashing that I’ve seen on here and GaGR seems to be based on his form before he came to play for Exeter?
I hope Cheika picks Mumm to start in the Rugby Championship purely so the things he bring are made obvious…
An Australian forward captaining an aviva prem team sounds like the start of a bad joke but I think there’s even a case for starting him ahead of Simmons… The attritional nature of NH rugby means he won’t be lacking in Simmons’ oft cited physicality department.

And what does mitch inman have to do to get a go? Tom English too to a lesser extent. I’m not a Rebels fan, but surely they should have more players than the Force?

If Lopeti Timani decides to turn out for Tonga I’ll never forgive Cheiks
Ready made successor to Palu, and with potentially three world cups in him… no look in.
Happy to see Coleman and Kerevi though

Wallabies announce train-on squad for Rugby Championships

Excellent Article that’s well overdue.
These three players are all mecurial, and it’s cliche but lookingt at their highlight reel on youtube really makes that clear. Kurtley Beale’s run against the boks in 2010 is one of the single greatest bits of running I’ve ever seen, and I think kurtley might be guilty of looking at those videos a little too often and trying to recreate rather than create anew (look at how much the Joey’s kurtley loved the chip and chase).
The thing that really saddens me is that I believe these three to be superior players to Matt Giteau, even in his prime, and they will set european rugby alight when they leave aussie shores. Make no mistake, the potential that seems almost wasted here is going to be realised elsewhere and the worst part is it’s no ones fault – great players aren’t always perfect.

Three Amigos can lead Australia to World Cup final: You heard it here first

For me this is quite a “simple” situation to solve, if not an easy one
Beat the AIGs in Brisbane and all is forgiven

The Springboks' game plan requires evolution, not complete reconstruction

Great article mate
If you ask me, innovation is the way that the All Blacks have stayed ahead of the world for so long.
The same way the Springboks would be unstoppable if they branched out a little in terms of the backs, the Wallabies would be a fearsome team if the forwards were a bit more abrasive.
I suppose there’s a slight difference in that the players are all there in South Africa (does anyone remember Timo Swiel? If not, give his high school highlights a look); but in Australia half the potential forwards are playing league.
The All Blacks have taken the best from both, as well as continuously creating new ways to play the game. I can’t see anyone else dominating world rugby for a period longer than a year until other countries follow suit (right now I’d say England are the next best positioned to dominate, because the structures in place for rugby over here are nothing short of amazing. Won’t win the WC though).

Brett Lee breaks Shane Warne's hand

If you were to take a completely unbaised standpoint, Cheika coaching Argentina might end up being quite good for the game over there

Reds look to salvage their season by beating Waratahs

I hate to say it but I very much doubt Pocock is going to be the player he was when he comes back… Good thing is that he’ll have one more WC after 2015 to get back up to his pre-injury levels, but next year is pushing it a bit imo.

Folau, Skelton star in Wallabies romp

I think it does matter a teeny bit, because the ARU is fighting a battle on more than just the financial front
Rugby in Australia is like it is in Ireland and Argentina – Predominantly white collar. That means a whole bunch of people who could potentially be good rugby players aren’t even giving the sport a go.
I’ve always said, if Rugby Leauge didn’t exist Australia would be the best rugby playing country in the world.

Folau, Skelton star in Wallabies romp

Sad but true
Probably the most repeated adage in Australian rugby circles but the grassroots are key
Improve the numbers of kids that grow up loving the game and stadiums will be filled kick, run or drop.
I for one quite enjoyed the game… it wasn’t end to end stuff but it was a tight contest. A bit like the world cup final in NZ.

Winning isn't enough for the Wallabies

I think having a certain number of Wallaby caps before being eligible to play overseas is the only way forward at this point.
Whether it’s 30, 50, 60 or 70, a figure needs to be agreed upon and implemented, that way the best Australian players can go and earn money abroad and still be in the selection pool.
It would work I think, whilst keeping the Wallabies strong and providing opportunities for younger players.
In order for it to be properly sucessful, I reckon a minimum age of 26 should be part of the deal, to stop prodigies like Beale and O’Connor leaving at too young an age.

IRB won't help Wallabies keep Folau

Perhaps it would be better long term if the Wallabies lost this test series. It’s probably the first time a lot of the French clubs will have seen Toomua, Kuridrani and Foley (amongst others).
If they play too well, they’ll all end up in France after the WC!

Israel Folau linked to Toulon move

It was his first start there but he came on as a sub at 10 against the All Blacks in 1997

Nothing boring about Jonny Wilkinson and English rugby

If you ask me, I reckon England will be the team to beat in 2019 rather than next year.
Players like Farrell (who is quickly becoming a good solid attacking fly half), Wade and Tuilagi will be in their mid to late 20’s by this point, and if Tuilagi takes a look at how Nonu has expanded his game, England could have a very potent backs line indeed.
Forwards are never really an issue for England imo.

Who will the All Blacks coaches pick for the England Test?
