Just imagine a Head/Fraser-McGurk combo at the top. These blokes are fearless, talented and hugely entertaining. Not saying Warner wasn’t, but I think he no longer is.

Head and shoulders above: Why Trav is the key to Australia's T20 World Cup success

Enjoyable read. Jessop’s test century is the fastest by an English player but there have been 15 other test centuries made in fewer balls, including two by Baz himself, one being the fastest of all time in 54 balls.

The true inventor of Bazball was born 150 years ago, and his records are still utterly bonkers

Six Points: AFL must act on Cameron concussion farce, 2024's best game, and the end of days arrives in Victoria

Tim, mate, I ignored it last week when you used it, because I thought it may have been a slip, but you’ve done it again. It is not “hammer and tong”. Tongs is the word. Tong is a Chinese criminal organisation. Tongs, and hammers, are used by blacksmiths, which is where the expression comes from. You also use tongs at a barbeque, or in all sorts of ways, but, hopefully, not a tong.

Do we really need to copy every frigging stupid thing the Americans do or say?

Having watched a bit of the IPL I am a bit surprised that Abhishek Sharma isn’t in the squad. He seems like an incredible talent with a temperament made for major tournaments.

Bona fide 'passengers', no-brainers and 'Agar from Wish': A candid look at India's perplexing T20 WC squad

Every time there is a draw we get this nonsense. As McRae said a draw is a result. Should horses, or humans, run another ten metres in a dead heat? Should gymnasts who have a tied score have a somersault shootout? Draws in Aussie rules, ties in cricket, dead heats in other sports, are exciting to see, and they are a result. At the end of the TV coverage yesterday the camera settled on a man wearing Bombers regalia and a woman Maggie supporter who turned and looked at each other both with giant grins on their faces. That said it all.

AFL News: North OF Melbourne? McGuire's bold idea to rejuvenate Roos, Scott slams sub rule after Anzac Day drama

Brilliant Les. The AFL has ruined state competitions. It has turned a wonderful sport into nothing more than an industry.

'Murky decision-making, novice administration and unaccountable governance' - how the AFL has fallen

Head has a quality that many sportspersons would give anything for. He has become nerveless. He relies on his incredible eye and timing and does not give a stuff about averages. He has decided, and I am sure that this has been encouraged by his captain and coaches, that he will just play the way that works best for him. It doesn’t always work but it has won the teams that he plays for many matches. He won the Wisden Test Performance of the year award and man of the match for his performance in the ICC Test Championship final. He was man of the match in the ODI world cup final. Any team would want him playing for them. I watched this IPL innings and it seems he is getting even better. He is great for cricket. He is great for Australian cricket.

'Unbelievable, special knock': Head smashes fourth fastest IPL century to help sink Kohli's RCB

If you listened to the pre season hype, particularly from within the Crows group, this lot was a premiership contender. It is always a worry when a club that has achieved very little for several years starts blowing it’s own trumpet like this.

'Suffering from paralysis-by-analysis': Adelaide Crows have gone from box office sensation to under-performing turkeys

Not a reserves player. A player for an SANFL club. Maybe regard the Crows SANFL team as their reserves but, with the exception of Port, that does not apply to the other teams. A rude wrong comment. Bloody hell Roar get it right or don’t bother.

AFL News: 'No credibility' - Freo slam ex-ump's 'spoilt brat' whack at Clark, Dees to challenge Pickett ban

As a neutral I enjoyed the game. Ferocious intent and commitment from all players. I felt sorry for Fremantle but their players made a mistake in remonstrating with the umpire. That took away any slight chance they had. Let’s face it though it was a very even contest and whoever lost would look at the errors they made. Harry’s goal square play on fumble perhaps the worst. Umpires make mistakes but players need to realise that mostly it is their mistakes that cost matches. And also it is only a game so ultimately it is not that important.

Footy Fix: No, the umpires didn't gift Carlton the game - but Freo sure did

Adelaide were abysmal. Nicks extension looks sillier and sillier by the week. Oh well my SANFL team won, and it was a miles better game. Go you Dogs.

