Sleiman, thoughts on our games eligibility shambles?

UAE to bid for 2021 Rugby League World Cup

I’d like to see him stay in Super League to be honest. The more open style of play lets us fans see the best of him.
Interested to hear your thoughts on Kevin Larroyer? He looks pretty good to me.

I still don’t know how Jayson Bukuya never gets a mention. Really underrated player

State of Origin 2015 early edition: Queensland’s back-row

1 Peter Sterling
2 Andrew Johns
3 Greg Alexander
4 Ben Ikin

Please Triple M, Channel Nine and Fox Sports keep these four and make your other analysts redundant.

The ‘voice’ of rugby league is off the pace

I think Nine should keep Origin. They do a good job building it up at the expense club football.
It would be good to see another channel get the rights and help build up clubs outside of the big 4 (Broncos, Bulldogs Roosters, Rabbitohs)

One word for Ray Hadley, Narcissist.

The ‘voice’ of rugby league is off the pace

I’ve never been a fan of him as a commentator.
I used to listen to his weekend show, like you for entertainment value, not anymore though. I remember him absolutely tearing in to Brian Smith either last season or the season before, tried to completely discredit him as a coach and as a human being. I decided I’d never listen to that show again after that.

The ‘voice’ of rugby league is off the pace

Some of the ex-players employed by not just Nine but FOX and Triple M to talk about our game are incredibly hard to listen to. The reasons being either, they cannot articulate their thoughts properly or they are more interested in enganging in childish banter. There are only 3 or 4 across the board that I enjoy listening to.

I wouldn’t pay much attention to the listing of each player’s height. I met Paul Gallen (listed at 5’11) a couple of years ago, I am 5’9 if I’m being generous to myself and there is no way he was taller than me.

I’m a big fan of Whitehead but I’m not sure how successful his transition to the NRL will be. In the right team he could be very good but he needs to be an integral part of the team. He isn’t going to be a 40 tackles 20 hitups player in the NRL.
He should be a really useful attacking weapon on last tackle options and the target for short balls on the edges.
He isn’t going to get Canberra on the front foot, but once they are on the front foot he will be a fantastic attacking option.
He would have been in my England side as well. Especially with the platform that Graham, Burgess and Hill were setting.

There is plenty of quality outside of the NRL. You’re team proves that. Although those players do have NRL contracts. Add in Super League, off contract players and the next generation, I think the NRL could have a maximum of 20 teams.
The only position world wide where the game is lacking depth is the halves. But I put that down to structures shackling these players rather than lack of talent

New player in Brisbane NRL expansion bid

What are the odds? I write this piece and Walmsley immediately re-signs with St Helens. Apparently he rejected some NRL offers.

McIlorum is a real good footballer, as well as an intimidating presence in the middle. England are blessed with some quality dummy halves at the moment. James Roby, Josh Hodgson, Daryl Clark and McIlorum. All are capable of being the test 9.

I personally don’t think Myler would be successful I the NRL. He is talented but very inconsistent. He’s been dropped multiple times in his career after being billed as the next big thing at the beginning of his career. They’d be better off giving Jack Littlejohn a chance to prove himself than flying Myler over.

My Brisbane expansion team made up entirely of players who are either off-contract at the end of this season or currently playing outside the NRL.

1 Michael Gordon (Sharks)
2 Daniel Vidot (Broncos)
3 Israel Folau (Rugby Union)
4 Willie Tonga (Super League)
5 Corey Thompson (Bulldogs)
6 James Maloney (Roosters)
7 Chris Sandow (Eels)
8 David Shillington (Raiders)
9 Nathan Friend (Warriors)
10 Nate Myles (Titans)
11 Chris Grevsmuhl (Rabbitohs)
12 Alex Glenn (Broncos)
13 Adam Docker (Panthers)

14 Lewis Brown (Panthers)
15 Ben Hannant (Cowboys)
16 Neville Costigan (Intrust Super Cup)
17 Dunamis Lui (Sea Eagles)

There’s an intentional Queensland flavour to the team. How would they go?

I hadn’t thought of Mose to be honest. That’s a good shout.

Any suggestions? Who should we be looking out for in the Queensland Cup? I don’t get a chance to watch it that often.

Although he’s only 31 I don’t think Ballin has too long left, he gets through that much work, he looks battered and bruised to me. I was just suggesting when the time does come to replace him, McIlorum would be a good replacement and bring a bit of a fear factor to the middle. He is a high-intensity player, a little bit wild and hits very hard. His tackles aren’t third-man wrestles, he tackles prop forwards hard and head on. Wigan play Warrington on Friday morning (Australian time) should be worth a watch, check him out for yourself.

Sydney is a complicated situation. I think the stadium plans have to be sorted before we even think of relocating or dropping Sydney clubs.

No, he is English. His grandfather is Scottish. He has switched allegiances many times, something our game needs to sort out.

I cant include some of the greats in my team because I simply haven’t seen enough footage of them. Langlands, Beetson, Fulton, Gasnier and many others miss out for that reason and that reason only, I am sure they were wonderful players.

I agree on most of your awards but just can’t on Tim Duncan as Defensive Player of the Year. I think with the league now being perimeter dominated, a perimeter defender is the most deserving. I’d go for Draymond Green.

My 2014-15 NBA award winners

Its something I have thought about but I’m not sure where he’s fit in the NRL. A coach would have to build a team around him and I don’t see an NRL coach that would be willing to do that.

I was always suspicious of Ryan Hall, his try scoring record was always inflated because most of them were unopposed walkovers on the wing. However he has always showed up well against Australia and New Zealand at test level and in grand finals.
Danny Brough has really improved over the last 3 or 4 years. Its a shame he has never been given a real run in the England side.
Look out for Catalans Dragons hooker Eloi Pelissier, so much fun to watch.

There is plenty of quality to be signed from Super League. I’ve only mentioned players specifically for Manly. I’ve left out some real gems like Zak Hardaker, John Bateman, Kevin Brown and Morgan Escare. I hope the floodgates don’t open but I’d like to see some players make the move.
