Yeah he’s a step or 3 up from both Adams and Lipinski.

Pies midfielder out of prelim with hamstring strain as September heartbreak looms again

He got in amongst it for a few hard balls gets against Geelong and did create some run. I’d like to see more of that.

Stands out like the proverbial dogs balls that one!

His career might be Channon but wouldn’t reckon he’s guaranteed a spot in the 22, along with a few others. Has had some good games, played particularly well against the Cats and has been steady lately. It’s a tough caper and good to have the competition for spots. Noble’s probably been a more consistent and integral performer than Lipinski. But happy if you’re man turns in a career definitely B.O.G in the next couple of weeks, or even if he’s just doing a lap at the G in 2 weeks with the cup.

That’s bad luck for Adams. He does the hard grunt work but also turns the ball over a lot. May open the door for Lipinski to keep his spot and prove his worth, or Harvey Harrison may get a guernsey. But Daicos will come straight in. Would be nice to see John Noble back in the side, he’s earnt it.

The footy gods love to do funny things with fate sometimes Pete. It is surprising Dees didn’t play him, particularly with Gawn having a broken toe, and with potentially an added 2 more finals to play. It made even less sense having Schache sitting on the pine. No wonder Gawn was exhausted by the end of the game, particularly rucking against 2 big mobile units. He had an easier game last week against Cox and Cameron. Maybe they were hoping McDonald was going to grow in match fitness as each week progressed.
Dees did Pies a huge favour, even though we’re currently not doing great in the ruck stocks. The time was right for an amicable split. I imagine a couple of extra latés every day and Grundy just might rediscover some form in Sydney as the number 1 man.

Don, really enjoy your comments when they’re pure football – you definitely know your footy…..Also enjoy some of your witty banter…….
I’ve always liked West Aussie footy, particularly South Freo, but both of the above are much better than the paranoid exaggerated bias W.A victim/grandiose clap trap that gets indulged in from time to time.

You talking about the same so called experts also commenting on all the Pies wins the last couple of years Col?

Finals Fix: How Melbourne killed their season with the butcher job to end all butcher jobs

Interesting call there. Grundy’s probably more effective than a non match fit McDonald, and Gawn obviously could have done with more support against Carlton’s big fellas.

Spot on. It’s good everyone can “voice” their opinion……which is essentially all the Voice wants to do. Be even better when everyone wants to deeply listen and also do some homework beyond watching the Sky (is falling) loonies after dark, or “researching” beyond Wikipedia.
As you say history and the big wide world out there shows there is nothing to fear.

The AFL shouldn’t sit in silence: why it should support the Voice at the Grand Final

Grem, from what I’ve read amongst all the posts it reads like you’ve put more research and thought into your comments than most.
I think it’s potentially too div1sive for the AFL to jump on board. The no campaign has largely been based on and driven by a dud opposition leader desperately seizing an opportunity with the usual suspects in an opportunistic right w1ng media, for good old fe@r m0ngering and wh1pping up hyster1a. Pushing the usual fe@r buttons in the cozy and comfy majority and/or the desperately ignor@nt.
This type of fe@r was also wh1pped up around native title.
Pardon the pun but it’s just too much of a political football now and it probably is fair enough that people don’t want to be dictated to by the AFL. It’s not like the AFL is right up there in the credibility stakes anyway with their track record in crass commercialism and g1mmicky chit.
I also think Albanese and co could have handled it better and timing has not been great. It looks like it won’t get up but you never know. Given that it’s an advisory board only it’s not that big a deal but it’s a shame it’s become such a divisive issue when it was an opportunity for the country to come together…..but that’s politics now in modern Australia.
Imagine what will happen if/when the push for Treaty happens. This is more important. The amount of hyster1a stirred up around that one will be another level or 10. But that may take another generation anyway and hopefully by then that innate redn3ck rationalising self-justifying fe@r in the Australian psyche that jumps at its own guilt ridden deeply repressed shadows will continue to gradually dwindle into an insignificant “voice”.

Poor old Ed, perpetual foot in mouth disease. It’s all about Ed, and always with the most “convincing” and saddest of rationalisations. His rationalisations are right up there with the yapping chihuahuas.

AFL News: 'Pure fun' - McGuire responds to outrage over Maynard celebration, great slams 'codswallop' Tribunal takes

Excellent summary and analysis Tim and not an indulgent stat in sight. Despite shooting themselves in the foot the Dees played better this week and looked like they were gearing up for a legitimate shot at the flag. But not to be, poor discipline didn’t help and “that’s how you pss a season down the drain”.

