Jason Kidd in the NBA? His injury-depleted Brooklyn Nets are competing in the playoffs right now.
Sydney FC must secure Del Piero as coach
Would be over the moon if that were to happen – but it never will. Seems that racism is a one-way street.
The NBA faced a Stern test and passed with flying colours
Well, at least SBW gets to walk out of the rugby league test arena as a loser – something all Aussies can be proud of.
Coach Kearney has seriously devalued the Kiwi Test jumper
I agree with JACK.
His performance at Parramatta was hardly reason for him to coach his national side. Next please.

Scrapping City-Country just absolutely needs to happen for so many reasons. If the players don’t care, why should the fans?
Rugby league's rep weekend is a watered-down farce
That’s a pity Gene, if you’d managed to get off your high horse and read the article, Terry made some good points.
Terry, I 100% agree. And I must admit, among all the game plans and supposed strategy that is in the game these days, the game is ultimately about kicking goals. Watching Lance Franklin meander up the field a few rounds ago against North Melbourne frustrated me to no end. The Sydney Swans bought this guy because of what he can do in front of goals, and how he manages to get the ball through the big sticks. Just a few seasons ago this guy managed to be that one player who kicked over 100 goals in a season in the past 15 years. I’m sure Sydney didn’t pay 10 million dollars for Franklin to be a link man up the park to (insert Sydney player here) to kick a goal instead. If I were a coach, I would ALWAYS have one player in the forward 50. Bring back the traditional full-forward!
Cloke, Hawkins and the great full forward roller coaster ride
Agreed. Betham and Alofa fit in much better with the Tahs “style-over-substance” play than the fairly conservative Crawford and Horne.
Waratahs will still win the Australian conference
I love the idea. Recognise those who are present every year but perhaps suffer from the umps turning a blind eye because their sides lose each week (e.g. Scott West).
It's time to recognise the Brownlow's most consistent scorers
Very interesting have Dugan on the bench. This is not a criticism, but may I ask why you’re prepared to forego that extra lunch of an extra bench forward for Dugan?
My New South Wales Blues team
I liked Adam on the wing the last few tests he played there. No need to change a winning squad unless something forces our hand.
Who will wear the Wallabies No. 13 in 2014?
A great article. Thank you Alessandro for proving the A-League and Sydney FC with some relevance, and for providing our league and my team with your brilliance and class.
Alessandro: we thank you
I’d love to see Karl back in the league coaching. He has so much to offer a team!!!
Good luck picking the 2013/14 NBA Coach of the Year
Almost scrolled past this comment until I saw the last line… “rookie of the year…does anyone actually deserve it”
Perhaps you’re one of those people that only watches the top teams in the league, or you either just flat out haven’t noticed Michael Carter-Williams or Victor Oladipo. How you’ve missed them though, remains a mystery to me.
Good luck picking the 2013/14 NBA Coach of the Year
Agreed. I love my Super Rugby and would hate to see the SA teams leave.
South African exit from Super Rugby inevitable
Ennis is not the MVP of the league; he’s definitely not the best player in the country.
Yes yes he’s a pretty good player, but the league can survive without him, as they will have to next year. Imports come and imports go. None stay past a year, at the max two. Yes you get some staying for a lot of their careers, and that’s great.
But the bottom line is, with players, especially egomaniacs like Ennis, he will be here for likely a year and choof off to try and make the NBA. And best of luck to him. Hopefully he finds some humility along the way.
I fail to see why the NBL needs anyone who isn’t a superstar who’s prepared to stay here for their career, or at least the bulk of it. We certainly don’t need someone who thinks he is bigger than the league, that’s for sure.
Next year, his position as one of the league’s best will be taken over by another super-athletic important, and Ennis will be forever forgotten on Australian shores.
James, you claim the NBL needs this prima dona because he’s…”athletic”. Uh oh.
He’s the MVP of dummy spits, but go easy on James Ennis
I may be biased, but keep an eye on Wests if they make the finals. They’ve already stayed some of the finals mainstays of the past few years, and if they can strengthen up that defence, look for them to have a dignified finals campaign.
Parity is priceless for league lovers
Gotta love the deflection from Buzz Rothfield that “his source has been fired”.
Hollywood plots afoot in the NRL
Agreed.
Ennis is a loser that we don’t need in the NBL.
That said, no more needs to be said about this incident.
He’s the MVP of dummy spits, but go easy on James Ennis
Makes sense. Would like to see every NBL team represented in the ABL, but that will not be likely.
Perhaps a revamping of basketball in this country (such as your suggestion) is what’s needed to regain some of the excitement. It seems that now, whenever the Australian public hears about the NBL on TV or radio, they tune out, because it’s perceived as virtually irrelevant. Perhaps joining the ABL can change this, among other things.
Why do we bother with the NBL?
Agreed. It always seems to be “bright future” for the Soceroos.
Let’s hope we can capitalise this time.
The future of the Socceroos is bright
Yes, okay, the Swans are losing, we get it.
Next please.
The Sydney Swans are falling apart
While I am not commenting on whether Australia deserve the number one test spot or not, I do not agree that the fact that South Africa have held the no. 1 ranking for quite a while means that we can not take it off them – rankings are about the here and now, the same way that if SA smash NZ twice in the Rugby Championship, the All Blacks do not hold onto the no. 1 ranking simply because they have “had it for ages”.
Australia don't deserve top Test ranking yet
