First XI, XIII, XV quality armchair sportsman. Sometimes, I make comments that may be construed as being critical of the Panthers NRL team or organisation more broadly. None of that is intended to cause offence (as is the case with any other club, player, team, organisation that may or may not be the subject of a discussion thread on this site). I acknowledge the special place in the history of the universe of the Penrith Panthers NRL club, and the special peculiarities of their passionate support base. If anything I've said in the past, present or may say in the future is/was construed as personal criticism, I state that it is not intended to be so.

I would respond with something glib like ‘aren’t they all Penrith juniors?’, but I’d hate to break the rules twice in one day.

Bulldogs grab moral victory, but Melbourne take the two points as Storm overcome Foxx hat trick in comeback win

I was watching the game, and thinking that Tracey is about the most boring player to watch, but absolutely solid as a rock. In a strange way, he reminds me of Mitch Aubersson. I know Mitch was primarily a forward, but, similarly, he’s just that bloke that won’t really win you too many games, but he’ll never lose you one, either. Thought he had a cracking game, and like you, I think it would be hard to drop him for Taafe.

Sorry, I forgot the rules. Nothing about the Panthers can be criticized even in a light-hearted way over coffee on a Saturday morning.
I had thought the post was more about the recent talent heading south from Wests to Storm.
I didn’t mean to cast shade on the flawless organisation that is the Panthers, and you can be sure I consider myself suitably chastened.
I’ll refrain from poor attempts at humour that obliquely and indirectly reference a club that is, as we all get reminded by you so often, beyond reproach and responsible for anything good that has ever happened ever.

Lighten up, mate. Some of us come here for a laugh and a bit of respectful banter.

I think the Wests Tigers get the chocolates for the development (and subsequent release) of this talented forward. Great breeding ground for future Melbourne talent.

But zero tries, TB. Ze-ro. Nada. Nix. Zilch.

In a close game, that was the difference.

On his pay, surely he should be averaging about 12 tries a game. The Dally M is a farce.

If he wants to silence the critics, he might want to consider taking up goal kicking duties. He should probably have a chop at curing cancer, too.

Dragons agree to release Lomax on huge coin at the end of the year…
Schuster then magically appears on the market, reportedly on similar money.
What a week.

NRL News: Sea Eagles show Schuster the door, Eels encounter 'market value' hitch in Lomax deal, Reynolds eyes early return

Watching the replay, looked to me like Martin was heavily inconvenienced by his shoulder. Often running with his arm hanging limp by his side.
Along with many others, I was disappointed too to see Jennings on the field. Say what you want about the civil vs the criminal standard of proof, but in addition to the proven facts, it was also found that Jennings deliberately hid assets to avoid paying the judgement. He could easily afford it. I can’t stand in too many glass houses, because the Broncos signed Lodge, but i can’t imagine too many Roosters fans were cheering his return. Don’t know if winning is worth that.

NRL Round 5 Talking Points: For a few clubs it’s getting late early, Jennings shouldn't be in league let alone celebrated

True, but that’s not how Robbo rolls. See the case of Leniu, S.
No doubt in Dom’s defence, him and his mates coathanger each other all the time. He didn’t realise it was a problem. Maybe him and Blake can sort it out in the carpark, the Rooster way…

Young send-off 'over the top', Radley sin-bin 'ridiculous' says Robbo as Roosters reduced to 11 on nightmare night

Just because Taafe says he was hit flush on the scone doesn’t mean Dom actually hit him flush on the scone. There’s a process…

'Duty to bend' debate over Walsh hit overshadows 'absolute genius' Cleary torturing Broncos in statement Panthers win

I dunno. If I were into conspiracies, and I occasionally am, my spidey senses would be tingling here ..

The real story here is drug abusing cross gender pugilism enthusiast M Jennings returning to play at the highest level to much back-slapping and glorious pageantry.

Mitchell was out of line, no doubt. But aren’t we burying the lead here? Jennings is a waaaay bigger story, surely.

NRL News: Jennings can 're-write story' as Robbo backs 2024 NRL return, Abdo scalds Latrell

Played centre or FB in QCup. Until Walsh exploded, I always expected him to be the long term FB. I’m glad he’s coming good on the centres. He could be a less grubby Hodges.

Guido Hatzis is dusting off his kit bag as we speak…

No.1 gun in NRL: Reece is the word at Broncos as star fullback rips Rabbitohs to shreds with lightning quick attack

Everything about that play was top shelf… Except that it was sooo early in the tackle count.
I don’t have hardly any hair as it is. I don’t need that stress in my life ..

No.1 gun in NRL: Reece is the word at Broncos as star fullback rips Rabbitohs to shreds with lightning quick attack

Broncos have a lot of work to do, in my view.
Defence on the edges was often poor, particularly young Riki. When he’s on, I love to watch him, but I was concerned by a couple of efforts last night leading to points. Hetherington had feet for hands, but I hope that is just a blip….
Broncos are playing exciting football, but in the first half, they just looked so impatient. At 12 all, we finally went back to basics, et voila, the system worked again.
Willison needs to get blooded sooner rather than later. Marty is a decent rotation player, but Willison is the business…
The Cobbo/Mariner combo could be special…

Read the transcript of the submissions. I thought it made sense.

'I am really sorry': Leniu cops HUGE ban as NRL judiciary hands down verdict for ‘monkey’ racial abuse at Mam

Wanting to apologise in person is the right thing to do. But nothing Leniu has done up until this point would suggest this was his idea.

Shock twist in racism saga as Mam responds to Leniu's apology for monkey taunt

Dunno, but I’m sure someone should look at the calender, and make the suspension long enough to cover both the trip to Suncorp, and the next Indigenous Round. Work back from there, at the very least.

NRL News: Leniu pleads guilty to monkey racial slur, apologises to Mam - 'I said the word but I didn't mean it in a racist way'

Spencer Leniu after the whistle, “It’s all just fun and games out on the field”.

I think that’s called the ‘Fletcher’ defence.

'NRL better deal with this s--t', says Latrell: Mam accuses Leniu of 'monkey' racial slur as Roosters outmuscle Broncos

I think he’s great injury cover for an edge backrower. But I’d take some convincing before he starts training with the top 30 squad regularly…
I’ve got him in the ‘kerosene lantern’ class. Great to have if the lights go out, but there’s always a chance it’ll burn down the house if used on the reg…

“I have no doubt we were on the cusp of turning it around,” he told the Herald.

I think that’s the rub. Publicly, Mr Hagipantelis has been riding that cusp for a looooong time.

Be interesting to see what the new jersey looks like.
