If you want equality – then fantastic. Let’s lengthen the season, pay the players properly and have the same length of suspension etc.
What you are arguing for, as I pointed out about may quantitatively equal, but not qualitatively so.
Your argument with a male player that had been out for half a season is completely irrelevant and misses the point completely.

Sorry Jacko, how is it equal when the men’s season runs for 24 weeks and the women’s season runs for 6 weeks?
It might be quantifiably the same, but qualitatively it is completely different.
Given that fines are also comparable to salaries, I suppose the women should also be fined as much as the men despite being paid 1/40th of the wage?

Ken, if you think the current Wallabies have the same recognition in the Australian public as the players from a decade ago you are mistaken.
It’s one thing to cater to fans of your sport, but a completely different thing to market to general sports fans who may take an interest.
A decade ago rugby union was in the same tier as rugby league, cricket and AFL when it came to the hearts and minds of Aussie sporting fans.
It is simply not the case anymore and me writing so is not about a code war. It’s cold hard facts.

You realise Jacko that I am a mere fan too? I may write, but this is a side passion that I do away from a full time job.
So if you want that data, please dig it up and find it and enlighten us all. I’m not particularly interested in the last year given that I’ve said that big strides have been made – go back over the last decade and tell me how many Tests the Wallaroos have played. You might also want to go back and look at the results from their last World Cup campaign and how much they improved over the course of the Tournament – quite incredible what getting the chance to play together over a short sustained period can do.
If you aren’t interested at an international level given the lack of matches the Australian Jillaroos have had, then compare the Super W to the NRLW – most of the players that play in this competition are not getting paid. It’s just not ok and I do not see the pressure to make change in this space.

My references in the opening paragraphs were about the men and I absolutely stand by them.
There is no longer the recognition ruby had with players like John Eales and George Gregan. I don’t think there is any problem in referencing that…

David, for avid fans of any sport they will of course seek out coverage.
I’m talking about being a general fan of sport who scrolls social media etc – there is very little about rugby.
NRL players feature in advertisements, so do our cricketers – our rugby players do not anymore.
There is a difference between seeking out content and being exposed to it. Or perhaps I should point to the billboards of the Waratahs on Victoria Road as success? At least it is a step in the right direction.

Greysy, again I want to know for how long the Wallaroos have been paid the small amounts they are paid. Their lack of Test matches in the last 5 years also speaks volumes.
7s is in a completely different bucket, but as mentioned it must surely be of interest to you why players like Pelite and Tonegato would leave a program considered full time professional to play in a competition that is not.

I’m sure it isn’t intentional Hugh, but it is the situation we find ourselves in and for me, it’s concerning when 10 years ago Rugby Union would have been discussed in the same conversations as Rugby League, Cricket and the AFL. It’s not in that tier anymore.

Greysy, I’ll absolutely agree that RA has done a superb job with the Rugby 7s program, but absolutely disagree with the Wallaroos point. Strides have been made in the last year, but to have most Super W players completely uncompensated and the Wallaroos playing 1-2 Tests a year doesn’t sound like flying the flag when it comes to women’s sport.

This all assumes that the Cowboys/Penrith/Tigers put in a bid in that initial year. I don’t think that’s the case and to be honest, I don’t think any of those teams have ever put in bids (although that will likely change in the next few weeks).
The teams that initially missed out were the Sharks and Souths.

Fair enough. But I think it is a little more than just vision given these quotes last week:
“The reason I want to go to 10 teams next year is because there will be four clubs applying for the two spots, so why not just give them all four.
“Why have two clubs miss out if they feel they can field a team?
“There’s an argument that the depth of players isn’t there and you may injure women if they’re not to the same standard but I think with the two state authorities running their competitions, I think there probably is enough players.
“There are a number of women’s teams in the New South Wales and Queensland Cup, so there are a lot of women who are playing the game.”
My concern is that we are suddenly moving to a more rapid pace and I worry whether the talent is there to support it.

Cadafel, I have no idea… but at this stage I would not hold your breath for a full home and away season as that would require the players to be paid significantly more.
