They could easily get support for a Perth Rugby League side. Have you forgotten State of Origin sold out there as well as Australia VS NZ test matches. Souths always had healthy crowds when they played there too. People in Perth still like the game.
If the Melbourne Storm can survive in AFL heartland, Perth would be no problem at all.

Just because you have 20 teams or even more than 20 teams, it does not mean you need a 2 tier comp.
Look at the English soccer, League One has 24 teams with no conference.
The EPL has 20 teams and no conference either.

Pretty stupid just calling them “The Dolphins”. Nobody will know where exactly they represent.
Why don’t they call them the “Sunshine State Dolphins” like what was originally planned.
Sounds professional like a NFL team. The NRL is the closest type of sport to American football in Australia so a name like that works well.

A draft system will never happen in the NRL.
The reason why is because it would take away any incentive for clubs like Penrith Panthers to invest so heavily into grassroots football and juniors.
That is why Penrith is so successful in the NRL at the moment, they have so many good players coming through from reserve grades.
Their entire team is almost all from Panthers juniors. If Panthers lost all their best new players to a draft system, investment into junior systems would disappear.
So many great players have started in the Penrith System.
As for expansion, their are enough players for another team. There is a whole 12 team professional competition in the UK where Rugby League players could come from.
Unlike the AFL, Rugby League is lucky it has a following in more than 1 country. UK & NZ both supply a lot of our players.
Fox and CH9 both want a second NRL team in Brisbane because Rugby League rates really well there. And Redcliff Dolphins definitely have the deep pockets and infrastructure to support a new NRL team.

Because they hate each other. Would be the same outcome as when North’s and Manly tried to merge as the Northern Eagles.
Then one team ends up as no longer being part of the NRL.

Cronulla merging with St George? That would have to be the stupidest idea I have ever seen on here. Both teams hate each other and is one of the biggest team rivalries in the NRL.
All mergers do is shrink the supporter base. I was a North’s fan and now we don’t even have an NRL team to support on the North Shore. That’s how good merging with Manly worked. A lot of disillusioned Norths supporters follow the Swans in the AFL instead now.
Either the NRL expand with more teams, or leave it as it is.
