Dr Disnick -they do. Transparency is all important. Announce the factors that wil be behind the decision – their contingency plans and the rationale behind their finals setup and whichever state wins the right. To simply say nothing is not good management at all.

The AFL's grand final venue choice might decide the premiership - just like any other year

They have some talent the Suns, and Rankine has been just the spark they needed after Rowell’s injury. But as good as he has been, Rowell was playing at another level altogether. Very unlucky.

The 2020 Rising Star is already decided

Agree that QLD and the Gabba deserve the honour. Whatever the choice the AFL need to announce their plans – the where, when, and why – asap.

I agree that the afl generally just need to properly adjudicate the existing rules, but in your argument against interchange rules you seem to forget the long time existing rule and prefer the recent one. go back to a sub bench. it will reduce the swarm – if players have fatigue to consider they can cover less ground over the course of a game. it will generate more one-one-one battles rather than a group of players at every contest. the four player interchange has changed the game more than any other rule change in the past generation.

How to decongest the AFL

Two games of the six the Saints have stopped playing after amassing a dominant six goal lead.
That they pulled back a nineteen point decifict in a few minutes showed it was purely mental, but a needlessly rash boot by their captain brought them undone. They are crying out for a mature onfield leader who can steady the ship when it’s listing. Should be five and one, and set up for finals. Instead they are were they deserve to be. Hopefully we see a number changes of changes this week, as all those who took an early breather on saturday should be given an even longer break.

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 6

“Most of the current top-eight clubs have only played one of last year’s finalists except for GWS, who have played three and Bulldogs with two.”
St Kilda says hello?

AFL top 100: The season so far

The bold prediction would have been for the Crows to keep their unbeaten record against the Suns – so poor is their form. The other two predictions are certainly possible, but i would add another upset – the Saints to be too manic for Collingwood to handle.

Three bold predictions for Round 3

What a game? If that was what was served up by two of the best, it’s going to be a long weekend.

AFL top 100: Collingwood vs Richmond

There’s a good chance none of sinclair, webster and savage will be in our best twenty two. Looking at fan sites none of them feature much as there are better options. savage would be unlucky but we need to develop the likes of long, clarke, and coffield in his position.
Marshall is most definitely in our best five, if not our best. Our one shining light in years of drafting. We need the recruits from 2013-17 to go up a gear – dunstan, gresham, lonie, billings, clark, battle, and coffield. We need carlisle to play like he means it, hannebury to stay fit, hunter to keep improving, and king to come on quickly. Can’t see all the pieces falling into place this season though, but there’s some promise ahead in langlands, patton and bytel. I’m hoping we can finish top ten, but expecting we’ll fall a fair bit shy of that.

Each club's state of affairs before the AFL restart: Part 5

i actually think that anything prior to and post 1966 is irrelevant when talking premierships. there is only one. it stands high above the shoulders of all others!

The ten greatest VFL/AFL dynasties

Not that impressed with our trading over the last period. Nor with our choice of coach.
Losing Steven was understandable – but they should have let him go the previous year when he had currency. Now we’re paying him to play elsewhere and received steak knives for him.
Bruce is a big loss, and has upset our structure. We have no readily available chf. Acres was a disappointment. A lot of potential but we only saw occassional glimpses. And the ins? Howard could be very good, but we thought the same about Logan. Ryder a total waste. A backup ruck who cannot play a competitive forward role, and with shortened games now unlikely we will see him at all. Bruce was a far better option as a forward/backup ruck. Jones is just a B grade mid. Butler as well, and we have plenty of B grade small forwards already. The marquee trade in Hill was a positive at least, but we had a better mid two years ago in Steven, and it showed one A grader doesn’t make a team competitive.
Hopefully King will live up to the hype, but needs time, I’m also wondering if we chose the wrong brother.
Ratten? Players like him, they liked Richo as well. They’re young and don’t have the experience of playing under a good coach. From all i have heard from him, it’s simply carrying on from Richo, and the final games last year and then the game against North indeed showed exactly that. We needed someone fresh. He’s obviously expected to see instant results, hence trading for the here and now. Time will tell, but i’m not confident.

