Vettori is inter-changeable with Nathan McCullum, they both offer different strengths and the inclusion of one over the other wouldn’t weaken the side. Hopefully Boult can transform his test success to the white ball. I think he’s a better option than Milne and Mills though because they can both get spanked if they’re a little bit off.

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka: Game 1 player-by-player analysis

If you’ve been reading any NZ news website since the team announcement there are hundreds of people commenting that Jimmy Neesham should be in the team. To clear up any confusion, I don’t agree with them.
I’m all for Grant Elliott as he’s more proven at this level. He just needs to show people why he’s been selected as he didn’t do that in the first game. He looked way out of his depth and could have been given out on 3 of the 6 deliveries he faced.

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka: Game 1 player-by-player analysis

I’m with you on this kiwihaydn. A lot of the above mentioned players were respected whenever they visited other countries. Maybe it’s Australian crowds who are the real villains? Or do they just bring out the worst in people?

Where does Virat Kohli rank among the greatest villains to visit our shores?

Ross Taylor is capable of the same sort of innings and there’s always Williamson to steady ship if things are going wrong. The key to NZ winning is Guptill hitting form though so the rest can play their natural game without the added pressure.

2015 Cricket World Cup: The contenders and pretenders

He’s definitely lucky to still be there Sylvester!
That’s worth a shot, I imagine if we were losing he wouldn’t be there. He’s just lucky he’s surrounded by success, hopefully he’s picking things up off Williamson and Taylor

I couldn’t be happier with the state of New Zealand cricket

Brilliant article, I’m a New York Knicks fan for no other reason than I liked Carmelo when he first started and I followed him across to the East Coast. The Knicks have been terrible lately and I’ve found myself watching more and more GSW games because they’re such a good team to watch. They’re a real shot at the championship this year and have improved immensely in the last 12 months. I can’t wait to see Bogut back to full strength and see how far they make it.

Golden State of mind: Steph Curry is basketball poetry

I’d rather Mark Craig or even Ish Sodhi spinning over Lyon. Both can actually spin it, can pick up wickets and are handy with the bat as well.

My 2014 World Test XI

I was there for Sangas 200 on Sunday and it was so good to see the spirit of cricket alive and well. Every NZ player congratulated him after he was caught magnificently and the crowd applauded every great shot he played.

Sledging must be eradicated from cricket

Some people take life a little too seriously. I thought this article was an entertaining read

You don't need runs and wickets to be an Australian cricketer

It’s all well and good to say this Warner but I’ll believe it when I see it. The Australians are easily the worst (or best depending on how you look at it) at this. There’s little respect for their opponents and in my opinion (not Australian) they often act like d***ks.

Stop the sendoffs, Warner pleads

In NZs defence that was an extremely poor period of test cricket for us. At the same time you guys were on top of the world. Much more level playing field now though, bring on next summer!

The New Zealand Test team should be taken a lot more seriously

This event has shown the true character of a lot of different groups.
Firstly, the leaders. Clarke has been faultless, McCullum, inspiring and Virat Kohli, understanding.
Secondly, the players. They have shown what a tight community they really are. Messages of support have been coming in from top players all around the globe. You forget how many times these guys come up against or play alongside each other in the various global T20 leagues and county cricket.
Thirdly, the games governors. ICC, BCCI, and Cricket Australia have shown their flexibility when so often they are criticised for standing strong on different matters from selections to scheduling tours.

Why we have put our bats out for a man we barely knew

Thanks DCNZ, I was sleep deprived on Monday but it was worth it!
I wrote an article a while ago about how it’s difficult to support NZ teams outside of the All Blacks but very rewarding. These ‘moments’ I talked about are becoming more and more common and I’m loving it!

Sure the All Blacks win, but supporting New Zealand is tough

The New Zealand Test team should be taken a lot more seriously

Next summer looks very exciting! Playing you guys over there in a 3 test series then we’re back at home against you in Feb. March 2017 is the next time we get a go at South Africa though, by then Williamson, Latham, Boult and Southee will be top 5 players in their respective trades.