Footy Fix: Freo's skipper is BACK - and he's making the Dockers' defence great again

Well I really don’t know why you think that Nicks had the hardest job in footy when covid struck but even if that was so no previous Crows coach, even ones like Sanderson or Pyke or Ayres, has been given this much leeway,. Yes the players seem to like him, and the team seems to sort of be on the improve, but his record surely did not warrant a two year extension one losing game into a season. If they fail this year, and hopefully they won’t, then there will be big questions asked about those that made this decision.

Footy Fix: The Crows played 2024's dumbest game against the AFL's smartest team - and it was ghastly

The Crows have been very tough on coaches in the, past getting rid of them when they haven’t made the finals for just a couple of years in row. Now they think that a bloke who took them to their first wooden spoon and is heading for the fifth year in a row outside the eight is worthy of a two year contract extension. Standards at Adelaide have been reset at a very low level.

Footy Fix: The Crows played 2024's dumbest game against the AFL's smartest team - and it was ghastly

Agreed, a bit. It is obviously tough being a star player and they do cop a lot of attention. But mate there were quite a few umpires out there and they didn’t see much wrong with his treatment. Many players cop this stuff and don’t react like that. If you care about examples set by people I suggest it is a very poor example for young players to respond to treatment lije this with a kick. A very dangerous action. As I said a suspended sentence at least sends a message.

Free Sicily: Hawks skipper cleared of kicking ban by Tribunal

Wrong decision IMO. Definitely reportable. Suspended sentence at the very least. A v good player who still can’t control himself.

It’s the Grand Final. Douggie Douglas (Dougs) is playing his 153rd and final match after a battling career spanning three clubs and 14 years. It is Douggie’s first, and only, shot at playing in an AFL premiership. He knew it was his last game. The Crows had saved his career. He owed them everything. Triple Brownlow and dual Norm Smith medalist Jaxon Bagshaw-Wanganeen had 28 disposals, and three amazing goals, in a dominant, extraordinary first half for The Power almost single handedly giving them a nine goal lead at the long break. Crows coach Kylie Cornes puts Dougs on to tag B-W instructing him to do whatever he can to stop him. In the first minute of the third quarter Dougs runs through Bagshaw-Wanganeen, whose head was characteristically over the ball. The collision silences the crowd. The unconscious player is stretchered from the ground. The Power lose all momentum and get overrun in the final quarter as the Crows win their first flag for fifty years. Dougs is a hero.

That, Matt, is why there should be a send off rule, and the offending player should not be able to be replaced.

Leigh Matthews is wrong - the AFL doesn't need a send-off rule, and introducing one would just make things messier

So what? Oh my gosh another team played better than us. Grow up.

Rejigged Aussie batting line-up fails again as top-order collapse puts Black Caps on track for drought-breaking Test win

New Zealand are a good team, with some very good, and at least one great, cricketer, playing at home. They were in the first test championship final. This whining pitiful over reaction from some people because, shock, horror, Australia might draw a series away from home is ridiculous.

Yes indeed. 0.5 I reckon.

Australia vs New Zealand Test series deserves greater fanfare than a March through autumn clash with footy codes

Got to say that I am sick and tired of Brendan Julian’s incessant criticism of Travis Head’s approach. He keeps saying that he is going too hard. Swinging at too much. Obviously he has been selected mate because that is what he does, and that is what the team wants him to do, oh, and yes, it works.

Totally agree Paul. When I was young here in SA it wasn’t even a public holiday. It really is only in the last thirty or so years that we seem to have turned the day into some sort of imitation of Independence Day. Over the top silliness.

Cricket can’t solve Australia Day conundrum - it’s not up to sports to make tough decisions for governments

Totally agree Benno. Instead of applauding Australia’s performance today on a tough pitch, instead of recognising their consistency, when it matters, during a very big year, we get this snide carping downplaying of achievements, and even individual performers. Joseph, Head, Hazlewood, the wonderful Windies attitude to the game, the great response from the crowd, hardly a mention. Not impressive stuff Roar.
