I agree. BEtter than leaving things as they are

At least there is some change and Cheika will have to work differently. I would like someone like Horan for 3rd selector but whoever it is, we can judge effectiveness by removal from 23 of Beale, Samu, Hannigan and TPN. Foley, Genia, Toomua and Folau should be challenged to perform and dropped from starting team also. Banks must be in the starting 15. He could make such an impact. I will be supporting the team 100 per cent and dreaming of a new world post Cheika

Cheika survives the axe as Rugby AU bring in Scott Johnson as director of rugby

This saga is so unbelievable, I thought it had made headline news here in UK. My English friend (who sits through Wallaby tests with me over here) texted to say,
`It’s just been announced. They’ve delayed the decision, it’s a joke, they need to be sacked, everyone is fed up with this circus`.
-Brexit/Cheika, take your pick!

Cheika survives Rugby Australia review - for now

Cheika has to go. Immediately it would make existing players have to consider their own attitude/motivation. I remain flabbergasted that Cheika himself is even prepared to stay. I mean, what possible whitewash submission could he deliver to RA to even justify a discussion. It’s a joke

Cheika must go, even if it means losing at the World Cup

Thanks Nick for article and some positivity. I was excited when Cheika was initially appointed due to his excellent record and focus on ‘ physicality’ but that hasn’t materialised. Poor selection hasn’t helped but, even with the right cattle, the physicality and intensity wasn’t there. Look at the comparison between our front row and Kyle Sinckler for England. He knows what he has to do and he cut Australia to ribbons in second half. Tupou has the same physical assets, give him a real go in the team and the game plan to assert himself.

All is not lost: Four quick fixes for the Wallabies forwards

Force Fan, I agree. While I have my concerns about the short term benefit of what will be a physically challenged competition, I think the long term benefits for Australian rugby are potentially huge.
I agree with all the comments of doom about RA/ Cheika -the facts speak for themselves but there are some green shoots from elsewhere ( not planned or deserved by RA, of course) that can keep rugby alive
1. GLobal Rapid Rugby, as mentioned.
There are non – rugby background people like me that can similarly be converted to rugby because it is a spectacular game, that is the fact. WA and Australia overall will benefit from increased brand awareness, sponsorship and possible a replacement for Super Rugby.
2. GRowth of international rugby
Rugby is really taking off, particularly in places like USA and Brazil. Inlike cricket, where 20-20 crowd increase has not translated into better test crowds, interest in 7s can and does sustain 15s and vice – versa. I spend as much time following Tier 2 and 3 rugby rather then tier 1( except wallabies still)
3. Wallabies as international brand.
It has been said previously, but it really is a plus. I still enjoy AFL but I can’t get the same buzz as the Wallabies identity , and actually , supporting all Aussie rugby teams including each Super Rugby team. AFL and RL will never have that, soccer does but will not translate into regular bigger crowds for clubs

Australian rugby can turn this corner, but only if it wants to

I don’t think we need the detail of the AAC/Beale incident. Let it go, it’s been dealt with and Castle’s response was what was needed. Sadly, Cheika and his team must go. I say `sadly` because he really does care and he’s down to earth but he’s now clearly misguided. As has been said, the results of the tour were predictable (close game in Wales, probably narrow loss, win in Italy while playing poorly then spanked by England). What I don’t get is why Cheika himself doesn’t resign -every target he set, every improvement he promised.. it’s not happened. I believe the players are there, there needs to be change now

To save the Wallabies, Clyne, Castle and Cheika must go

Thank you for article, JSJ. I think Twiggy and the GRR deserve our support. There are many West Australians like me who never had the chance to play rugby, in fact I didn’t even know the Wallabies existed until I saw a news piece in 1984 of the Grand Slam team. I still like AFL but rugby is now my sport of choice and there are many more like me and other potential converts. Personally, I think rolling subs is a bad idea and I worry about any attempt to reduce scrum power and forward play – that.’s what attracts me to rugby, but, get the competition going, who knows where it will end up

Why we must embrace Twiggy's rugby rules

I desperately want the Wallabies win on Saturday but I just can’t see it. I remember watching a documentary a couple of years ago about the 1984 grand slam side. I can’t remember the player interviewed but he said Alan Jones had built their confidence through a systematic analysis of why they would win; he had shown all areas were stronger than the opposition (Scotland, I think) -scrum, second row, back row, line out, breakdown, fly and scrum half, backline -and that, if even a close to potential performance, they would win – and they did.
Imagine doing that today for the Wallabies team facing England: scrum -parity at best, but beaten by Italy, second row -Coleman underpar, Rodda one good game, lineout -poor all year, Pooper and Dempsey – enough said, the rest is seriously undepar unless he plays as others have said -Toomua at 10, Kerevi at 12, AAC at 13 and there is some attacking the line. Beale and Foley should be dropped

Take the win, acknowledge the issues, gear up for England

I understand the’lose, lose’ argument but I think just playing well at last would bring something new and something to look forward to – it should be without Cheika, whatever happens. As an exile in England, I go to Cardiff every year to watch the Wallabies and believe me, watching the Game live last week was extremely depressing. a new coach needed, some new players and I bet the quality players not performing would have a new lease of life. I want Wallabies to win next two games regardless

Lose-lose for the Wallabies against the Azzurri
