I've spent my entire life being captivated by all sports. I follow numerous teams in numerous sports. Rugby League: St George Dragons/ NFL: New York Giants/ Football: Spurs/ NBA: Charlotte Hornets/ Baseball: Boston Red Sox/ UFC: Conor McGregor Quote: "What would life be without the sports we love"

Me too Nicholas, I think it’ll be great to see him playing here in Oz, and under the watchful eye of Postecoglou. I’m predicting it won’t be long before we see him back in the Socceroos squad. It was only an injury that prevented an Asian Cup call up. Before that, he was a composed presence in the World Cup and created goal scoring opportunities.

Speculation builds over Bozanic signing

What a life. What a story. What a career. 12 time Melbourne Cup winner and Australian racing icon. Will not be forgotton.

Bart Cummings passes away at 87

Anthony Milford has that X factor. It’s great to see talent like that get an opportunity to flourish. Since coming to Brisbane I think we’ve seen a more consistent Milford.
Which brings a thought to mind. It’s a shame that other clubs can’t get the best out of players. You see time and time again how a player just sits on the edge of something special at one club, and then goes to a ‘Brisbane’, ‘Melbourne’, or ‘Roosters’ and suddenly finds their potential that was always there. I think it would be great for the game if all clubs had the potential to shape and mould the potential superstars the way Brisbane has done and will continue to do in the future.

The highs and lows of Round 25 rugby league

There’s a few possibilities. It might come down to a little bit of favouritism. I think the name on everyone’s lips is Bird for Cronulla, he’s had the most media attention throughout the year. Deservedly so. He’s had a break out year. As for whether he can continue to be a standout performer next year remains to be seen.
He’s a bit unpredictable, which works to his advantage, but he’s going to have to keep learning as a player, and adapting his gameplay to suit the changing contexts of the game.
Others in with a chance – Jake Trobojevic, Solomone Kata and Kane Elgey.

Who will be the rookie of the year - and does it actually mean anything?

The Barry:
You’re right there, the inconsistencies are slowly draining the life out of this game. There has to be a governing body that communicates with the public; is not too egotistical to come out and make common sense changes; and doesn’t see everything in black and white. Sport will never be just black and white. There’s going to be plenty of grey as the sport evolves and rule changes are made.
A more realistic approach needs to be taken if the NRL wants to keep the respect of the remaining fanbase.

Tackling the shoulder charge confusion

Absolutely. It’s a tough one because you don’t want to see any more serious injury, or worse. But then common sense tells us that this is a contact sport, and that we see players being hit in different styles of potentially dangerous tackles all the time. Unfortunately in typical NRL fashion there’ll be a debate that goes on way too long before any pro-active action takes place.
Yes, ban the shoulder charge that’s deemed dangerous. Let the others go. I think we just need an experienced judiciary that understands body mechanics, physics, and the game to be relied on here for common sense decisions. Good to see that Taufua got off today so there must be some common sense in there somewhere.

Tackling the shoulder charge confusion

Spot on Don! A good result today with Taufua being cleared.

Tackling the shoulder charge confusion

Couldn’t agree more. Well said!
So much emotion embedded within the culture and history of this game. People are emotionally invested, and therefore have stronger opinions. For example, when topical discussions arise in this game (which we all know is often) people go from logical to irrational in a heartbeat. Why? Because of the emotional attachment to the subject at hand. We so often see this with the ongoing bombardment of opinion, debate, argument and confusion throughout the season (and offseason). Sometimes this ‘any exposure is good exposure’ can be productive, but I think most agree that in the NRL’s case, more often than not the negative exposure is counterproductive to it’s goal as being the premier sport in Australia.
It would be better for the game if the NRL took the appropriate steps to improve ‘management & communication’, where the right balance of knowledge, experience and brains came together to find rational solutions to the ongoing growing pains that seem to be forever immersed within this great game.

Why is rugby league never happy?
