Well this all got very political very quickly!
Given the levels of automation in modern coal mines, there are more jobs that can be created in renewables (solar, wind, cryo storage etc.) in both construction and maintenance than coal.
Otherwise, looking forward to the start of the new season, though tbh I might spend more time watching community rugby than SR this year.

Who thought that bushfire and rugby seasons would ever collide?

Jeez. So this guys cops a 4 week ban but Mafi, who literally kidnapped and belted the crap out of a team mate is allowed to play in the RWC. 😱

Highlanders lock banned after conviction

I guess that depends upon your definition of old doesn’t it?

Too right Richie! World Rugby need to get a grip on time-sucking scrums

But its probably worth noting that scrums pack a lot lower these days that they did in the amateur era so where perhaps more inherently stable – feet directly under the prop’s hips rather than the extension we see today.
Maybe a return to more upright stance at the scrum to allow a quicker engage? Might make it easier for the hooker to hook for the ball too … cleaner ball, faster game all round.
Easy for me to say having never been in a competitive scrum in my life.
My 2c

I ditched Foxtel (the set top box approach) and moved to streaming. tried both Foxtel & Kayo – which is part owned by Foxtel btw. Both are OK, but if I want to watch Gallagher Premiership at this time of year they don’t seem to have all the games on playback.
Last couple of seasons, due to family commitments I went along to about 3/4 of Rebels home games but I went along to watch Dewar shield matches pretty much every week of the season, which didn’t cost me $200 in tickets and food. Watching live at the ground even if its a poor standard isn’t that bad especially given how badly the Rebels finished their season.

Foxtel versus rugby: The next battle

No-one will turn up to watch a Brumbies/Rebels team. Who is going to pay a membership to watch 4 home games a season? If you think SR in Aus can only support three franchises then by all means axe the Rebels but please stop with this unworkable narrative.

Foxtel versus rugby: The next battle

Kayo is part owned by Foxtel – just saying.

Foxtel versus rugby: The next battle

The same Scotland that have never progressed beyond the QFs in the RWC during the professional era and last made the SF in 1991.
You can equally point to the fact that since forever, the Wallabies have played the Boks and the AB’s twice each season. That’s up against two teams that have won the last four RWCs.

Why everyone got it wrong about Rugby Australia and Israel Folau

Yes they did and fair play to Japan, though there is an argument that the Irish, poor going into the RWC after an outstanding previous two years, were undone by the heat and humidity as much by the Japanese team. Make no mistake I was furiously cheering Japan.
But Scotland have been woeful for years and got well beaten in conditions that were much more to their liking.

Why everyone got it wrong about Rugby Australia and Israel Folau

Thank you for clarifying that! My bad.

Why everyone got it wrong about Rugby Australia and Israel Folau

Interesting and articulate as always Geoff. Perhaps you should have a word with your editor who, only yesterday was hammering castle as needing to be sacked? 😁

Why everyone got it wrong about Rugby Australia and Israel Folau

Scotland actually got fined for bringing the game into disrepute with the threats and still got thrashed by Japan. 😁

Doubtless the fact the number is attributed to the outgoing Chairman will cause some people to doubt its veracity, but there we go.

Raelene Castle's tenure has been a failure – what else did RA expect?

So this is what passes for an editorial at the Roar? 😱

Castle was appointed from a field of over 200 candidates. Anyone who has spent any time in the commercial sector knows that a new CEO, implementing a new strategy takes at least three years to take effect. Given the self serving interests of every state union in this country, getting consensus will take time. Changing the CEO will simply put the whole process back three or more years.

Raelene Castle's tenure has been a failure – what else did RA expect?

It was and is their responsibility because they have accepted that responsibility as the governing body in Australia and publicly stated it as such. It is every rugby player / coach / official / supporter’s responsibility to abide by the code of conduct.

I don’t need a poll of supporters world wide to see pretty much every major Union disavows discrimination worldwide. Unless you are making the claim that the Unions act in a fashion that is not aligned with the values of most of their members?

Are you asking me for proof Folau’s odious views caused self harm or that people of indigenous demographics have higher self harm rates? Because if its the latter I can provide you with any number of third party sources.

Neither of us is going to win this discussion, so we can agree to differ.

Rugby Australia CEO on Folau: 'We didn't get it wrong'

Well to be fair, Sevu Reece slapped his girlfriend around, lost a contract with Connacht, picked one up with the Crusaders and then played in the RWC for the AB’s.
Amanaki Mafi kidnapped and beat up Lopeti Timani yet still played in the RWC.
What does that say about the standards set by NZ & Japanese Unions?
Should someone get a second chance if they show remorse and how far is too far?

The last column about Israel Folau ever, I promise

I am not asking a sporting body to do anything. They are choosing to do this at their own cost because Rugby supporters world wide believe inclusivity is the right thing to do.
Kids conflicted about their sexuality, particularly Islander kids, self harm at a higher rate. That is a fact. That they do not sign a note saying “Folau made me do it” is irrelevant.
People’s freedom of speech ends where it impacts on others. If you want a free for all in terms of condemnation that is your choice. It is not one I will support and I suspect, neither will most reasonable minded people.

Rugby Australia CEO on Folau: 'We didn't get it wrong'

How is it ridiculous?
RA Code of Conduct: –
Part 2 Section 1.3.
Treat everyone equally, fairly and with dignity regardless of gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, cultural or religious background, age or disability. Any form of bullying, harassment or discrimination has no place in Rugby.
Part 2 Section 1.7.
Use Social Media appropriately. By all means share your positive experiences of Rugby but do not use Social Media as a means to breach any of the expectations and requirements of you as a player contained in this Code or in any Union, club or competition rules and regulations.
There are almost identically worded sections for coaches, match officials, game managers, spectators and parents. Its pretty much the same everywhere in Rugby Union and many other sports have similar clauses for inclusivity.

Rugby Australia CEO on Folau: 'We didn't get it wrong'

That’s false equivalence. The Folau case was widely covered in all mainstream media.

Rugby Australia CEO on Folau: 'We didn't get it wrong'

It is exactly their responsibility! Vilification is against the code of conduct every player / coach / official must agree to before participating in Union in this country.
Given the incidence of self harm amongst Islander kids is 4x higher than other demographics and higher still amongst those conflicted about their sexuality, being vilified by someone many in that group look to for leadership, it is entirely right RA came down hard on this.
Furthermore there are plenty of examples of kids in Islander communities that first and foremost play Union over any other sport.

Rugby Australia CEO on Folau: 'We didn't get it wrong'

I’m not religious but perhaps more indifferent than atheist. However I was raised with Christian values which I apply to all … i.e. treat people as you would want them to treat you.

Folau’s hypocrisy has become embarrassing

I think it was $2M and more than likely the ACL will keep that.

Rugby AU and Israel Folau settle legal dispute

Yes, but you could equally make the argument that paying Folau’s costs plus any arbitrary figure, say $2M, to go away and not overshadow RA’s appointment of a new coaching team.
Difficult to see how Folau won unless he has been reinstated in the Warratahs and the Wallabies. Since he professional sporting career is probably over in all codes in all countries, I’d say he lost big time.
Just my 2c.

Rugby AU and Israel Folau settle legal dispute

Anyone even considering it would need the most watertight contract imaginable and possibly a track record of hiring dropkicks … so London Irish then.

Rugby AU and Israel Folau settle legal dispute

This is pure speculation.
