RA paid him big buck in the mistaken belief that he would be as good as his word and not repeat the same stupid claims on social media.
As for RA going broke, just exactly would that help the sport in this country? And whilst you might not care about that, what about the hundreds of thousands who turn out every week for their respective clubs who would would be impacted by the demise of the sport’s governing body?
Perhaps you think that we could magically create another board from somewhere? Despite everything, the national team makes money for the sport and draws in sponsors. Much of that cash goes to the state unions and whilst there is huge opportunity for improvement on how and where it is spent, bankrupting the RA is in not in the interest of genuine rugby supporters.

Folau’s hypocrisy has become embarrassing

Best player is a bit of a broad claim.
Best under the high ball certainly and pretty good in the back three but that’s it. In my humble opinion he’d have been crap in the front row. 😛

Folau’s hypocrisy has become embarrassing

“We seem to have entered an era where a misguided idea of freedom of speech and free religious expression have usurped more important things, such as not being a dropkick.”
– Possibly the best ever opening line of an article! 😂

Folau’s hypocrisy has become embarrassing

😂 I read this as ” Apart from two Silks …” and thought you were referring to his legal team. I clearly need new glasses.

David Pocock bemused by Israel Folau's captaincy claim

Agreed EFF. As I’ve said many times, let the rich NH clubs pick up the bill for the top players, at least in the short term, and invest in grass roots to increase the talent pool in Aus.
The success of the Perth Bledisloe test this year and hopefully the Melbourne Bledisloe should help fill the RA’s coffers.
As for SR, personally I think its a dead duck. Given the upheaval around TV rights (Foxtel vs Optus) maybe this is the right time to dissolve that comp and focus on an entirely (predominantly) tribal Australian comp.
My 2c.

Why the Giteau Law has to be fit for purpose in 2020

No issue from me Perthsayer. 60,000 in Perth was a great result and one that RA should look to repeat.

Melbourne to host 2020 Bledisloe Cup clash as part of Wallaroos double-header

I wondered about the capacity of both grounds and the suitability of the oval configuration for Rugby but then discovered that Marvel can be configured to a rectangular form, but that this reduce the capacity to 47,000.
Nonetheless, that’s 15,000 more than AAMI Park and assuming a sell out crowd – plenty of AB’s supporters in Melbourne – should create a nice financial windfall for Australian Rugby.

Should Clyne step down sooner? Probably. But to highlight a “galaxy” of former Wallabies and coaches, all of whom learnt their trade in the amateur era is hardly an argument for anything.

Rugby is facing a civil war unless Cameron Clyne goes now

I believe SR is finished as a product, once the competition reverts to a simple ladder approach the Kiwi’s will dominate even more than at present and gates will decline still further.

I believe we need an exclusively Australian competition to drive the tribalism back into the sport in the same way that it exists in AFL, NRL and the Gallagher Premiership.

Scarp or significantly reduce the Giteau Law qualification caveats and pick the best available Wallabies team from wherever they are in the world for the next RWC cycle. Let the big NH club backers pick up the salary bill for some of our top players and move the savings into developing the U20s and beyond.

Build a bridge – post Cameron Clyne – with Andrew Forrest and learn from GRR . Maybe even find a way to merge or co-exist GRR and NRC as an Australian league … or build something above that level if necessary.

Negotiate a new TV broadcast deal with FTA. Even if it is significantly less than Foxtel pays, the reduced salary bill plus greater TV exposure of the code will surely bring benefits.

With Clyne stepping down, maybe invite Forrest to become RA chairman or at least suggest he nominate a candidate.

If Rennie can his new coaching team can deliver some wins through a new approach, the fans will return and with that, the revenue but at present, RA is too broke to try to keep top layers here with the ‘lure of the jersey’.

We have an exiting new coaching deal being built hat has already expressed confidence in the alignment between Castle and Johnson but we need more.

Ramblings over … I’m off to find a beer.

Don’t give Giteau’s Law the boot

“Australian rugby needs them filling stadiums for their Super Rugby teams.”
Very laudable except they are not filling stadiums. SR crowds are down everywhere.

SR will continue to run at a loss, but the Wallabies has the potential to drive revenue. But first they have to be winning.

Its not black and white but is there is an argument for NH clubs to pick up the salaries for Wallabies whilst RA spends its money on local development squads bringing through the current and future U20 crop.

My 2c.

