As I see it McKellar was on an apprenticeship with Rennie to take over in 2023 or maybe 2025. Then Jones is sacked by England, McClennan thinks get Jones before a Tier 2 nation gets him (note a Tier 2 nation), sack Rennie, let Jones demolish the coaching structure of Rennie and put in place the eclectic choices of Jones. Upshot McKellar and Fisher move on along with Palmer after WC. McKellar has been denied his training wheels at international level but is a fine coach. He had a bit of time with Rennie to stand him in good stead. He will attract good assistants. So if he is the best coach for the job let him have it. But don’t deny him because a poor decision to employ Jones denied him experience.

If he won’t quit then the board should sack him. He is complicit in this whole debacle and needs to look in the mirror and see he is as much to blame as anyone. As for his centralisation model he has a tin ear. NSW have signed up because they had to and you bet they’ll be the big winners when it comes to money, resources and players.
