A Canterbury Bulldogs fan for many years- started when I lived in Sydney in that area and before that my brother went to Canterbury High School. Now live in the bush, but occasionally get to a game when the Bulldogs play the Raiders in Canberra. I do not like the new rules, as far as I am concerned the game was fast enough and I admire good defence as much as good attack. Can you please change my display name to Ceebee. (won't let me change it.)

To be fair, you are comparing apples with oranges. As Cooper Cronk said last night Webster has a lot more to work with than Ciraldo, a top halfback, a good fullback and a big, strong and skilful forward pack, a recipe for success in Rugby League. Whereas Canterbury is still struggling to find somebody to fill the halfback position, they are short of a big forward and their fullback has been very ordinary. Due to long term and a spate of short term injuries, we seldom field the same team each week.

ANALYSIS: Ciraldo needs to have a long, hard look at his attack as Warriors blunt Bulldogs in impressive win

Johnson is on top of his game and creating attacking opportunities all around the park, and our forwards were outmuscled by a strong Warrior’s pack. Burton is playing in the wrong position, simply because we do not have an alternative. Wilson the young winger played well and would have been a better choice last week than Casey, who let is a number of tries. Okunbar despite all the criticism he gets, is going well in the forwards, but overall we are weak in key positions, halfback and fullback. There does not seem to be a solution to halfback, but I agree it would be worth trying Averillo at fullback.

There seems to be more bad calls than ever this year, which in some cases affect the outcome of the game. It is not confined to the Warriors, as most of the bottom placed teams get the short of the end of the stick when it comes penalties, sinbins and 50/50 calls. There is certainly bias towards the top teams and anyone who can’t see that has not been watching the games. We are all biased towards the teams we support but to be fair it is happening to most of the lower placed teams. However, I know I will be very annoyed if this outburst causes favouritism towards the complainer as the Bulldogs play the Warriors next week-end. A fair go is what everyone wants.

Annesley slams Warriors sponsor over 'cheating of the highest order' bunker rant: 'No comment could be worse'

If Cleary is playing injured, and Hynes is fit then he should be the obvious choice, as he is playing out of his skin at the moment. Also when he was at the storm Nicho was very versatile, playing in different positions and I always thought he had something special.
It is sometimes hard to follow Fittlers reasoning and I agree he does seem to have a preference for players from certain teams, regardless of form.

NRL News: Seibold and Eddie battle for Wallabies target, Fittler says Hynes no Blues certainty, Gould slams Flanagan claims

Has there ever been a young halfback who does not have “star” quality been the subject of so many headlines than Kyle Flanagan. Last year Rothfield and Co went overdrive because he was dropped by Barret, now they are admitting he is not up to the job in first grade. I suspect this time a certain Manager who controls the Flanagans, Sieboldt and other Manly players, might be behind a lot of these rumours. I feel sorry for Kyle – he could do without all this.

What troubles me is the game is constantly being tweaked to encourage gambling. With the crack down on poker machines, will online gambling be next. I know Australians love to gamble, but should Vlandys be re-arranging our game to encourage something which creates so many problems in society

NRL Magic Round preview talking points: Who’s excited to watch some wagering content?

Well done to a depleted Bulldogs side who got absolutely no favours from the referee. The sin binning of Waddel was ridiculous. Averillo was the star of the show, but Burns deserves a special mention – he is a smart player. If Atkins thought what Grub said to him was over the top, it is just as well he didn’t hear some of the fans comments.

ANALYSIS: Ciraldo gets last laugh after falling-out as Bulldogs down Dragons to ensure Griffin's time is nearly up

Congratulations to the Tigers. Everyone likes to see the underdogs get up, but to the long suffering fans it is momentous. More wins will surely follow.

