Exactly. Best case i can remember was the complete meltdown our media had back in 2016 over that thrashing SA gave us at Hobart, when we got onto a 5 test losing streak. Nobody gave SA any credit for how well they played in the 1st or 2nd test, and we all know that loss was the precursor to the infamous 2018 series. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the opposition, and say well played.

Dude, CSA were on the verge of bankruptcy and falling apart until they started that t20 league (according to G.Smith). They lose money by playing a full strength team. Touring teams make 0 money from overseas games. Blame the ICC for the broken system, rather than the cricket players themselves. You’d rather they go bankrupt and financially collapse, just so you could watch a better test series? Short term loss, long term gain.

Cricket still operates on an old fashioned system of gentleman’s agreement, so they expect other teams to tour them and vice versa. So CSA literally dont make any $$ off this NZ tour or like when they pulled out of the odi Aus series last year. eople keep forgetting that touring teams make 0 money from overseas matches. Its only the host team who makes the $. But of course the ICC never want to address this issue for the smaller nations.

They’re only somewhat competitive in t20 format nowadays. Its a shame that Holder and Mayers skipped the series to go play in the franchise leagues. They get paid so much more for playing in franchise t20 leagues compared to playing tests. 1 example I saw was Mayers is set to get $250k USD for playing in the SA20, compared to $30k USD he’d get playing 5-6 tests for WI.

Aus did tour there in the middle of 2021, but only for odi’s and t20’s. Shame that it’ll be a decade since the last time we played tests there.

I read online that Kyle Mayers skipped the test series to play in the SA20 league, where he’s expected to get about $250k USD, compared to the $30k USD for playing 5-6 tests for WI. The non big-3 players just dont get paid enough for them to encourage them to play tests.

Exactly. Seems like a short-term solution. Renshaw or Bancroft should’ve got the opening role alongside Ussie.

CSA tried to get them to move the series to late Feb/early March by NZC refused. So unless a miracle happens, or they get non-stop rain over there and sneak a 0-0 draw, it looks like NZ will most likely finally beat SA in a test series (albeit against their D-team).

This is the issue with the big3. Most of the Aussie public dont care about the games unless its India or England we’re playing.

100% agree. Ironically thats what started the whole feud with Mitch and Warner. Its a pretty clear conflict of interest when you have Candace on there, who cant give objective or neutral analysis (I remember she got really pissed at Dan Ginnane when he questioned why Dave was still in the test team).
I agreed with Mitch at the time that it looked weird having her on there defending Dave’s abysmal test numbers the last few yrs. Not even a conspiracy anymore that Dave has inside info that would completely ruin CA’s brand/image, which is why they’ve kept pandering to him.

I wanna watch a competitive series, but it’ll be hard to see Pak winning any of the tests. They havnt won a test here since the 95 series, and have lost 14 tests in a row in Aus. Only chance they’ll have is if the curator serves up a raging greentop like last yrs Gabba test and the game becomes a bowler shootout. Always loved the view at the Waca, its a shame they’ll hardly play anymore internationals there anymore.

Considering Pak are very close to being knocked out, if they somehow sneak into the semis they’ll be energised and could turn up on the day. Either redhot like the ct17 final, or all out for 150. Never a dull moment with them.

David is a bit inconsistent, and a below avg fielder, but can easily strike a 12ball 30 or so down the order at the backend of the innings so I’d keep him.
