Agree with your first point, great match, great crowd. Dunno about you second though, there is always something to play for in the Southern Derby, it hadn’t been played in Dunedin since 2018 and it was Grad week at the university, the crowd would have turned up regardless.

The Wrap: Spare a thought for injured players as Super Rugby’s two rutting rhinos deliver an epic final preview

Playing for coaches who changed the backline just about every game and with a game plan that was just pure stodge. He knows how Razor wants his teams to play, I think he’d thrive in the ABs now.

'We would like him back': Razor plotting to bring back Richie as NZR open up on eligiblity, Sio staying put

Should go back to the way it was originally with top 4 only. Maybe have bowl & shield semis & finals for the other 8 like they do in Sevens.

Tahs' season hanging by a thread after Chiefs go whack to post bonus point win

When did they start interviewing the refs after a game? This was actually quite good:

Blues beat Crusaders for first time in 10 years, Chiefs survive late scare

LOL. 😂

..although to be fair to Southland, Otago hasn’t been that great recently either.

Blues beat Crusaders for first time in 10 years, Chiefs survive late scare

“Very real NPC rivalries were replaced by bizarre Frankenstein entities that lacked even a geographical location in their name.”
Actually, for the first few years, NZ franchises did have provincial names, Waikato Chiefs, Auckland Blues, Wellington Hurricanes etc. And the tribalism was strong, the Hurricanes got massive support in the lower NI from their mish-mash of provinces.
It was the Aussie/SA insistence on having more teams that killed the comp more than anything.

Passionate, visceral, irrational tribalism is vital for any competition to succeed. Is a lack of it damaging Super Rugby?

But that’s not his job, that’s the job of the ABsXV and other development teams. His job is to pick NZ’s best players and win.

'It's time we grew up': The jarring hypocrisy that proves All Blacks are getting key call all wrong

I’m sorry, but if people are desperate to keep the the Rebels & SR in VIC, then why is no-one turning up to support them or the Super Round? Melbourne crowds have been woeful. You can’t say it’s bad marketing either if the grassroots clubs/schools know about it being so close to the Rebels as you say, so where are they? SR games aren’t that expensive to go to.

The Wrap: Reds light up Melbourne, while it's lights out for TV over Lienert-Brown concussion

Probably too political to answer here. But here’s a link to a RNZ article that explains it:

Didn’t Hamish put on a few soirees in Paris near the Notre Dame? Champers ain’t cheap.

I wouldn’t mind the increased TMO use so much if they were just used as an extra pair of eyes in real-time like the touch-judges and it was up to the ref to decide to stop play. The forensic analysis and calling back play 2-3 phases for minor offences was just ridiculous.

The Wrap: ‘World’s best provincial rugby competition’ delivers a superb Super Round

That was the first time in a long time I really enjoyed a weekend of Super Rugby even if the Highlanders lost. MP vs Drua was just mad. Not having the TMO sticking his oar in every 5 mins has been so refreshing, even if the officials miss the occasional forward-pass or knock-on, who cares? We’re getting flowing rugby again. Still need to sort scrums out though, way too many resets. Great to see the Aussie teams step up as well, I was really impressed with the Waratahs no.10. Bodes well for the rest of the comp.

Yeah, I can’t say I’m a fan of it either. The Reds deserved the draw there.
