I might end up quitting the AFL over this. That’s not a threat — obviously nobody cares whether I watch or not. But this sort of thing is stomach churning, it can poison the well and ensure that the game forever leaves a bitter taste in one’s mouth.

If racism can hound a man out of the game in 2015, with the AFL as an institution and in the form of its various privileged voices (commentators, panelists, etc.) showing less than full-throated condemnation of the behaviour that has led to this juncture … I don’t know if that’s something I want to associate with.

For years I’ve thought the AFL has been a bright spot in terms of accepting indigenous Australians as part of the broader national culture, it’s part of the reason I was proud to be a fan of our uniquely Australian sport. Don’t let things go this way.

Why I have given up on AFL

Indigenous players across the AFL should show solidarity and undertake collective action, e.g. refusing to play until the AFL takes this seriously.

The AFL risk losing much more than just Adam Goodes

Taking a break means the racists win. Don’t do it Adam.

It’s amusing how out-of-sorts some folks get when uncomfortable truths are pointed out.

Port were awful on the day, Carlton were outstanding. The umpiring doesn’t change those facts, and a different result wouldn’t have changed them either, but the umpires *were* responsible for getting the Blues over the line. It’s as simple as that.

Were Port Adelaide robbed against Carlton?

Of the 101 games that’ve been played so far in the 2015 premiership season, only 9 have generated a free kick ratio of 2:1 or greater.

At 2.4:1, Carlton vs Port Adelaide, Rnd 12, is the second most lopsided match of the season.

#1 was Fremantle vs. Essendon, Rnd 6, at 2.5:1

Anyone care to guess where that match was played?

Power didn’t deserve to win after delivering such a poor performance in the second and third quarters, but would’ve stumbled over the line regardless if they weren’t having to play against the umpires as well. The final free count was something like 24-10.

Not that it matters in the greater scheme of things — win or lose the Power evidently have some hard work ahead of them if they’re to contend next year.

Credit to Carlton for their performance and belief. The future is certainly looking brighter than it did a few weeks back.
