Yup, once again I tuned in on Sunday and got my hopes up when they scored first… I just can’t help myself

New Zealand Worriers getting down on consistent heartache

He’d probably be top 5 just because he knows the players him and Doyle have signed. He just needs a good defensive coach though.

The other 4 would be:
Wayne Bennett – Obvious reasons, the man’s a guru.
Craig Bellamy – The players would fear him.
Ivan Cleary – Coached them to a final already
Trent Robinson – He can coach kiwis and has done amazing things with that Roosters team.

I’ve had a few moments where I nearly gave up Cedric but I keep crawling back for more disappointment.

Five 20 year olds is no excuse to let in 50 unanswered points. They get their heads down and lose interest after a couple of tries.

Nobody is entitled to any runs. A big chunk of the success depends on how the guy throwing the ball at him is going as well.

Is the MCG too big for the Black Caps to win on?

Yes mistimed swings won’t go to the boundary but no mistimed swings won’t be guaranteed out. There’s plenty of empty space for these to land in the wide open pasture (comparatively to Eden Park) of the G

ogre – Makes a claim about the NZ test side, attempts to back it up with ODI stats…

NZ has a very capable test team (as they’ve shown over the last 5 series). We have batsmen making big scores, bowlers taking wickets and a bunch of players waiting in the wings for their chance. Corey Anderson – one of the best all rounders in the world at the moment, can’t break the test team. Doug Bracewell vs Wagner for the 3rd seamer. Ish Sodhi vs Mark Craig vs Jeetan Patel for the spinner. So many of these players are young as well, they’ll be around for years! Exciting time for NZ cricket

The transformation of New Zealand

Maybe on your side of the Tasman. Over here in NZ they can’t get enough of it. As well as the X Factor judges unfortunately

11 reasons why this is the greatest cricket World Cup ever

Great minds think alike Lindsay http://www.theroar.com.au/2015/03/26/a-winning-team-or-a-team-of-winners-the-black-caps-are-both/

The Black Caps are a truly complete team

I agree, when I heard Warnie’s voice in a few NZ games I thought here we go, I’ll have to watch the game on mute now. But he’s actually offered insight and analysis from a real cricketers brain. I hope he keeps it up for next summers test series against NZ

11 reasons why this is the greatest cricket World Cup ever

The stand out ‘good, hard and fair cricket’ moment for me (and probably the other million or so people who have liked the photo on Facebook) is Grant Elliott offering Dale Steyn a hand after hitting the winning six. This personifies how cricket should be played.

11 reasons why this is the greatest cricket World Cup ever

Not at all. All I’ve talked about is things that have already happened fiddlesticks. Regardless of what happens in the final I’m happy with how we’ve performed in the World Cup and the BlackCaps can hold their heads high

A winning team or a team of winners? The Black Caps are both

Thanks Kia Kaha. I thought my attempt at humour would have made it obvious this wasn’t an official government apology on behalf of all NZers and more of a lighthearted fun read.
Also, I think some of the unsavoury comments and the way they’ve been worded have backed up the opinions expressed in the piece rather than disputing them.

Apologies to Australia from a New Zealand sports fan

I hope this love for the game of cricket lasts even when we’re not winning every game. NZ fans are a fickle breed and they’ll jump on something else as soon as the success is over.
The only reason the All Blacks have such a massive, ‘loyal’ following is because they’re constantly winning.

Yeah since writing this article I have taken a step back and thought more about what I said. If I could re-write the whole thing I’d attack the beast that feeds the trolls you see across social media and the comments sections on articles.

maximillian, Bobbo7. Clearly this Happy Hooker is just trying to wind us up.

What’s Netball? Is that the practice version of what the Breakers have been dominating these last few years? 🙂

Apologies to Australia from a New Zealand sports fan

Thanks Meng. I’m often the butt of jokes with my friends because of my unwavering support of the BlackCaps, Warriors and Kiwis. Watch this space for a defence article if we don’t take the trophy home. They’ve already done us proud and if we make it past the semi’s I’ll be beyond happy. They’ve given me a lot of enjoyment this summer!

Apologies to Australia from a New Zealand sports fan

I agree with you about the Maxwell choke taunt. I loved it, but there’s people on ‘Veitchy on Sport’ etc that took it the wrong way and didn’t see that the big show was just trying to have some fun.
If I could change one thing about the way I wrote this article, I would have been more critical of the media because it’s them that drives the tendency to exaggerate our success

Apologies to Australia from a New Zealand sports fan

I agree Phil, the most vocal anti-australian people are the NZ version of ockers. I just wrote an article apologising for them so hopefully that’ll be out in the next day or 2

Why this Australian would love New Zealand to win the World Cup

agreed…

For glorious World Cup future, we need to boot out some teams

Great article Andrew, thank you for coming out of your 13 month retirement to write it. Can’t wait to see the boys applaud Warner’s 50 to throw him off and his reaction – edging it straight to Rosco.

New Zealand to host Australia on the moral high ground

Yesterdays first 3 wickets fell as follows 1-24, 2-41, 3-63 so we were never 3 for 27. But I agree, we still would have lost from there in the past and Williamson is on his way to be NZs best ever batsman in Tests & ODIs

Are the Black Caps the real deal?

All it takes is for someone to be the bigger person and walk away from the conflict? The history is only there because these situations keep happening… It’s time to create a new history between the two and leave the past in the past. Easier said than done, I know, but at least give it a try then the negative media won’t have anything to fill their page impression quota and they’ll have to start writing positive stories again

The irony of Warner’s comment shows that it’s time to grow up

There’s 2 different types of sledging though:

1) The witty banter to put an opponent off, this has happened a bit in the NZ v Sri Lanka series. Sangakkara has been constantly chattering away behind the stumps at the NZ batsmen throughout the ODIs and there was plenty of chat in the field in the tests but the teams respected each other and congratulated milestones when they came about.
2) Being a d*** by yelling in the face of your opponent when they’re given out and confronting them when there’s a questionable run/call from the umpire.

I know Australia & India have historically been much more aggressive teams than NZ or Sri Lanka but watching the game I’d much rather see 2 teams that respect each other and play with the spirit of cricket in mind than try to intimidate each other. The intimidation only spoils the positive headlines (Finches near century or Starcs career best 6-for) with the games negatives.

The irony of Warner’s comment shows that it’s time to grow up

I think Guptill hitting form is the key to us making the World Cup final. If he can be steady as an opener there’s less pressure on McCullum and he can play his natural game. If Guptill sticks around Ronchi and Anderson will be free to play shots at the end as well and if one of those 3 aggressors has his eye in we’re in for a decent total
