What we do know now, without qualification:

Those behind this litigation, fail the “no d-heads” test. Well and truly. Debts not paid by RA to other parties over ‘several years’?

Did the creditors formally sign a moratorium allowing delay in payment? Or issue a single letter of demand to RA at any time over those several years?

I guess I am going to be gobsmacked, once the basis, for the Rebels’ claim, come out.

ANALYSIS: The Rebels aren't going down without a fight - and they might drag Rugby Australia down with them

Yes Mug

As you say / infer, ATO would likely only be claiming, PAYE which the Rebels have already declared, in past lodgements, is their liability.

But presumably, with an “understanding/expectation” that’s funds would be advanced to them by RA, in “completion” of top ups.

Mind boggling niaive incompetent of Rebels, and equally duplicitous presumably by RA, if not in writing.

The Wrap: ‘World’s best provincial rugby competition’ delivers a superb Super Round

Morning Geoff

Thank you for pointing this out:

If hastily burying your own Rebels-esque debt into a catch-all Rugby Australia bucket called ‘rugby operations’, for it never to see the light of day, and for everyone involved to keep tight-lipped about the quantum of that debt, and to what extent that impacts upon Rugby Australia’s decision making with respect to the future of all Australian rugby, then sure, let’s call that that open-minded. Other descriptors might be disingenuous and opaque.

Unbelievable.

I cannot think of the name of the band who sings that song.

The Wrap: ‘World’s best provincial rugby competition’ delivers a superb Super Round

Morning Muglair

It appears that the Rebels are disputing which company, itself or RA, is liable for PAYE tax on the topped up players’ salaries.

Bizarre.

How could any such misunderstanding, ever conceivably arise, between RA and Rebels?

Rebels said ‘thanks for the funds to cover net top-ups’ without confirming when the ‘PAYE balance’ would be received? RA failing to communicate, they were only ever paying ‘net’?

It would appear, both must be alleged (by either side). In that case, BOTH Rebels incompetent; AND RA duplicitous, and/or downright dishonest, in being content to mislead Rebels?

Is above analysis conceivably correct?

The Wrap: Opening round of SRP a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same

Game they play in heaven still with us. Really enjoyed 1st two matches in six nations this weekend, and result suggests France v. Italy worth checking out too 😊

Exclusive: Rugby Australia makes sweeping redundancies as governing body braces for 'economic headwinds'

JN

“rightful spot”

I query whether that assumption underpins so much erosion of rugby in Australia.

It’s a game IMO. Not a d swinging comp.

Look after the game, and the pinnacle will excel. Focus on the pinnacle, and you have no foundations, to be any pinnacle of.

Poaching NZ coaches won't solve the Wallabies' woes - the real solution is a lot less sexy

“That’s why I’m suggesting that the club competition in Australia should start the season. And guess what? All of the international players will play for their clubs.

“If you put all the Australian players into the club competition, where they can hone their skills, and then you pick the best for Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT to play in the Super Rugby competition, then you are going to start to see us really getting back to where we were at the beginning of professional rugby.

Poaching NZ coaches won't solve the Wallabies' woes - the real solution is a lot less sexy

Pretty simple.

The Q is whether Oz can afford 3 super rugby teams and a semipro national comp.

Answer appears to be no. So, 3 super teams, or a semipro national comp?

That I believe is the question.

CONFIRMED: Rebels CEO made redundant and coaches have contract cuts as hopes of Super Rugby survival fade

PS – NSW South Coast plus Riverina are ALREADY part of Brimbies catchment.

Which is why line needs to be drawn such that Eastwood and West Harbour clubs, plus GPS prime nurseries Joeys and Kings, would fall within ‘Western Sydney’.

Draw the line in QLD wherever best.

Let Rest of Oz selection be after QLD & NSW squads are selected.

CONFIRMED: Rebels CEO made redundant and coaches have contract cuts as hopes of Super Rugby survival fade

Hate to say it, but this is not just about the Rebels. It is about pro rugby in Oz overall.

Establishing the Brumbies was alway about ‘overflow’ players from NSW/QLD (doable).

But establishing teams in each of ACT, WA and VIC, on an ‘equivalent competitive footing’ with NSW & QLD, was always going to be the equivalent, of the AFL establishing teams in Sydney and Brisbane, and potting them against a combined Victorian team (selected Geelong, Collingwood, Hawthorn etc etc).

TV marketing dream, detached from sporting foundations.

Why is dumping ‘no longer super’ rugby the death of rugby outside NSW/QLD?

8 team national comp DESPARATELY requires pitting of ‘Sydney North’ v ‘Sydney South’ v ‘Western Sydney’. Add ALL of NSW Country to Brumbies. That gives Brumbies 3 Sydney city teams to beat, not just Waratahs. Nth & Sth Qld, divided by Brisbane River. Teams formally representing WA/NT and VIC/SA/TAS round out.

Tripartite “State/Territory of Origin” between QLD, NSW and Oz Barbarians (‘Rest of Oz’).

If you must have cross Tasman, let winner (only) of our Tripartite State of Origin. Play a single game against NZ top team.

'Massive impact': Wallabies gun says cutting Rebels will affect Victorian juniors - and points to John Eales medal winner as proof

John

Strongly back your point about tight 5 being the positions least at risk (zero?) of losing ‘potential Wallabies talent’ – whether U 12s or established pro level – to NRL or AFL.

If RA applied common sense, and wished Wallabies to succeed, it would place greatest emphasis – in exactly what form others best to opine – on tight five players.

Don’t focus on ‘star athletes’ in the backs who can be pinched by NRL or offshore clubs – rely more for Wallabies on backs with rugby nous who plan play as team with strong core skills, low error rate.

Back row arguably can look after itself pretty much.

IMO

Cheers
KP

Aussie rugby is shooting itself in the foot over its recruitment strategy. It must change to give Wallabies a RWC hope

Surely the main debate is whether zero ‘Super Rugby’ teams is best for Australia.

It sure ain’t the “Super Rugby” it was a couple of decades ago. Long time since it has been. Sooner R.I.P. that comp, the better IMO.
