Mary, by far the best year for women in sport. Sadly however 2016 is the year that women and para sport took a huge step backwards. This is where I disagree with you and in particular your reference to Maddison Elliott and Kate McLoughlin. Aus Paralympics, in conjunction with Aus Swimming are involved in matchfixing, non betting matchfixing. You cited the ‘achievements’ of Maddison Elliott, are you aware of her classification history? I’m sure Kate McLoughlin, General Manager for Paralympic Performance will be all too aware. And Lakeisha Patterson, another standout medal winner, her classification history and unbelievable (literally) list of impairments will take your breath away but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. There is absolutely no excuse for this despicable cheating. Staff have a whistleblowers line to report fraud. Patterson & Elliott alone cost the tax payer $34k per annum. Without them (and noteable others), Aus Paralympics would have fallen well short of a top
5 finish. But you don’t need to know all the facts to make your top ten do you? Enough is enough. But let’s do what we do best Mary and make sure McLoughlin is awarded one of the highest leadership accolades in sport. Aus Sport Cover up at its best, shame when women were becoming credible.

2016 was an incredible year for women in sport
