Bozanic signs with Melbourne Victory

The Melbourne Victory have signed midfielder Oliver Bozanic. The Australian international, who spent the last two years in the Swiss Super League with FC Lucern, has agreed to a three-year deal.

The club who are looking to claim back-to-back titles when their A-League campaign kicks off on the October 9 against Adelaide United.

I interviewed Oliver just after he signed his new deal:

LR: Oliver, firstly, congratulations on signing with the Melbourne Victory, excited to be back on home soil?

“Thank you. Yes very happy to be back on home soil and to be joining Melbourne Victory. I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”

You’ve been playing in the Swiss Super League for the past two years, how was that experience, and what has it done for you as a player?

“I really enjoyed my time there on and off the pitch. It was great to be in Europe and playing at the top level. It’s given me more inspiration to work harder and play at the top level.”

So playing with Melbourne Victory, the current titleholders, what are your goals for the up-coming season?

“I’m very happy to be at Melbourne Victory with such great players. I want to work hard every day at training and in the games. I want to give everything for the club and in doing so I hope that brings the results that the supporters, the club, and I would want.”

Victory have gained a versatile midfielder with leadership qualities, who is sure to strengthen their squad.

Bozanic began his career with the Central Coast Mariners on a short-term contract and has played for English club Reading FC, who in that time competed in the Premier League and Championship.

Following his time in England he returned to the Mariners, where he won an A-League title in 2012-13 under now-Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold.

After his success at the Mariners and eye-catching performances for FC Lucern, Bozanic was named in the Socceroos’ 2014 FIFA World Cup Squad, where he showed he could match it with some of the world’s best in impressive displays against Holland and Spain.

Victory and A-League fans alike will be keeping a keen eye on the young midfielder when the A-League kicks off in October.