Four burning questions for St Kilda ahead of the AFL restart

Port won the right to wear their prison bars very early on in the afl

The problem with Collingwood’s jumper debate

so collingwood have no right to the magpie name then – they were originally the flatties. there was a south aussie colonial club called the magpies before collingwood adopted it.

Eddie McGuire is seething that Port Adelaide wants to wear the prison bars

The Saints lost all their head to heads? They played the Dogs once all year, in rnd 13. It was from rnd 16 that the Saints clicked and won 10 in a row. The Saints curse then hit, losing both ruckmen before the grand final, Winmar’s father died the night before the game, then Harvey breaks a rib in the first minutes of the game. Adelaide were better on the day, and it seemed destined, but the Saints were the best team that year. The Dogs fell away after leading the ladder from rounds 10 to 14, and didn’t even make the big dance despite a prelim at home. Rose coloured glasses perhaps?

When was your team the undisputed best in the AFL? Part 2

I’m sorry but it would appear you have somehow forgotten arguably the greatest player in afl history. Then there is also the strange omission of triple brownlow medalist Ian Stewart in your preamble list. Nathan Burke, as good as he was, would struggle to appear in the top ten of Saints greats.

AFL top 100: The Champions of St Kilda

I think Cousins off field reputation has unfairly muddied just how good he actually was on the park. Certainly a better player than Cotchin and Crawford, and I was a big fan of Crawf.

The AFL all-time great alphabet teams: Letter C

Nice team. A bit weak in the back and forward line but what can you do?

The AFL all-time great alphabet teams: Letter B

Read a number of reasons as to why she wasn’t to blame, yet to read what she actually did for rugby australia that was actually merit worthy. heck if her ‘finest achievement’ is an untested coaching team, why should she stay? the ship is stranded and full of holes, she has failed to patch them, and quite a number more have opened up since she’s been there. the crew and former captains see her ineptness, heck so can most of the passengers, but some think she’s doing a good job?

Australian rugby has its problems, but Raelene Castle was not one of them

Ascringe I raise a finger to a certain Hopoate, as a disgrace I would inject for the Essendon defiance and denial.

The ten most cringe-worthy moments in Australian sport

haha, no on the old one – i thought the list too recent 🙂

Australia’s ten most inspirational sporting moments

Just to many for any to agree on, but a little Sydney centric (no i’m not a victorian) and age centric

Just some that come to mind…
Wallabies win in 91 or 99
Lavers return grand slam,
Barry Breens point (certainly eclipses Barry’s mark as a historical moment)
Phar Laps Melbourne Cup, (or the Agua Caliente), and Makybe’s third.
Bradman’s last ball
Fraser’s triple golds
Gould and Cuthberts triple gold in one olympics
Bradbury of course
Lionel Rose 68
Melbourne 56
Cliff Young had the whole nation entranced
Shane Warne’s miracle ball
Wayne Gardner’s win at Philip Island 89
Harding’s last round ko of Andries.
and on and on.

Australia’s ten most inspirational sporting moments

Typical of the Saints curse. So close to back to back flags and both games simply a toss of the coin against two of the greatest premiers in history. All three teams would have crushed about 90% of past and future premiers.

Ben Cousins and the logistics of his failed move to the Saints

Ah the seventies. As a very young lad growin up in alice springs, watching match of the day and supporting a team i thought were called ‘majesty united’. wondered on year why they were no longer on tv, then the next year there they were again! Listening to bbc sports roundup every Sunday to get results and buying english soccer magazines every week. FAcup final live on radio – that 79 final hurt. i was still running around the house screaming after the equaliser when my brother came running up gloating (bloody liverpool supporter still hurting after 77). Great memories despite United’s long league drought and Liverpool winning almost everything. No doubt their huge support here stems from that era.
i played a fair bit too. met johnny warren when he came to conduct a training session late seventies and was lucky enough to tour Holland and England with an underage indoor team and visit Old Trafford in the mid 80s. Good times.

How the 1970s made me a football tragic

Agree on all, bar a brisbane win. The Suns are an obvious pick if looking at an upset to get ahead of the tipping herd. worth the punt.

AFL Round 1 at a glance

you’re just stirring for fun obviously. name one player who played 22 elite games.
