Entertaining article. I didn’t agree with everything but I agree that the rules are the problem with umpires consistency. Too many of the changes don’t address the main problems. I find the pace of the game has caused he rules to be ignored especially dropping the ball when tackled and throwing. Has anyone read the rule on handpass?

Kyrgios is definitely not a champion. It appears you have a much lower definition of what is a champion. How a person conducts themselves as well as their achievements defines a champion.

If there is only 1 min to go and 5 points difference then it doesn’t matter if 50 metre given as both teams deserve to win. There would have been many poor decisions or non decision during the whole game. It’s very simple stop arguing with the umpires. The Champions in all sports just play the game rather than complain.

You wonder how professional AFL players are when there are so many case of players not knowing the rules. I feel for the umpires having to explain so often yet the players are responsible for knowing the rules. Is it just laziness?

A good majority of handballs are throws according to the rules but ignored by umpires who apply their own version of the rule. This is what Clarko is getting at; the umpires have interpretations that are at odds with the actual rules in many areas.

It’s very evident that the AFL has still got a long way to go to succeed as a National sport.
While it dominates in Victoria they only represent 26% of Australian population.
NSW & Qld together make up 52% of Australians.
Surely it makes sense to expand the supporter base. The unevenness of teams across Australia, virtually ignoring half of Australia is not a good plan and limits the potential financial benefits.
It is time there was a plan to establish AFL as a national competition and I can’t understand why AFL supporters wouldn’t support this.
