Wallabies CONFIRMED: Gordon benched as Eddie banks on Ben Donaldson, star returns for do-or-die RWC clash

Post, 8th July 2021 @ 10.26pm : QED goes all in and says Australia will win the RWC.

I added the caveat; quote “there should be no To’omua, James O’Connor or [cue outrage] Michael Hooper, or at best as a bench/squad player.”

Obviously, they must beat Wales to progress to the quarter-finals.

I believe they can.

Go Wallabies

Cec,

Just found this on YouTube

The defence rests your honour

Greatest XV: 'Best player I've seen' - Australia's magnificent 7, despised by All Blacks and cherished by Eddie

Markus

When a player makes others around him better and who’s deeds inspires a team to greater heights, David Pocock sits comfortably among the few that can.

Greatest XV: 'Best player I've seen' - Australia's magnificent 7, despised by All Blacks and cherished by Eddie

Gentlemen I disagree.

George’s Smith may be the greatest 7 ever or even the best player many have ever seen. But that’s across his whole career. This list compares what players have done at World Cups.

Therefore David Pocock gets my vote.

2011 almost universally agreed that he almost single handedly helps us beat the Boks to get into a semifinal.

2015 Arguably the best player at the tournament. Again we would not have made the final without his repeated game changing impact across the tournament.

2019 Has the longevity to make a third World Cup although admittedly not at his peak.

After 2011/2015 he had in absolute terms the most turnovers of any player at a RWC. He had at that stage played in two where McCaw had plaid in 3.

With respect to average tackles made per match, he was equal first with Dusautoir on 12.5. Next was Skulk Burger on 10.4 and McCaw on 10.2.

“They’re a really good team now. They’ve got some phenomenal athletes and they showed it today. One-on-one they made us look silly at times.“

How much more credit do you need to give after saying the other side made us look silly?

Fair enough. Just another idea to add to the debate.

Fair enough. Drafts day can grow into a pretty high-profile event as seen in the US. Just an idea that might help raise the profile of club rugby and strengthen the link/ connection of club rugby to the NRC teams.

It looks like both Tate and Carter had very big spanners.

'Butch defence, Larkham glide': What Eddie sees in Test rookie as Wallabies make SEVEN changes

SS,

You may be right.

There are longer gaps between games this world cup. The thought process may be young fit 20-year-olds can back up.

So it is possible that Eddie plays his best 23 for France, Georgia, Fiji, and Wales and then rests them for Portugal.

Eddie is testing my faith but I still believe

WILL GENIA: Why Eddie had to choose between Nic and Quade, moment I felt Hoops was done, hardest done by duo

Question
If Eddie is selecting his LionsTour/2027 RWC squad, where is Corey Toole?

WILL GENIA: Why Eddie had to choose between Nic and Quade, moment I felt Hoops was done, hardest done by duo

Vale Michael Hooper.
May we ask for one last contribution to Australian rugby though? Do you have time for some blood donations of your green and gold blood for the team?
Ryan Lonergan,
Sorry, the squad has no room for a specialist tackle bag holder. Besides, your speed to the breakdown and fast accurate past in unsettling for our fly-halfs.
Peter Samu,
Mate my heart goes out to you, I hear you have a severe case of Scott Fardy disease ‘persona non grata-itis’. I’m afraid it’s terminal.

WILL GENIA: Why Eddie had to choose between Nic and Quade, moment I felt Hoops was done, hardest done by duo

If Ikitau makes it back, Jordy moves to the bench and that is our RWC first choice 11-15. But could Tate and Carter throw a spanner in the works for 9 and 10? Hmmm……..

PIS,

Much to the shock to some Roarers, it’s a pretty safe bet that any coach of a top 10 ranked international team knows more about how to win at the elite than us.

Nuance,

I have never seen a backline put 30+ points on another team, let alone the All Blacks without a pack that has done the hard yards up front.

So my glass half full is:

Turn up, switch on, get it done.

Go Wallabies !

James,

Totally agree with you on this one.

Good points. Petaia, Wright, Kellaway, Campbell are all better 15’s than Donaldson. But who in the 23 covers 10 if your starting 10 goes down?

Hi Jed,

Obviously your opinion is as valid as mine. If I was able to offer my advice to Eddie. He would tell me , “when I want your opinion I will give it you”.

I disagree with you with respect to Mark N.

You can’t ‘coach speed, size’ and (*cough X-factor). Nothwithstanding his defensive lapses he has the capability to score two or more tries for every try he let’s in. Therefore he is a better game breaking wing than Kellaway or Wright. He also covers FB if both Petaia and Donaldson go down. Daugunu (wing/13) ? His electric pace and side step are not what they were. In my 23, he is covered by a Petaia Donaldson reshuffe.

Long shots. A fit Jorgenson (wing/FB). He has that indefineable assuredness that belies his lack of experince. A ladder is required to see his ceiling. A fit Toole (wing) ? He is only a specialist wing and yes small, but dam he’s fast. He could be our Jason Robinson or Shane William’s.

Finally unless Suliasi – ‘Darryl Kerrigan’, “tell’m he is dreaming”, Eddie Jones, special project, “Hail Mary” – Vunivalu, miraculously materialises out of thin air. ;-). Mark N is a lock for the 23, if not starting.

I’m equivical on Holloway. I’m interested in who you would replce him with.

Seru Uru, T Hooper, Gleeson or Hanigan? However, Eddie has Holloway in his leadership group. Barring injury or career limiting performances in the RC/B Cup, he isn’t going anywhere.
