NSW Origin: the Pale Blue imitation

It is symbolic that today on the precipice of the Blues’ first series victory that the back page of the Daily Telegraph has a picture of NSW’s greatest origin legend… Wally Lewis? After more than 90 matches in the series the most defining image for New South Wales pride is the bronze statue of the […]

Cricket corruption an expectation, not surprise

The recent developments revealing Pakistani cricket’s ties to the underworld should surprise no one. When the ICC submitted to the power of the subcontinent bloc in return for the geyser of revenues on offer it sold the soul of the game, a fair contest, to the highest bidder, organised crime.

Think NRL referees are bad now?

In the world of sports, if you had a graph where one axis was recognition of contribution and the other accountability, you would have referees sitting close to the bottom on recognition and way out to the left on the accountability.

Far superior?

Why all the hate for Cameron Smith?

His numbers? If you’re talking team success in a game involving 34 individuals plus coaching staff then the flaws are somewhat self evident.
If you’re talking individual NRL stats well the NRL has terrible stats for assessing performance and influence on the game.

Why all the hate for Cameron Smith?

Wow I take it you’re too young to remember 2001.

Why all the hate for Cameron Smith?

Hold on did you just equate O’Davis to Slater?

Why all the hate for Cameron Smith?

Where were you on the inglis = immortal debate where many thought Johns was an also ran…

Some players get to the point it’s easier to pick at loose threads than admire the tapestry.

Thst said Smith had a better football IQ than Johns and every other great.

Smith’s “greatness” is really baffling, it was essentially just reading the game better. He didn’t have an obvious inate skill advantage that every other great player has.

I can see why he was passed over because his ceiling should have been Mitch Aubusson.

Why all the hate for Cameron Smith?

More skillful at his apex.

Smith is another example of our insistence on forced rankings belittling greatness.

Why do we need to denigrate John’s yo celebrate Cam.

They were extremely different players, any comparisons are kind of pointless.

Why all the hate for Cameron Smith?

Twitter was the downfall of well reasoned argument and long form media.

Why all the hate for Cameron Smith?

Yep. The problem is clearly the coach…

'Thought we'd be a top eight side': Titans chairman on Brennan's departure

Shutting up shop wouldn’t acheive much.
It’s not about brand or identity etc it’s the same problem that plagues every underperforming club… constant change.

They’re never building, they are always RE building. Repeatedly starting over is the exact reason they are where they are.

Every perennial under achiever does the same thing in league because we lack management capabilities at many clubs.

They try to catch lightning in a bottle because it worked for someone else once.

They need to build on strengths, not work on rebuilding the weaknesses. Incremental and focused change.

It will take time but sadly that’s the more probable pathway from inferior to successful.

We all accept that players have to graft and work for a lifetime to succeed but want the magic pill for a club to succeed in a closed win/loss league.

Brennan had to go, but the Titans' problems run deeper than the coach

I love it. Horford is one of those few players who earns max money without the ball running through him.

He can shoot so can clear space, hit a cutters (Simmons is nasty as a cutter after giving the ball up) and is a plus defender.

They got better, but how much so will depend on Simmons offseason and Embeid’s durability.

I didn’t like the butler trade to begin with and now, I’d still rather have Covington but overall they are better whilst the celtics have wasted an opportunity and the nets are a year away.

Sorry for the late reply my account wasn’t available for whatever reason.

Where do the major stars go in free agency?

The warriors issue is consistency. Not on in game or week to week but off field and season to season.

They change coaches, shift roles, shift strategies and seem to be in constant flux from a strategic sense that they’re never giving the guys on the park a fair chance.

You see it at so many clubs that just compound errors by wanting a quick fix to an ingrained problem.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 15

On Philly – why can’t they re-sign those three Astro? They’d have two years before needing to make a move to avoid the repeater tax. If they don’t I’d see it more as a value decision than a real cost constraint.

Agree on the other prospects though. Knicks don’t have much: I’m not sure on Knox, looks more highlight than scoreboard. Barrett isn’t a sure thing. Lots of question mark’s in NYC

And a Nets team “led” by kyrie. Does that even exist.

I said at the close of last year Boston was going to have chemistry issues and should have trade Irving to create room for their youngsters to grow. Now the nets are going to import that issue into their chemistry based success….

Kemba Walker going to the celtics is at least neutral at PG (90% of his shot making none of his ebola-ness) but losing Horford is a tacit thumbs down on Ainge’s 2018/19. All those assets and what he’s got to show – losing Horford, baynes and Rozier whilst Brown depreciated.

Overall he’s done a great job but last year was a huge miss. Funny thing that Sexton is probably going to be the most positively influential player from that trade if he becomes a career starter.

Where do the major stars go in free agency?

Apologies Souvalis!

Was overly sensitive this morning (not the origin – sadly a lop sided loss like that gives you an hour to come to terms with it!). Still not sure why saying the blues are better across the park is a whine but I didn’t need to return serve like that.

Brad Fittler’s response to the doubters and critics: What, me worry?

Why because I can see that the opponents should have won both matches?

I can see that your faecal matter is nicely internalised between the ears.

Brad Fittler’s response to the doubters and critics: What, me worry?

Well to be fair he probably looked at the game realised if he hadn’t humstrung you guys int eh second half you’d already be 1 up, not panicking when you’ve got the vastly suprior team that lost largely due to coaching is pretty easy.

Labelling Fittler a good coach for not repeating the same fatal errors is like giving my 5 year old entry to mensa because he stopped pooing his pants.

Brad Fittler’s response to the doubters and critics: What, me worry?

Definitely but deliberately letting Chambers be involved in general play ahs to be beyond the guideline. I’m actually think Wighton was now just trying to help QLD out because he could see how we were getting detroyed in the ruck. He worried about our morale if he let Chambers bobble another one.

Chambers’ State of Origin penalty try a debacle

“They operate in accordance with the relevant state and federal laws that afford them some varying degrees of exemptions.”

I’m pretty sure the general counsel of GoFundMe will have a very similar response to their legal right here.

Nope missed the point completely.

The failure of logic comes from the fact that you are saying these people are going to flood from the wood work to ATLEAST DOUBLE the contribution based on it being a free speech issue.

But there’s no evidence of that having occurred before with actual free speech causes in Australia

Hence failure of logic to just imagine up this investor base.

But again you want the rules changed….but a change in interpretation of the existing rules towards a similar outcome is a “debacle”

Chambers’ State of Origin penalty try a debacle

Sound more like there’s a few people with a broken logic switch.

The various iterations of the Christian church (and other religions) openly discriminate on the provision of services and employment based on ideology.

I support their rights to do so in a peaceful and respectful manner.

GoFundMe removes Israel Folau's fundraiser over terms of service breach

Absent the ticky tack theft/fraud and the terms they’ve got… any “discrimination” is still really only be agaisnt Folau as he the only one that has suffered loss.

Riddle me this does the Church discriminate on employment and service provision based on religion?

To be fair then NSW players should be sin binned for a professional foul by allowing chambers to receive the ball in scoring position, if they had an opportunity to prevent it, under the unsportsman like conduct catch all.

Chambers’ State of Origin penalty try a debacle

The thin end of the wedge is disregarded for sensible arguments.

If it were real then any compromise on any matter would lead to absolute anarchy.

They didn’t discriminate against all Christians who support him.

It’s hard to argue discrimination when you get given money back. There’s no economic loss here for the supporters.

Free speech?

Gee I hope not. There’s legitimate free speech issues to focus on that devoting resources to this would be a failure of logic.
