Expansion to 14 teams in the AFLW has given the ferry too many passengers and unless they can find a bigger ferry (with 13 rounds) it may well capsize. But nevertheless, perhaps the men’s competition is different. I’m sure the AFL would do their sums first to see if 20 teams stacks up financially.

Where should the 20th AFL team be based?

If you have 20 teams then how “elite” is that going to be?
For a fair draw, where every team hosts every other team, you would only have 12 teams with 22 rounds. It’s possible by merging the Victorian teams into four.

Where should the 20th AFL team be based?

I’m not disagreeing with you. That is it’s likely the experienced AFLW players who are the ones holding out for more; whereas, the newbies I can imagine would be so enthusiastic to play no matter what.

AFLW players urged to reject new deal

It appears the AFLW is choking on its expansion to 14 teams.
Going back a few years there was controversy about why the need to tinker with a highly successful eight team structure. Now the original eight teams which pioneered the competition are the biggest losers if this competition does collapse, the sacrifices their players made will go up in smoke.

AFLW players urged to reject new deal

Except for the next few years it appears that Richmond will likely dominate because they have demonstrated that their talent is a level above their closest rivals. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t lose a game next year before winning their third premiership in four years. Perhaps four in five years.

The AFL's even millennium means more teams can hope for glory

Well said.

Richmond’s golden Pickett

Yes I can imagine GWS would be needing such advice after such a mauling.
The Tigers showed no mercy, I mean surely they could have eased up a little in the last quarter when the game was won? Be a little charitable and let GWS kick another one or two goals, this would have been more sportsman like.

Kane Cornes gives the Giants some advice on how to deal with GF humiliation

Another South Fremantle player who seems to have been overlooked by the Freo Dockers! How embarrassing for the Fremantle Football Club that they miss these opportunities and then have to offer top dollar to entice these players back to WA.

Richmond’s golden Pickett

I’m tipping the Tigers to win by exactly 89 points.

Tips and thoughts: AFL grand final

Perhaps Kane Cornes doesn’t have a rewind function on his HD television.

'An absolute witch hunt': Kane Cornes defends Toby Greene

My preference would be for Australian musicians to perform at the AFL Grand Final because whenever you get these overseas artists, they come here without any appreciation or respect for the game. They’ve got no idea about the rules of the game and wouldn’t even know the team names.

NRL out-entertains the AFL yet again

Well said Marnie, I agree with you completely. I feel sorry for the sponsors, the television broadcasters and actually, the clowns who participated because all they did was embarrass themselves. I knew it was going to be a comical exhibition once I turned my television on and saw the AFLX format.

The EJ Whitten game makes a mockery of a legend

I’ve been away for a few weeks and would need to view the video again which I can’t since it says above that the video has expired. But from what I can remember, I don’t think Riewoldt needed to do that because it didn’t leverage him any higher to take the mark.

'Have some common sense': Damien Hardwick blasts the 'Toby Greene rule'

Yes we really do need to keep this out of the game.
Traditionally if a player wants to take a speckie you ride the player in with a knee in the back, this is the way its always been. Unlike a boot, there obviously are no studs protruding from one’s knee thankfully.

'You are joking!': Jack Riewoldt furious after being pinged under 'the Toby Greene rule'

I don’t think Hardwick would have expected the AFL to change the interpretation of the studs rule. I would have thought his criticism of the rule was merely to give some comfort and support to his player. There wasn’t any need for the AFL to take a knee-jerk reaction. The stud rule is a sensible rule which should stay as is.

'Have some common sense': Damien Hardwick blasts the 'Toby Greene rule'

If it happens, would they sacrifice one of their matches at the Giants Stadium or would it be one of their three Canberra matches, which supporters are they going to disappoint? It would need some promotion over there. I would put some full page adverts in the Los Angeles Times newspaper. But I agree it needs to be the “real thing” to be authentic, a match for premiership points just preceding the bye round.

GWS plans for US game moving forward

Aron, I was actually at the Giants Stadium that Saturday and I don’t doubt the attendance figure of 7,581. It seemed about right to me.

GWS are tearing up the AFL, so where are the fans?

Let’s put this match into perspective, it’s only one game out of 198 games played out during the season, excluding the finals. And so every year this single match seems to create a whole lot of hoo-ha about nothing.

Why the AFL's China venture misses the point

Gold Coast supporters don’t travel as much as other clubs’ supporters; perhaps only about twenty of them.

Secondly, the TV camera is not ideally located to scan all the spectators from behind and above, in the first tier of the grandstand. I’d say the crowd figure might have been close to accurate.

Why the AFL's China venture misses the point

Apparently there was a host of controversial umpiring decisions late in the game and so really no one should have booed Pendlebury, rather the booing should have been directed at the umpires. It’s of no fault of the players what decisions are made by umpires.

Nathan Buckley whacks Essendon fans after Pies skipper takes medal honours

I agree the impact was low, I mean really it just seemed like Dusty Martin was merely swatting a fly on Adam Kennedy’s ear. Nothing more than that.

AFL Tribunal reduces Dustin Martin's suspension

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more players choosing to wear a helmet during play. The pace of the game is faster than it ever has been because rule changes.

Eight talking points from AFL Round 3

The Kangaroos and Melbourne should feel unlucky that less deserving teams are taking their spots in the semifinals. This is an issue of integrity.
Perhaps the ATLW needs revert back to an eight team competition for next year; especially when you only have a two-month window.

Ellie Blackburn throws support behind controversial AFLW conference system

Incredible bounce and am wondering if there might have been a rock hidden in the grass to give extra impetus.

Insane 70-metre worm-burner makes an absolute fool out of everyone

Perth has a large immigrant population similar to western Sydney. Over here on the nightly TV news, there’s so much soccer news about the English Premier League and the A-League. I doubt anyone has done any research, other than the population per capita figure.

There’s an exhibition match this year with Manchester United playing at Optus Stadium and so frankly my hunch is that there wouldn’t be enough support for the third team in Perth.
