The precedent is already set when they let more than a dozen similar tackles go unpunished. Billy shouldn’t get off because of sentimental value. He should get off because nobody else even gets charged for this. He should get off because his right hand is the first point of contact on Feki, not the shoulder. He should get off because Feki raises his forearm before contact, making it incredibly difficult for slater to make a conventional tackle without getting an elbow to the neck or face. He should get off because this is not what the shoulder charge rule was brought in to stop. This was a heavy shoulder to shoulder bump, by two players running at high speeds to a certain point of the field with minimal time to do anything but brace for the inevitable collision, basically unavoidable, which ended with neither player being even remotely close to injured. There was nothing wrong with it, just like the match review committee decided there was nothing wrong with any of the others.

The only reason we are in this situation is because of the incompetence and inconsistency of the nrl in making rules and grading for tackles. A grade 1 careless high tackle and Billy only has to pay $1500 fine, it would take a grade 3 to get 200 points. Latrell Mitchell can perform two textbook cannonball and crusher tackles in consecutive weeks and receive only a 1 game suspension. Friend commits a grade 1 lifting tackle, and gets off with an early guilty plea despite everything that happened with Mckinnon. It will be an absolute joke if Billy doesn’t get off.

Why Billy Slater isn't entitled to his fairytale ending

Latrell wasn’t in because he committed a cannonball and than crusher tackle in consecutive weeks. He literally had to commit two dangerous tackles, one which could break a man’s neck before he missed a single game. Yet slater gets 200 points for his. Jake friend gets off for a spear tackle with an early guilty plea. The grading system is flawed.

Billy Slater can mount a serious challenge to a shoulder charge

The reason why the one where alexander laughed wasn’t a penalty was because burgess took 2 steps forward and a lunge before playing the ball. When that happens the referee deems play on, same as when a team baulks the tap after a penalty or pretends to play the ball. Oh and the commentators weren’t just mentioning the storm not being back 10 metres, it was both teams, and it was obvious at the game and watching the replay. In fact when burgess was in the bin souths weren’t onside once for a whole set on their goal line and the refs let it go, it wasn’t even marginal, they were 2m offside on the edges each play to stop the ball from ever getting out that far.

Have the NRL's coaches grown up?

Disgraceful article. Questioning my passion, or my dad’s. How dare you, I have a photo of me on the fridge as an 8 year old with Billy Slater taken at the old social club at what is now Hisense Arena. I practiced my chip and chase in the backyard with a broken arm and sat in the rain at Olympic park and played touch footy behind the stands at halftime. I spent my time at school constantly talking about storm and queensland, getting into heated discussions with all my afl loving classmates about why rugby league was better. Rugby League and the Melbourne storm are everything to me and yet you question mine and other storm fans passion. But, let’s look at the numbers, we have 25,000 members, only 2 Sydney clubs can say that despite all of them being around for at least 30 years longer than us. We have the 4th or 5th highest average crowd this year. So you know what, I question your passion and all Sydney nrl fans. There was under 25,000 at a game involving a foundation club and one who won a premiership 2 years ago. Don’t even get me started on the terrible attendance from panthers fans. Where’s the passion mate? Cause I certainly don’t see it in the Sydney fans attending games, and you know what, it’s embarrassing for me, because I have to deal with afl lovers every day banging on about getting 90,000. So don’t you dare question my passion.

Let me count the ways I hate the Storm
