They shot the coach first in this instance.

Kevin Walters must try to raise the Titanic

I think Dean Pay would be good – he could teach the Titans to tackle by using Hayne as the tacking dummy.

The firing line: Six aspiring NRL coaches waiting in the wings

The big question is not if Walters can coach the Titans, it’s a question of can he motivate Hayne. I suspect that unless Kevie is planning on having the entire team hold Hayne down and beat him with socks containing bars of soap like in Full Metal Jacket, I suspect that failing miracle the Titans will continue to disappoint. Their only hope is that Hayne has another dream and buggers off to be a bob-sledder or pole vaulter or ninja or he is offloaded to a rich Japanese or French rugby club.

Kevin Walters must try to raise the Titanic

I am constantly amazed how poorly NRL clubs are run and how ridiculous some decisions they make are. Do these people not realise that they are running a business and the football team and winning is the product? How on earth they thought purchasing Hayne at a stupidly inflated price was a good idea to start with, with his flakey track record on field and destabilising effect off. I like the Titans and Henry and think he and the other players and fans have been dudded on the Hayne deal right from the start.

Sacking Neil Henry was gutless

Hayne also now plans on re-branding the failing TItans as “The Squadron” and they will all take up call-signs instead of names. They will leave their new Parkwood facility to take up residence in a hanger at Coolangatta airport.

BREAKING: Jarryd Hayne named captain-coach of Gold Coast Titans

You’re right Gaz, I think I have missed your point.

You don’t think they would also turn up on Saturday or Sunday Gaz?

Don’t worry, even with my small mind I know why they do it, I just don’t think it is right or fair to the other clubs, sponsors and fans of other clubs. By the same token how many show up for Souths every Friday? Yet they still get almost every Friday night despite being low on the ladder.

What? Souths on a Friday night? No way…..but what about the Broncos, what will they do?……oh wait, what? Broncos on a Friday night? No way?…….

It’s like déjà vu all over again.

Things they should bring back in rugby league but they won't

Put a face on gambling who is recognisable as an ex-player not the privileged son of a racing tycoon and Bob’s your uncle – free for all.

They are advertising “specials” and “opt outs” and “full time if your team is ahead by 12″…..I don’t gamble but know all of this jargon due to constant TV bombardment which is broadcast at times that kids watch TV – I guess from an advertising perspective it has worked perfectly – from a moral perspective it puts the NRL in a terrible position.

Gamble Responsibly.

The biggest disappointment this NRL season

Yep, “gamble responsibly” – surely the biggest oxymoron there is.

The biggest disappointment this NRL season

I agree Adam, unfortunately most Aussie Roarers have probably only watched Wallaby scrums! – get two good scrummaging countries against each other and it can be great. A relatively poor scrummaging team like the Wallabies tend to try all the tricks to get penalties which leads to collapses etc and a boring game. Watch Pumas vs Italy scrummage – awesome.

Things they should bring back in rugby league but they won't

Persistent pushing of betting and odds. As a non-punter it drives me insane, and the way that the NRL and TV stations have allowed this is ridiculous. I see Joel Mullen on TV as much as any commentator and his banter results in the normalising of betting in the game. Commentators now can’t simply tell you who they think will win, they speak in odds and 12+ score lines etc. Do they not realise that this persistent pushing of betting combined with terrible refereeing and inexplicable bunker decisions make the entire NRL look fixed?

Gamble responsibly.

The biggest disappointment this NRL season

I think a team should learn how to pack a scrum properly (union-style) and at scrum-time, pack properly, low and tightly-bound and then wait for the opposition to pack. If the opposition refuse to pack the same way they should get penalised and if they do attempt to pack properly, push them off the ball. I would put cash on it that the refs would stop them and make them pack “properly” (standing up, not bound, not pushing).

Lucky they insist on playing in a massive stadium

What amazes me in all this drama, is that Hayne has managed to get a contract for such as large sum of money with no apparent clause regarding his effort and attitude. Given his very chequered history of being a poor trainer, putting in variable effort playing and history of being a coach-killer, any sane employer would have a clause in his contract which allowed for his dismissal or reduction in severance if he violated such clauses. I know effort etc, is a complicated thing to objectively measure but even a blind-man could see this coming. I feel sorry for Henry as he will be the scapegoat and the Titans will go from being a solid team of triers to a fractured group of rabble who won’t play for each other – I hope I am wrong.

Neil Henry is a very good man, and a dead coach walking

When I saw “Aaron Woods” and “backup-plan” in the article’s title I thought it was a critique on how he reverses into tackles!

Aaron Woods has no back-up plan if Dogs are over salary cap

Hahahaha. Tomic openly states his lack of passion – Hayne prefers to allow his actions (or lack thereof) to do the talking.

Jarryd Hayne's Gold Coast future to be sorted at crisis talks

Henry should stay, Hayne should go. Simple. The Titans were building a great side in late 2016 with very few big name players – then Hayne arrived and upset the apple-cart. Since he has arrived the “team” that was build has been fractured – not completely Hayne’s fault (although his attitude and effort on the field and at training is no secret). He is not the correct fit for this team.

I don’t think that’s how rules work though
