Wallabies record second draw of the year as Argentina clash ends all square

Very enjoyable article WAE. Have a question, do you see any skills or techniques in Aussie Rules that could be utilised in rugby but havnt yet? Union had a lot of crossover ,defense wise with rugby league and at present we can see teams presenting very robust defensive lines and dominant tackles.

Running rugby: not in my name!

Years ago in the Graham Henry era after the Springboks had shut the Abs out in similar fashion to what the pumas just have, on the return match in SA the Abs gave byron kellher, free rein to snipe metres up the middle in search of momentum but more specifically brought Leon Mcdonald up from fullback to attack the ruck.

He may be starting for his (dummy) running game as the wallabies seek to find holes in the defensive line that the Abs couldn’t. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rennie will search for holes close to the ruck with korobete and banks by drawing the impressive puma loose forwards wider denying them ball and dominant tackles.

Gordon does have a running game close to the ruck or down the blind, not a bad option later in the game, if the ball from the ruck is slowed the half backs delivery speed is nullified anyhow.

What’s the strategy in having Tom sanders playing domestic? He performed strong /dominantly In the trial Nkrth/South match but has been neglected. The investment and faith in the systems and infrastructure nz rugby is on the stage for review.

Door open for Australia after Pumas put All Blacks to the sword

The Argentine forwards and enforcers established the spirit and mentality of the exchanges early on in proceedings. Have the All blacks considered not performing the haka? It might not be inappropriate in the other age groups or school rugby international wise. The Argentinians dominated the forward and ruck exchanges and the New Zealand forwards had no never provided any sign that they would gain ascendancy. The Abs should continue blooding players but with the inexperience and new coaching team assembled the nz fans will be wondering what happens now?

Argentina remind us why we love rugby

The All Blacks did some nice long skip passes wide from the ruck so that they could get smashed by two or three pumas, behind the game line, form a new ruck, rince and repeat. Nice passes though.

Foster would would make a great addition to the aussie coaching team and compliment Rennie well!

There's no way around it anymore – Ian Foster must go

He was there before the 6 million bucks though. He is not a huge 7 but I’m not convinced he is not an international class 7. He hasn’t been playing in the strongest era for Aus rugby but very really doesn’t give his all. Can so many coaches and selectors have picked him if he was so bad?

So who should play ten for Australia?

The Abs player stocks are low in terms of Premier contests. Ian Foster is probably up against it, but he has exposed a lot of new players too international footy and can now see where impressive super rugby capability meets its limits in the intensity of test match rugby. Selections are always going to be critiqued, but with losses and shortcomings exposed the critiques, hopefully will be enacted upon. Hard ass, not so flashy forwards anyone?

He’s going OK under Rennie and his stats and performance in the bledisloe Cup wouldn’t be too shabby. Hooper contributes what every rugby team requires…. Look at his face (no botox). Hooper is short for a seven but far from a drag on any team he plays for.

Sanchez is a ten, slipper, Arnold and Simmons are forwards.. But your point stands taking into account forwards have a different prime to a fly half.

Pumas beat All Blacks for the first time

That wouldn’t send a great signal to all the up and coming tens in the wider squad if it was a lucrative contract, but OK he spent some time in Auckland and they have produced a few good 10s
