Exactly. Poor selections have cost the Blues at crucial times. Remember when Ricky put on Burher?
Pearce for the Blues again, Laurie?
Unfortunately for Pearce, he’s been on the end of too many hidings and is mentally shot against the QLDers. Thurston and Cronk have his measure and he knows it. Smith would worsen his scars.
Pearce for the Blues again, Laurie?
I hadn’t considered that; I’d have to say I agree too.
Pearce for the Blues again, Laurie?
Cartwright may be another where the opportunity for X-factor was missed. He’s been exposed defensively, has had a lot of off-field turmoil, which is surely taking a hefty toll, and has been quiet so far this year. BJ has his errors, but could be just the games breaker NSW need. A gamble worth taking. Tyrone Peachy is a must for the utility role IMO.
Pearce for the Blues again, Laurie?
Thanks very much. I actually don’t mind the current home ground setup. Sure I’d rather just see the games played at Campbellton and Leichhardt, but I do understand there’s financial gains by going to the bigger stadium too.
Tiger, Tiger burning bright: How Sheens, Farah and Marshall lit a fire
Thanks Ian. Much appreciated.

On the other hand, you could be Tigers’ supporter. Most Wests’ fans would have taken most Dogs’ fans view of mediocrity any day of the week.

Here’s some chum for thought, if Graham was on the open market right now, how much would the woolly Brit be able to command?
When you consider the dollars being bandied about for Fifita’s services earlier this year – 800k if I remember correctly – then you’d have to assume that in current form JG may give that magical reserve of 1 mil a nudge. A figure that only rears its golden head when a club is considering players from the team’s spine.
To me, that says truck loads about the man’s value.
James Graham is one game from the top shelf
A lovely obituary.
I’m a Potter fan too, and I agree with you.
Here’s cheers Mick, goodluck next time.
I love Michael Potter, but he has to go
You are spot on Kris. His post match presser after the Dragons game was the first real sign he’s cracking under the pressure. His rant seemed aimed at people from his own establishment as well as the press and fans.
It’s ironic that the real reason he left Parramatta was because he saw the enormity of the task. The task was made especially hard when you consider that all the players he targeted to recruit knocked him back. In signing for Canberra, Rick would have definitely seen the task as easier. The Raiders were finalists the year prior, due to make the finals in 2014, had some quality in ranks, and had no stench of backroom fighting which had dogged Parra. Funnily, even the Raiders hierarchy probably thought that Parra’s dysfunctional boardroom was a contributing factor to Rick’s unproductive time there, and thus were prepared to cut him slack.
But here we are 12 months later and the Raiders are in the same position as Parra were last year, unable to recruit and unable to win. And Rick is again ringing out the same old lines about the players trying, needing quality and rebuilding. Another tough year for the Green Machine coming up I think.
Ricky overwhelmed as the Raiders unravel
The broad idea of the modern fullback is that they need to be just as versed in setting up tries. Mini is a fullback from another era. No kicking game and no passing game.
The NRL's top three fullbacks
No worries Al, it’s good to see some people from other codes, such as yourself, having a crack at participating in Rugby League conversation. You tried very hard young fella.
Well done!
The NRL's top three fullbacks
Everyone knows that Gould laid the blocks at Bondi,Murray built on it and Ricky put the witches-hats out for Gus in 02 once Murray was gone.
Bye bye Ricky: the Raiders need success not sentiment
Luke Lewis is exactly the type I had in mind. Would love to see it tried.
The Tigers should persist with Chris Lawrence
Lawrence would do better than Blair in some respects. But Blair leaves Lawrence in the dust when it comes to ball control and passing. However, I agree, I do want to see him play more in the middle.
The Tigers should persist with Chris Lawrence
Lawrence wouldn’t be a be bad fit in the back row. He lacks the footwork to be considered line of the Game’s best centres and doesn’t have great hands – not to mention, his passing is diabolical.
Lawrence’s best asset was his speed but that has waned over the last few seasons. However, and I’m going to go out on a limb here, I say that Lawrence’s blistering pace of his youth may have lead his undoing.
Allow me to explain why.
Lawrence’s speed has turned out to be his undoing as he is without question, one of the most 1 dimensional specialist centres in the game. His method to beat an opponent is to out run them, which is often by attempting to go around them. This method probably worked a treat in his junior league days and he probably scored more often than not. However, as a consequence, it has effectively meant that Chris didn’t develop a step, or any footwork for that matter – there was simply no need to.
This has been his greatest undoing. Once his pace dropped, which it has now, Chris is and has been playing more like a wide running back-rower than strike centre, and has so for years.
When you combine Lawrence’s lack of lateral movement – and lack of footwork in general – with an ordinary passing game and a high un-forced error count (16 so far this season), one would have conclude that his days in the numbers 3 or 4 have to be all but over.
As a Tigers’ fan, I would be happy to let him go if he stays a center. However, if he gets moved into the middle of the park, where I seriously believe he could have a career turnaround, I would be more than happy to see him at Concord for a few more years.
The Tigers should persist with Chris Lawrence
Agree with all Tim – and an insightful read.
People can whinge about the way Gould carries on in the com-box, or his pre-origin rants – which, mind you, I began to warm to just as they got the axe. But take the persona away from what the man says, and Gould is very rarely wrong. After beginning as non-fan of Gould, I am now a huge fan. More often than not he speaks common sense and truth. His ideas and insights are first class and it’s no coincidence the Penny Panthers are on the up.
