Unless you are in control of the whole process, trusting another stats is trusting another’s interpretation – regardless of how well each ‘marker’ is broken down and defined.

Data in rugby is about to get a turbo boost – and that’s a good thing!

👍
That’s why their called the Bafana Bafana Boks

Time wasting hurts more than just rugby's spectacle

They can go too far of course… there needs to be a variety of possible outcomes. Not just home runs and strike outs, as in fact they learnt in MLB.

Time wasting hurts more than just rugby's spectacle

why? my only complaints have been about the pedantic, poor refereeing and the time wasting. The game itself was one of best I’ve seen in a long while. Far from perfect obviously, ABs skills were poor and Boks tactics limited -but as a contest, enthralling.

Yeah timing is important, I think that’s why who beat who is often misleading when gauging a sides value or ranking.
Wallabies I’m sure benefitted from a couple of ‘hidings’ from the ABs – and have progressed well since then. I’m sure if they played again now the result may not necessarily be different, but the game, and definitely the margins would be.

How do you say 'vive la difference' in Australian?

a competitive sport, not a sport for entertainment
You must be naïve to the fact the every rule change in every code for the last 3 decades at least has been at the behest of either player safety or increasing the entertainment value.

Time wasting hurts more than just rugby's spectacle

The Super rugby Aotearoa final this year took 107 minutes to complete
actually it was less than that and included some lengthy TMO breaks (as with the French series, for which the TMO was rightly critised), not fake injury breaks.
Problem with a lot of the ‘injuries’ and shoe lace breaks of Bafana Bafana Boks is that the clock isn’t being stopped, robbing both their opponent and fans of the very thing they are there for – to watch or play Rugby

Time wasting hurts more than just rugby's spectacle

I enjoyed the test match overall and have no absolutely problem with the Boks kick fest.
But would you still watch the game if every team adopted that style. If every team played the style of the Wallabies, ABs, FRA or Fiji (bascially any style but the Boks) the game would be in a fairly good place, but seriously consider for a second every team doing to each other what the Boks did on Sat – ugly right, they’d be 100+ kicks, 0 offloads, 2 tacklers beaten, less passes than kicks, 200 run meters (from both sides), etc.
The ref was very average, not just how he managed the ‘injuries’ although this was poor, but his pedantic style (which both sides copped). Hopefully this was one he will review to prevent further such performances.

Shaping to be a great EYOT (possibly as there wasn’t one last my interest has increased)
NZ v FRA and both Boks and Wallabies facing Eng.
Should the Boks lose 2 of their 3 games, you’d have to think some serious pressure would be on.

Springboks make two enforced changes for final TRC Test but Kolbe falls short

So it’ll be Bafana Bafana Boks again… what’s the chances of Nienaber being dropped if they get a decent score put on them… in their a viable replacement?

Springboks make two enforced changes for final TRC Test but Kolbe falls short

I like the composure, and the ruthlessness. I’d hate to be one that builds them up only to see them fail (its happened a few to many times) but they seem to have a great mixture of youth and experience at the moment. Without a bad run of injuries and overall upward trend, they could be a real handful come WC.

Wallabies pre-dawn: Why learning from the Townsville win is another important step

“…there is no doubt we delivered a performance worthy of a victory,” said coach Jacques Nienaber
When fans coach… sounding more and more like a guy out of his depth and with a limited future.

Springboks make two enforced changes for final TRC Test but Kolbe falls short

This RC has delivered a bit of a wakeup call for Bafana Bafana Boks and the hapless Argies.
Both sides will be looking to salvage some pride and finish with a win – without one at least one of those coaches will be feeling some real heat, if not a few of the players.

Deans, in hindsight was culturally naive Fionn. He assumed a passion or a cultural support that does not exist in the OZ game.
Here I thought he was a coach of a Rugby team not an activist trying to overcome social mores and the establishment.

Hard to maintain an inferiority complex while winning far more.

How do you say 'vive la difference' in Australian?

Surely you have to expect high expectations, Boks haven’t lived up to the hype. But at some point it’s true of all sides, (if the AB’s don’t put 20+ on a side they are highly criticized) unfortunately for the Boks their fall from the top came very quickly (just 5 games as #1 and lost the ranking without playing a side in the top 5).
Some of their ‘injury’ tactics have gone beyond what most find reasonable, their losses might be better received without this in their game.

How do you say 'vive la difference' in Australian?

Argies haven’t really shown anything this year to suggest that they are capable of beating any of the sides regardless of what day it is. It’s a shame for them that they haven’t kicked on from the great tournament that had last year. They have had, by far the worst itinerary of any of the sides.
The ABs and Wallabies should be pretty happy with how their sides have progressed – both building depth nicely, providing genuine competition within the squads all the while getting wins along the way. ABs wrapping up the comp with a game in hand is a decent accomplishment – especially after looking far from convincing winning it last year.
But Bafana Bafana Boks have provided the biggest surprise, I’d suggest all the peripheral criticism of their incessant kicking and ‘injury’ breaks would be far less abundant had they managed to win the RC, or at least be in the hunt.
Argies and Boks need a big finish, without which this years RC has been an abject failure.

You think criticism of the Boks results or ‘injury’ tactics is unwarranted?

How do you say 'vive la difference' in Australian?

Wobblies Wallabies should be pretty content with how they a tracking.
More and more pieces of their puzzle are coming together. There is genuine competition for almost every position and winning while playing below potential is often a sign of a good side. If they can finish this year unbeaten it would be an epic season for them.

Wallabies pre-dawn: Why learning from the Townsville win is another important step

Seesh… I’d like to think that performance was an outlier in his career, one he’ll take lessons from for the future. I’d hate to see that become his standard of officiating.

Very poor form…

SANZAAR and RA apologise to Argentina after Ledesma snaps over TRC photo snub

fair to say you got a little carried away with how the Boks were trending…
fair enough, they had been very poor.

SA View: Heartbreak in the 100th as Boks 'set the table, kill the calf and forget to eat'

Good article… agree with most if not all of it.

The Boks and All Blacks should try again

Actually no, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere ABs were poor in a number of areas, not least handling and applying variety.
Boks too contributed with some questionable tactics, including those I’ve mentioned above.
Seems you’re of the opinion that the ref performance was in no way to blame – you’ll easily find many that disagree, neutrals included, on this site alone.

Well if the boots fit…
All Blacks were very poor, in a lot of areas on Sat, some of the Bafana Bafana Boks tactics questionable, combined with a poor ref performance made for a terrible spectacle.