Don’t give Giteau’s Law the boot

You’d like to think there are performance criteria but given how badly RA stuffed up with Folau’s contract one wonders. Plus the performance criteria might just be “do better than Chek …” 😛

Dave Rennie inks deal to become next Wallabies coach

Steady on smoothy. Rennie is scheduled to start until about June 2020 and TRC is about a month later. If he managed to facilitate such a change in Wallabies fortunes in such a short window then he would indeed be a miracle worker.

“Johnson has become Rugby Tsar.” Isn’t that literally his job as Director of Rugby?

Didn’t Schmidt say he wasn’t available and is staying close to London because of his son’s medical needs and access to specialists?

Sure, after all its not as if Los Pumas play attractive and entertaining rugby is it? And if travel is such an issue why not kick out the Boks while we are at it. They could play in the 6N at Italy’s expense and be in the same timezone. 😱
Of course Japan’s economy doesn’t actually support A/NZ rugby per se, they – like the top English and French sides – just poach our best players.

When will Japan join the Rugby Championship?

TBH I think you are over complicating it. I don’t think we can say he has mental health issues more just not very bright and in thrall to a manipulative father that is running a cult for personal gain.

Israel Folau links bushfire crisis and drought to same-sex marriage and abortion

Yep, since the impact is a function of Impulse i.e. Mass * Acceleration and the acceleration of two bodies colliding and coming to a complete stop will be the same, a 100kg player will create 43% more impulse … assuming I’m remembering my physics from 40+ years ago correctly. 😱

Don't go changing rugby union's laws

True but there is a limit to the highest speed a human can achieve and the thinking is along the lines that if players have to play 80 minutes they tire and their speed drops.
As Soapit points out, impulse is a product of mass by change in velocity i.e. deceleration in this case.
I think we need to see changes around the ruck given that many injuries happen to the jackling player sticking their head into the path of an incoming player hell bend on the clean out. Of course that would suggest a return to more traditional rucking but that is unlikely to happen.
In terms of numbers on the bench, remember that years ago if a player left the field injured they were not replaced so teams played 15 on 14. The modern scrum, played low to the ground with an emphasis on the drive is relatively modern hence the need for specially trained front rows.
The Laws have evolved but they are still a legacy from a game invented in the amateur era with physically smaller and less fit players. Ultimately something has to give, the Laws, the bench, the players …
Either way, its still the best game in he world! 😁

Don't go changing rugby union's laws

Whatever floats your boat. 😂

Don't go changing rugby union's laws

Guscott’s motives aside, plenty of people have been calling for a reduction in the number of substitutes permitted. Part of the reasoning being to fore players to play 80 minutes and therefore have to lose bulk thus reducing the risks for concussion at the breakdown arising from two 110 kg plus players smashing into one another.
As for long range penalties, maybe the trick is to subtly change the texturing of the ball or shape to make it fly less distance? A similar idea was suggested to may tennis balls more fluffy to mitigate new racquet technology and the dominance of the ‘big serve’. There’s plenty that can be done without changing the Laws of the game.

Don't go changing rugby union's laws

Anything in the Daily Mail can’t be taken seriously.
However, since Exeter are the only premiership club to make a profit, maybe the other clubs have something to hide?

Rennie a good man as Wallabies coaching job becomes a seller’s market

Technically if the North Atlantic thermohaline circulation fails due to global warming, England will end up more like Iceland. 😂

Collective failure of the Six Nations

If Gatland was coaching them they’d still only manage a draw.

Collective failure of the Six Nations

Well, bearing in mind Wessels had what was basically a Wallabies back line last season and a decent (by current Aussie SR standards) pack he didn’t do much in the latter stages of last SR season when it counted. Rebels lost their last two games 7-125 if memory serves.
Mind you, if we want to be that radical and take the view that Wessels could develop into a top international coach, why not help him by scrapping the Giteau rule and letting him pick players from anywhere in the world?

It's time to go all out for Eddie as Wallabies coach

Add the two penalties and the dropped goal that went wide (admittedly one from 55m out) and it could have been 42-0. 😱

Got to the 79th minute and I was telling my eldest son not to jinx it by calling the game for England with a 12 point lead. I reckon that says more about my fragile state of mind than anything.

Rewatched the game the following day – way better use of my time than watching Wales and the Boks flog it out – and what struck me was just how little in the way of chances the AB’s actually created. Not a single kickable penalty and bundled into touch every time the attacked out wide.

I don’t doubt the AB’s will come back stronger next season but this was an amazing match with so much sense of tension. 👍
