Agree. It’s horrible what happened to Alex, but banning something as soon as someone gets hurt is stupid. Simon Dwyer also hurt his collarbone in an attempt to tackle. Should we now ban tackling? And Taniela Tuiaki’s ankle injury. Should stepping someone be banned?
Alex McKinnon's injury is a wake-up call
Yup, let’s go find another sport. Good idea
GURU: Bring back the shoulder charge, but can the wrestling
Honestly guys? Get a life. Take the article for what it is.
Even as a Tigers fan I’d find it hard-pressed to pick Brooks this year. He’s just too inexperienced. He’s only played four first-grade games now, and by Origin it won’t have been too many more. However, it’s scary he has such a big case after only four games. Next year he should look like a lock for #7
Are NSW brave enough to pick Luke Brooks?
Wouldn’t worry about it. Any half-decent player will stick around and play for the Wallabies. It’s what every Australian rugby player dreams of when they start playing the game, not making big bucks lying around on some French beach. Yes we may see a higher exodus at certain points, such as after the World Cup, but it is likely they will be older players easily replaced; a blessing in disguise, if you will. I think the reason everyone is up in arms is because Ben Mowen is the outlier here. But that was his choice to take the money and run.
RATHBONE: Mowen's departure may just be the beginning
Franko, would you like to explain to us why this is a silly article?
The fact is, it’s not at all. Travis I applaud your bravery in posting this article, and you raise some good points. No-one can really know what to expect out of Port this year, and they definitely have the ability to surprise us again.
Port Adelaide will shock the AFL world and win the flag
Agreed. Look at it any way you will but nine times out of 10, box kicks are still kicking possesion away
The art of the box kick
Hmmm agreed. This continual rorting joke is getting a bit old.
One burning question for every NRL club (part one)
And so is the fury at the Tahs’ success 😀
Waratahs still the real deal despite Canberra hiccup
First of all, good article Dan. You raise some interesting points that would definitely be worth investigating.
Johnno, what interests me most about your comment is scraping SOO. Surely the fans would hate to see it go, being the peak of world rugby league, but I have to agree that there could be a possibility that it is killing the NRL. Would like to see you write an article expending on this topic…
How to make the NRL great again
Wait, what round is it? Round 2? Calm down champion.
Parra, do the fans even Matta to you anymore?
I thought we weren’t listening to Phil Gould any more? It is well established that he is a fool.
20,000 people in an empty stadium: NRL must move back to the 'burbs
I have Foxtel. Still not able to see every game live. Please do your research!
The NRL needs to get bums on seats
Agreed. I was a the Tigers-Dragons game yesterday, beautiful sunny Sunday, 3 PM, there was a decent crowd. I can imagine if it was at a decent stadium, there would’ve been an even better crowd.
The NRL needs to get bums on seats
Agreed. The sooner the NRL rids itself of Channel Nine, the better. Ray Warren is a decent caller, but there are better. No-one else on Nine’s coverage is worth mentioning. And the fact that, in 2014, every game is still not televised live, is embarrassing. Unfortunately for the NRL, Sydney sports fans are terrible. It’s going to take something of a miracle to get NRL crows up to a respectable level. The league can start by as few games at ANZ Stadium as possible.
Where are the NRL crowds?
It’s no secret they Dave Smith is dope. A billon-dollar tv deal that still doesn’t see every NRL match televised live proves it. This is 2014. Not good enough. The suits seem to have no idea what the fans want, eyes only for the $ sign. Surely they realise that in putting the fans first, the $$$ will come in spades. Same goes for the clubs. Scheduling this round was a joke. I haven’t looked at the rest of the season, but hopefully it’s not quite as bad as round 1. But you have to wonder, if people don’t show up to round 1, when will they? Unfortunately Curtis, putting it down to “improved match-day experience” is a total cop-out. People don’t show up for anything other than the product, being the match. That’s it. Unfortunately, the NRL seems to be acing all the reasons fans wouldn’t want to show up to a match.
The NRL needs to get bums on seats
It’s a pity, isn’t it Mike? Such a great sport ruined by the people running it. If Dave Smith doesn’t have the league in a clearly upwards trajectory by the end of next year, he can get the boot.
The A-League can learn from NRL's mistakes
“All he has to do is tap into it”
Pity he’s an idiot.
Anyone can see these obvious follies and faults in the management of round 1. Hopefully it doesn’t continue throughout the season. Unfortunately, you have to think, if people don’t show up to round 1, what will they show up to? :/
Rugby league needs to broaden its horizons
I just don’t get why everyone in this country is so obsessed/has such high expectations of the team. We’re rubbish, we always have been. We’re a pretty excellent basketball team, why doesn’t everyone get as nuts over them? Or hockey? Really quite odd.

So true.
The Wallabies' 9 jersey: a game of five halves
It’s not an Australian trait at all…
It’s a human trait.
Why are we so quick to blame the referees?
I also agree entirely. Another topic on which the NRL needs to take a leaf out of the AFL’s book. Stick to a design and stay with, please