That’s not what I asked but fair enough if it works for you. He’s a commentator.

Finals Fix: The Lions just cracked September after four years of trying - and everyone else should be terrified

Yeah Josh had a shocker Peter. Elliott has had the yips with goal kicking all year. Might have to make him sub and bring him on in the last 15 minutes as he seems to mostly kick them after the siren 50 metres out on the boundary! Thought it may take Sidey a few weeks to click into gear. Another weeks break will do all our midfield wonders. There’s no spring chickens in there and I think DeGoey played hurt as well.

Finals Fix: The Lions just cracked September after four years of trying - and everyone else should be terrified

The Lions remind me a bit of Port teams who kept losing prelims under Mark Williams but who finally clicked in 04 to win a classic granny (against the Lions).
They also have the best blend of big men and talented small fellas that should be tailor made for finals footy on the G.
But Port could have easily changed the dynamics of that game last night if they simply didn’t buckle and blow all the chances they had created. Killed their own momentum and handed it back to Lions on a platter, and their forwards will make any team pay for that.
For the Pies, despite the addition of Hill, Markov, McStay and Mitchell they looked a lot better this time last year when they could have easily knocked over Geelong in the 2022 qualifying final, just as Dees could have easily won on Friday night.
Pies can still improve a lot and hopefully will keep lifting in the manic pressure and Nick Daicos will be a huge inclusion.

Finals Fix: The Lions just cracked September after four years of trying - and everyone else should be terrified

Brions????? Is that easier to write than Lions? It sounds like a bunch of Brian Taylors…. that’d be a worry.

Finals Fix: The Lions just cracked September after four years of trying - and everyone else should be terrified

The number of wins is pretty much irrelevant. It’s the integrity or lack of it, and motives, that will have a greater influence on the future.

To tank or not to tank: Will North come to rue final-round victory?

Lions showed they’re the most complete and the most skilful team in the comp tonight and deserve favouritism for the flag. But still 3 weeks to go and it’s a long way from over.
Port copped a hiding tonight but they squandered so many opportunities they had created and handed all the momentum to the Lions. Scoreboard pressure is the pressure that counts the most.

Finals Fix: The Lions just cracked September after four years of trying - and everyone else should be terrified

Tanking has been a media beat up this year, and is not really worthy of yet another article. Clubs have learnt from the disastrous results of the Dees and the Blues to see the cliff waiting at the edge of a proactive culture of failure, and know that culture is the key and trumps draft picks.
North made the right call and will reap the benefits.

To tank or not to tank: Will North come to rue final-round victory?

Anything is possible in finals footy mate, especially this year. But I’m still sticking with a Pies Port granny. That may change tomorrow but I think if Lycette is fit Port will beat Lions…. although Charlie D is a huge out for Port.

Finals Fix: Forget Charlie and Harry - it was Blues' sensational smalls that sunk the Swans

Takes humility and courage to admit to and owning mistakes and errors of judgement Peter. Well done. Wouldn’t be in a hurry to hear anything like that from any yapping chihuahuas though. Blues were in everyone’s final 8 at the start of the year and everyone, including me, but especially Blues supporters, wiped them after Essendon. And Blues supporters were loud in baying for Vossy’s blood. I’m glad for him that they’re doing well and we have to admit it is great for footy. I’d like to see Voss succeed as a coach, and he’ll get there with Carlton, particularly with Cook at the helm. At this stage of the year every team is a danger team/game but I’m reasonably confident Pies would/will knock them over. However Friday night showed we definitely need Nick Daicos there to take the overall skill level up a notch or two. Pies need to lift a fair bit but they’re tracking in the right direction.

Not so lucky in having to hear your usual bleating.

Finals Fix: Manic Magpies expose Dees' massive flaw - but here's why they should have to win it all without Maynard

Pies definitely lucky last night and generally played a fair amount of poor footy. Any team that wins a premiership has some luck along the way, as did the Cats against the Pies in last year’s qualifying final. Hoping the Pies step up from here.

Finals Fix: Manic Magpies expose Dees' massive flaw - but here's why they should have to win it all without Maynard

I know you live in hope Pete but Blues will be lucky to get to the PF imho. Not sure if it’s my own supporter bias with unrealistic expectations but I thought it was a poor game of footy last night and one both teams will be glad to have behind them. But in the context of the season and the finals it was a great win for the Pies and their most important win since Fly took the reins…….even better than knocking the Blues out last year!
