I hate to break it to you Sam, but CTE is not just a matter of dying five years earlier.

Repetitive brain trauma results in a range of issues – memory and cognition, depression and suicidal behaviour, poor impulse control, aggression, dementia, and Parkinson’s disease (e.g. see Muhammad Ali – whose speech started slurring in 1978 before he retired in 1981 and was diagnosed in 1984, slowing by 26% between 26 and 39 years old. He didn’t die 2016 – 32 years after his diagnosis).

You’re also speaking as though you’ll live long enough to enjoy that money, or if you do live long enough – have a quality of life that lets you enjoy that money.

Take a look at the Canadian wrestler Chris Benoit – He killed his wife and son before committing suicide at 40 years old, with CTE being thought to have a strong link his actions (as well as drugs – though go back and check the impacts of CTE: poor impulse control). When they opened his head and looked at his brain they found his it ‘was so severely damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer’s patient.’

I don’t disagree with your commentary on the AJ/Fury debacle, but I will say this…

If you actually followed boxing, you’d know that Fury tried to get a fight with Usyk in December, almost straight after Usyk’s win over AJ. Usyk then declared he wasn’t going to fight again this year because was carrying an injury/some niggles and that he’d be looking to get a fight with Fury in Q1 of 2023.

This obviously puts Fury at a disadvantage for what would arguably be the biggest fight of his career: making it between 10-12 months since his last bout, versus 6-7 months between bouts for Usyk.

I’m just as disappointed with the third Fury/Chisora fight as well, but as a tune up that is unlikely to demand too much from Fury, it makes the potential for a Usyk/Fury fight in Q1 of 2023 more likely than a Fury/AJ match in December might.

Does it though? He’s quite obviously fearful of vaccinations – How much strength of character does it take to give in to your fears? If he was thinking rationally he’d realise a few things like – The bulk of the people worldwide who have had the vaccinations have not had side effects, the side effects are also by and large actually what you’ll experience if you catch covid, but milder (i.e. anything youre fearful about from a vaccine is more likely to occur if you catch covid), and finally….the man is incredibly rich, he is not getting caught up in the health system like the rest of us if he needs it.

Maybe that’s because science isn’t opinion-based? Who is the best tennis player of all time – That’s opinion-based. Science and the benefit of vaccinations is not sorry.

Tony, you’ve decided to enter a public debate, but the way you’ve done it isn’t necessarily open to public discourse . You’ve got a very set position, and in putting your position forward committed a logical fallacy to dismiss the criticism of the people you’ve taken to criticizing yourself.

The logical fallacy was: Appealing to hypocrisy (i.e. the former players commenting are hypocrites).

Appealing to hypocrisy is known as an attempt neutralize criticism and distract from the issue being discussed.

Past players past actions are only relevant if you consider people are incapable of learning from those experiences you’re labelling them hypocritical for, or that they aren’t capable of growth with over a decade of time to reflect.

Beyond that – whether they are hypocrites or not, does not mean what they are saying is irrelevant.

I personally think you’d be better served making your case for why they’re wrong than going low.