Tigers terrrrific: Wooden spooners cause boilover of the year by upsetting Panthers in wet at Bathurst

I think it would be a mistake to bring Oluapu into the game against Cronulla, who are flying high at the moment, but agree he should be eased in some time soon. Flanagan’s attack is very disappointing, but he is a good defender and at the moment we need all we can get of that. Ciraldo is instilling a good attitude into the group, but it is a big task with so many of our top players out. I know it is several week’s away, but am looking forward to the time when all our injured players are back as there has been no chance to guage how the full team will perform.

'It’s a symbol of the team and where Matt sits': Why Ciraldo has swapped Burton and Flanagan amid worst injury crisis in years

If falling with your body weight on someone’s legs is going to be called a hip drop, then the NRL need to clarify that. They took great pains to describe a hip drop tackle and what Haas did was only one out of their three indicators. Nine out ten of those I have seen are accidents and they will continue to happen when big men try to bring opponents to the ground, so it will be hard to stamp out of the game.
I think this year’s may be Brisbane’s year, they seem to have it all at the moment, clever forwards and fast backs, but will lose Flegler and Farnsworth to the Dophins next year. Parramatta were talked up last week after defeating a depleted Bulldogs side but they will need to improve to make the finals. Their first try was a blatant mistake by the referee, giving Parra a penalty for Brisbane losing the ball, when it should have been the opposite with Lane all over the player attempting to play the ball.

ANALYSIS: Charges revealed after hip-drop dramas, Broncos may be title contenders, Eels on the slide

Forward passes are becoming a given in every game and as they often lead to tries, it is time they were penalised. A sloppy play the ball is always picked up, but they are not as detrimental to the defending team as forward passes. The touchies who are in line with the ball surely should be calling them, but they just seem to be ignored by all.

NRL Round 8 preview talking points: Bin everyone, don’t let a coin toss decide a game and remember, sport is not war

Very true! Just a loan while we are short on troops, with a signed returns policy in place.

Round 8 Late Mail, Round 9 teams: Turbo set to play, Nelson not cleared, Crichton to start, RCG hobbled

Perhaps Robbo or Uncle Nick, in the goodness of their hearts, could be persuaded to loan Walker to the Dogs who are very short of FG players at the moment. Just a thought!!

Round 8 Late Mail, Round 9 teams: Turbo set to play, Nelson not cleared, Crichton to start, RCG hobbled

All in favour of the sin bins where warranted, but it has to be applied consistently to all teams. Losing a player for 10 minutes can mean the difference between winning and losing and certain referees seem to be using six again and sin bins to control games. There is NO consistency in the way the rules are applied and it is what most people want.

Who’s to blame for spike in sin bins - and why refs should use it even more if message still doesn’t sink in

Did someone at the Bulldogs walk under several ladders and smash a multitude of mirrors? First all our front rowers and now injuries to the backs mounting up. I fear the burden will be too heavy on our remaining players young blokes in their first year and NSW Cup players and there will be more injuries. I was proud of the way they hung in there with a makeshift backline, but was absolutely disgusted with the refereeing. Have always loved League but am becoming more and more cynical about the way the game is being run.

Did someone say the Tigers are unlucky – two of the above seriously hurt at training. Beggars belief. Oh well, it will give some of the young guys a chance to shine – or not.

Round 7 team lists Late Mail: Reynolds cleared, Manly get Turbo boost, Kikau out long term, Munster's surprise switch

Of course,it is the lack of front rowers through injury, which I agree is constantly ignored in the commentary. Agree about the bench, seems very strange not to use a player, even if the bench is poor. Also, in any game I have watched, Johnson’s try would have been no try and a penalty – have seen tries taken off teams with less obstruction than that.

The Dolphins were missing key payers and were brave in defeat. They would have won a lot of admirers.

Thanks for a good laugh to start the day Tony. However it appears that the Judiciary Committee did not agree about Kaufusi being a good guy now he is playing for the Dolphins. I do think it strange that Sua’ali’il (how are we supposed to remember how to spell that) only got a fine for a similar act – a massive difference in the punishment for something which looked equally bad.

Congrats to Corey on his two tries – I remember he was loaned to the Bulldogs, when they were down on troops during covid, and always gave a wholehearted performance.
