If you insist on looking at it from the perspective of the unavoidable reality of the situation then yes you are right.

Also to me I think they looked a better team with Caleb Muntz.

COMPLETE RWC QF teams: Dupont returns, Boks make HUGE halves call, Borthwick picks his No.10, Semi back for Fiji

JN,
In order, my preference for who should win. (i) Fiji, (2) NZ, (3) SA, (4) ARG.
I know Ireland is rightly deserving of “it’s our time”. The French are overdue to win a final and as hosts, it would make for an unforgettable atmosphere. But what can I say? I am for the Southern Hemisphere, so an all-Southern Hemisphere semi-final for me, then one of the four as champions.
Fiji for watching their joy as they play the game as intended. For bar, the opposition fans, watching the whole world getting behind them. Every one of them with a front-row seat streamed into their lounge rooms, showcasing why this is the game played in heaven.
For the massive kick up the collective “derrieres” of World Rugby. Watching the final penny drop that, if their aspiration is truly for a world game, they must put their money where their “bouches” are and support ALL TIERS of rugby.
For watching World Rugby crying into their “la tasse’s” filled with Cristal champagne as they watch worldwide news coverage of one of the greatest David versus Goliath stories on display. Lamenting the lost rivers of TV rights “le dollars”, from all these past years.
For the chance to watch the Poms lose the quarter final and to hear Farrel in the post-match interview reiterate the “le mots” of Courtney Lawes ” …at times, they made us look silly.”
New Zealand
For they are our ANZAC brothers. Enoung said.
South Africa
For reminding people that, yes there is another way to play the game that can be equally as compelling. Watching a freight train of impossibly large immovable objects bludgeon an opposition into submission with a sublime display of brutal elegance.
For they are also Southern Hemisphere.
Argentina
For watching the South American version of the French “schwa de vivre” and uncompressing front foot play.
For they are Southern Hemisphere.
For the chorus of the ROAR posters saying aren’t you the ‘would you just shut already guy” who wouldn’t quit blabbing “no guys trust me the Wallabies will win the RWC.. …..
.

Ah, the curse of we the passionate supporter. We feel it viscerally at our core. It could be worse though. We could be like HiKa and be Reds supporters as well. Hang on a minute, I support the Force…. damit….

Jones to return to Australia as Japanese reports link Wallabies coach as favourite to take over Brave Blossoms

AA,

You are right. My comment does say more about me than anyone else. Or rather it should. I was trying to express the way I feel about using the word hate in this context and what that means to me. [insert abject failure to do so]

I can see how that may not be clear to others and seem as though I am psychoanalysing people and casting some sort of moral judgment. Although to be fair I was coming from the perspective of the well-known psychological school of thought of Master Yoda. I stand corrected, I should have stuck with Freud and Jung. Apologies again – my attempt at humor which undoubtedly will land worse than a dead cat bounce.

More seriously I acknowledge that some may hate Eddie, while some are so frustrated that it leads to anger and that’s ok.

Cheers, Go well.

Spiro,

So basically, Georgia versus Fiji was the most enthralling post-80-minute last play of the day, RWC match. A loss by mere cm’s difference in speed. A rollercoaster for Wallabies fans who dared to dream that the quarter-final door was still ajar…

Portugal. “hold my beer”

SPIRO ZAVOS: Portugal prove Cup critics arguing against the true spirit of rugby, what's sparked Ireland's rise as contender

FB,

I genuinely don’t understand your comment. I’m not the sharpest knife in the draw.

Do mean that stranger things can happen, and it can be done?

That Rassie Erasmus taking on the Boks at their lowest ebb and performing the miraculous 18-month “Chasing the Sun documentary” turnaround that not only won a World Cup but moved a nation forward in a way perhaps not seen since Mandela?

or that Rassie is a just as divisive and polarising a character as Eddie and that is no impediment to success?

or some higher level of interpretation beyond my pay grade. Which I gotta say is pretty low.

Not an unreasonable conclusion. But Eddie and RA have no capital to spend on this all too apparent soft shoe shuffle and obfuscation. Perhaps the penguins from Madagascar are running the show…..” you didn’t see anything”

WP,

I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately, you’re not wrong, I agree a lot of people do hate Eddie, which saddens me.

Hate is a very strong emotion and one that should have no place with regard to a man who, I believe, is acting in good faith in trying to do his job. No matter how bad a ‘job’ he is doing.

What is the fear that leads to this hate? Are we so fearful of the Wallabies dropping to tier two or three status that the world might end?

People should look around at real circumstances that are happening in the world where hate may be justified. But for me, this is not one of them.

As Yoda says;

“Hate is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

How do we retain our young talent and create pathways when the that pathway is to leave rugby and play league then be paid big dollars to come back past the peak of your career?

How many juniors players could we secure between now and 2027 on what we are paying Suaali and Creighton alone???

Besieged Wallabies throw lucrative deal at Crichton in bid to lure Roosters star back to rugby - with a Super twist

Tony,
“It’s perhaps time to accept that while the world rankings aren’t highly thought of by rugby insiders and coaches, that doesn’t mean they’re false”
I disagree; my fantasy rugby results are a far better correlation to the ranking of Australian rugby. I am in the top 50 out 2,200 of Australian players in the tier two SuperBru competition and 130,000th place in the tier one World Rubgy Fantasy competition.