The New Zealand Test team should be taken a lot more seriously

Carlos Boozer is averaging his lowest assists per game (1.6), points per game (12.6) and field goals attempted (11.4) since his Rookie season even though he is shooting a higher percentage than he shot his last 2 seasons with the Bulls.

Jeremy Lin is shooting the best FG% & 3P% of his career and also getting the least shots per game of his career (ignoring his year with the Warriors where he played 9 mins per game).

Meanwhile Kobe’s Salary for this season is $23,500,000. The combined salary of the rest of the team (14 players) is $48,055,915 at an average of $3,432,565.

Moral of the story, if you want to improve your efficiency head to the Lakers because you’ll be expected to score just as many points as you have been in the past with less shots. Oh and at the same time watch someone take home a third of the money and shoot 37% (the 5th worst in the whole Lakers line up)

Cricket or booze? What a stupid comment! How about spending time with your friends and family to appreciate life. Why do we always have to resort to the bottle? It doesn’t make things any better.

The Gabba Test must be played

It’s not just “simplifying it for the simpler folk” though. Ask anyone at ‘World Rugby’ (formally known as the IRB) to give a ruling on a scrum penalty and I promise you that you wouldn’t get a consistent answer. Nobody seems to know the proper interpretation of the rules and it ends up with a lucky dip penalty

Rugby union need to incorporate league scrums

sorry, he moved here when he was 4. Hardly poached by the All Blacks though? Unless they have a psychic as a talent scout

10 players every Kiwi wished were All Blacks

Rugby League and Cricket are constantly changing!
All sports change over time to adapt to peoples preferences. If you don’t agree all you need to do is look at how Rugby is played now compared to the early 80’s. It’s a more open game with 5 point tries.

Rugby union need to incorporate league scrums

Thank you! Someone has actually seen this article for what it is! I wrote it to start a discussion on the pros and cons of the scrum. Some of the earlier comments would rather attack with sarcasm than have a well rounded debate.
My main concern here is the time wasting where after 5 minutes of trying to get something to work it ends with a penalty. 5 minutes is one 16th of the game! either stop the clock or sort the scrums out.
I used to play halfback so I’ve seen scrum injuries up close and they’re not nice, bodies aren’t designed to twist like some of my front rower friends did. There must be a better alternative to penalising every little thing though?

Rugby union need to incorporate league scrums

I don’t think it’s stupid at all, it’s healthy to talk about these sorts of things or the sport goes stale. I admit it’s a huge change and in my defense the original title I submitted was “Should Rugby Union adopt League scrums?” It was a question posed with the intention to start a discussion. If you read my intro I say I don’t necessarily believe it when I say it.
|But something needs to be done about the time wasting around scrums. Whether it’s a change to the scrum itself or simply stopping the clock until the ball is put in to the scrum I don’t know but I’m sick of losing a quarter of the time allocated to a game to scrum resets

Rugby union need to incorporate league scrums

Please tell me you’re not talking about the likes of Kaino, SBW, Michael Jones, Julian Savea, and all of the others who often get brought up in this argument who are all born and bred New Zealanders?
If we were thinking along your lines NZ & Aus would be Maori vs Aboriginal as everyone else settled from another country at some point in time.

10 players every Kiwi wished were All Blacks

How on earth did Habana get left off this list? And John Eales, Victor Matfield and Stephen Larkham. Nice try, but to limit it to 10 players you’re opening yourself up to criticisms! Even 50-100 would be up for debate

10 players every Kiwi wished were All Blacks

I don’t think they’d let us have one if crowd numbers are anything to go by. I’d love a team based in Wellington though as I’ve just moved here from Sydney and I’m going to miss my NRL games

What more do the Kiwis need to do to get our love New Zealand?
