Hayne should feel lucky here – he deserved to win the most over-rated, worst buy and most disappointing.
The best and worst of the 2017 NRL season
Or Cronk instead of Cherry-Evans at halfback?
The best and worst of the 2017 NRL season
In the Souths game Bryson Goodwin was deemed onside by the video ref for not having both feet behind the kicker despite the fact he was running and his front foot was in the air (back foot was ok). Radradra contested a ball off a bomb despite being a good 2m offside and about 1m away from a touchie and nothing. The Titans have a try scored against them to lose the lead in the final 10 minutes of what could have been the biggest upset of the year – video ref used? No, certain try. Don’t worry SportsBet, your $9 odds are safe…..

Lots and lots of bitter instead as the refereeing this season has left a rather nasty taste in my mouth.

My thoughts exactly. If not a penalty try, then a definite sîn bin.

Check the onfield refs earpiece for calls from SportsBet and the NRL’s scriptwriters.

Thanks for the call Stuart.

Hard to believe some of the soft gifted penalties for the Chooks at the end which carry the same punishment as carelessly knocking a guy out. The refs seemed a little biased today, not that the Titans needed more obsticles- they have a heavy passenger on their “plane” already.

It’s because he is “on” 1.2M but is “worth” about 50k.

Were those chasers onside?

The refs have again left their balls at home. Titans down a man and a man on report for a high shot, Maddison runs in and basically nothing…..they just make up the rules as they go.

Titans have to beat the odds, the roosters and the refs huh?

Perhaps there could be a program within the NRL to train retiring players to become refs? They all seem to want to stay in the game as coaches but why not refs? There are only a few refs who were players and the others seem to be rather bookish, nerdy characters who don’t seem to demand respect from the players. I wonder how well players would respect a ref who had genuinely played such as a Lockyer, Johns or Cam Smith – surely they would have a good feel for the game and some would argue players like Smith act as a ref already. It might be a nice way of continuing a career in NRL afte retirement – there are only so many commentator and coaching jobs and may help the public and players alike to gain a ne respect?
Refs are the best
Looked a bit like a “Clayton’s” knock that one.

No, amazing how players seem to get so predictably tangled up when close to the line, seems to take ages to untangle….

Were Bennett or Gibson “greats”? Demonstrably not, however they are considered great coaches. A great player does not necessarily mean a great coach. A past great does not necessarily mean that they are a good leader or manager of men. Big egos don’t need bigger egos to keep them in check. If the ego is too big for the team and the player is not a team player – simple, they don’t belong in the team. This is the same problems NSW have had for years – they pick teams of stars and fit them in where ever.
What NSW need to do is simple:
Step 1. decide what style of game they want to play to beat QLD
Step 2. decide which players fit into the style of game they want to play
Step 3. select the best players for the team that is required (even if that means excluding “stars” who have previously been walk-ins to the side despite form
Step 4. instill a no-D__KHEADs policy – this means that the coach can be a good coach and not a former “star”
Andrew Johns, it is time to put up or shut up
Or…….. he doesn’t want to do it because that is what he said! Why do we need this overly analytical psychobabble!
With his well known history of mental health issues and past controversy with SOO coaching – Timana Tahu etc, perhaps Johns genuinely does not want the job despite the fact that apparently you can tell he is thinking about it!.
Andrew Johns, it is time to put up or shut up
May I ask TIm, why it is so important that the coach has played Origin and even more so, why does the coach have to have been a “great” origin player? surely this just puts unreasonable restrictions upon who can possibly be a coach for the Blues. The reason why I ask is that if you look a the All Blacks, considered the most successful sporting team in history, they do not use ex players as coaches. They use coaches as coaches. The only recent coach they have had who has been an AB was John Mitchell who was not liked and was not that successful. The subsequent two coaches who have been very successful both on and off the field have never played for the ABs.
Andrew Johns, it is time to put up or shut up
Surely Johns is the last person to be the coach for the simple fact that he said that HE DID NOT WANT TO. Seems simple enough to me. He is entitled to his opinion and to comment on the Blues coaching for the simple fact that he is paid TO BE A COMMENTATOR.
Sorry for the CAPS LOCK but surely the best coach for any team is the one who actually wants the job.

I think the ARU also seems reluctant to sign new talent because they are so reticent to let old talent go. Look at players like Moore. He should have been moved on by now but they continue to select him despite being well past his used-by date. Get rid of the dead wood when no longer needed and restock the player pool with new up and coming players. The Angus Crichton story seems to concur with this theory.
Why the ARU needs to beat the NRL to sign prodigies like these
Mum always said that honesty is the best policy – sorry if that seems nasty.
Wallabies need Test warm up: Hooper
Good call Captain obvious. In his next expression of genius Hooper then states “We think that by putting studs in our boots, we might slip over less”.

The refs just ignore all rules within 2 m of the line! Offside, unsquare markers, interfering with the play the ball!