Good, the bad, the Eddie: Rats and possums, Hoops 'like the ex being MC at your wedding' and an orgy of apologies

slight correct, I meant, Wales 50/22, penalty 13-6.

Gone in six-and-a-half minutes: where the Wallabies RWC campaign got away from them

BK,
So basically we thought our lowest ebb was not taking the points in front of the posts to take us to 10-9. Then almost worst line out in living memory. Wales 50/22, penalty 13-9.
Second half performance says “hold my beer”.

Gone in six-and-a-half minutes: where the Wallabies RWC campaign got away from them

I try to be as positive as possible but

“ …no one remembers semi-finalists.”

But everyone will remember the first time we failed to make the quarter finals with both our biggest losing margin in a RWC and against Wales.

Eddie Jones should be celebrated not booed: Why the worst thing RA could do is sack the Wallabies coach

Congratulations to Wales.
My only consolation was at ten minutes to go when Sean Maloney, asked Morgan T is there anyway we can still qualify and go through to the quarter finals? At least I knew I was the second to last person in Australia to put my rose coloured glasses down.

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

CB. The tunnel maybe long, very long, the flickering pilot light all but out. However, for the tragic like myself, we are sustained by our eternal belief of how sweet it will be when when it blazes again.

Gatland's grenade: 'I'm a very loyal person - I'm not sure Eddie has always had the same philosophy'

CB,

You may have to stop making reasonable points or be at risk of being suspended from the board.

ATW,
Arr the never ending roller coaster,
Anointed Saviour, lose to SA and Arg, calamity ensues, storm the barricades, reasonable 40 mins here and there against the AB’s, great plan, genius for prompting Gordon, thrashed by France, who thought hiring this media spinning, narciss was a good idea?, Georgia, ok I don’t agree with all his quixotic decisions by look see we are building, hmmm maybe the Suli, Donno experiment might even be have been the right call. Fiji – I told you Eddie would take us from Tier two to tier 3. Is it too late to get another coach before the Wales game!

The only constant is this constant roller coaster will continue unabated.

Gatland's grenade: 'I'm a very loyal person - I'm not sure Eddie has always had the same philosophy'

Fair enough.

Gatland's grenade: 'I'm a very loyal person - I'm not sure Eddie has always had the same philosophy'

Bobby,

You make some excellent points, especially that every test match is important. Though sometimes a young, unproven, or older untested player merits a go.

Gatland's grenade: 'I'm a very loyal person - I'm not sure Eddie has always had the same philosophy'

JB,

Notwithstanding that, all opinions on the Roar are as valid as any other, given that, you know, they are opinions.

You present an empirically undeniable mathematical analysis—an elegant thesis of logic.

I would also postulate the Venn diagram of people who do 180-degree flips on players after one match or error and then back again after the next, and for those who would never admit that they do, it is almost a perfect circle.

Gatland's grenade: 'I'm a very loyal person - I'm not sure Eddie has always had the same philosophy'

Bot,
“the negativity towards Eddie is super tiring.”
Agreed.

Gatland's grenade: 'I'm a very loyal person - I'm not sure Eddie has always had the same philosophy'

Blik,

I mostly agree, except that Gordon is going backward. He is a young ten experiencing the ups and downs as he improves. He has many parts of his game to work on but is nowhere near his ceiling. I would accept he has been thrust forward a bit early and needs more mentorship as part of his development. However, his resilience and fearlessness on the field are reflective of his mindset off it. His accelerated development won’t ‘break’ him as many believe.

Dear wise and all-knowing Roarers,
This is a message board for rugby enthusiasts (*tragics) to express their opinions, debate and discuss issues and vent their frustrations. That is as it should be.
I will stay positive, support our team, and save the postmortems until after the tournament ends.
Concerning taking six years to build a winning team for the next RWC. My outlook for the future is this. The core of that team is playing right now with many that will be undeniably considered world-class by 2025 versus the BiLs tour.
Consider this. Bundi Aki is in the best form of his career and arguably the best centre in the tournament. In 2025, when we face the BiLs. Only Koroibete and Skelton will be the same age.
Playing at this tournament, except Kerevi who will still be younger than Bundi Aki. The rest will be under 30, Bell, Tupou, Frost, Hooper, McReight, Gleeson, Valentini, McDermont, Fines-Leleiwasa, Gordon, Petaia, Kellaway, Nawaqanitawase, Jorgenson, Perese. I would add back in Ikitau, Lynagh and R. Lonergan
At RWC in 2027. Marika and Wil drop out, and Kerevi is still only the same age as Bundi. ALL THE REST WILL BE UNDER 30 except Fines-Leleiwasa though he will still younger than Kerevi.
However, let’s focus on the here and now, Wales.
Go Wallabies!

'People smell blood': Eddie says Wallabies had to change ahead of World Cup ... even if it costs him his job

RN: All true enough.

I have said I need the nine planets to align for me to be right. So far they have, just in reverse order so not looking so good for my prediction. I have lots of humble pie on standby for Monday’s breakfast. I believe, nay I must believe it can still be done.
