I know this is a bit of a devisive issue, but of those who don’t think it work, how many actually attended. For me sitting is a train with fans from PG, MC, BR, SFC both young and old having a discussion on the game, how their club is going etc, makes it all worth while. Even walking around the city and being stopped by fans from another visiting club and talking about a game as neutrals because we took the time to go was great as well. For us a great experience and we are already building our travelling group for 2025

Is the A-Leagues' Unite Round worth persisting with next season?

So 3 of us travelled down by car from Brisbane for the weekend. We went Thursday and home Monday. We also knew of other groups heading down and caught up with a lot while there. Friday night we took the free train to Parramatta to watch the 2 games as neutral football fans. Great to see Commbank stadium. Security and ushers were great and nowhere near the over bearing Suncorp staff. 2 Great games, but let down by the non attendance of the local supporters, who it has been rumoured because their team was not the “home” team decided not to attend. The 5.30pm start was hard on working locals to get to the game.
On Saturday we headed to Leichhardt to watch Canberra women take on Adelaide another enjoyable game, different crowd but lots of comradary between supports. Roar and Jets were the next game with a good number of fans from the first game staying to watch.
On Sunday we went to Alliance first to watch the Women SFC v WU a large attendance of SFC Supporters who mostly left after their game. The Roar v Jets men’s game had a bit of everything in pouring Rain. The Travelling Den performed possibly the best of any active support group of the games we went to. However the RBB did well on Friday night.
CAN IT BE IMPROVED – Yes and hopefully the powers that be will listen.
1) The whole stadium should be GA.
2) Season Ticket Holders should be given a special price (I know there was a pre sale price, but as low as possible. Remember empty seats don’t make any money, so a small price will bring in something and then food and beverage will bring in more as well.
3) Who thought it was a great Idea to put active support for certain games in the corner – Nobody puts the Den in the Corner and they took over the vacant Active Support area vacated by the SFC Womens fans. It is simple there is a large break between games give the first team of active support 1/2 hour to celebrate and leave and the next team active support take over. There is nothing worse than a empty area behind the goal when it could be filled with active support.
4) Travelling clubs should get behind supporters and try and work out deals on hotel and travel. – Even interaction with the teams.
5) There needs to be a active support area set up in the city where supporters can go and watch the game. Even if the games are on replay rotation, along with food trucks etc.
6) Hotels, even those who are not in the A-Leagues preferred hotels should be made aware of the competition so at least have something available for them to give to their guests to spread the word,

So we have already started building our group for next season, hopefully we will tripple our numbers and if everyone does that this could be huge.

New Ladder has MV in 2nd spot

After historic defeat, where to now for the beleaguered Brisbane Roar?

Waz just a few points. It is unusual for Kaz and Zac to go missing, I asked where they were and was told Busy. Appears that was right, they were lining up their ducks (Which they should have done before jumping to name Trani as interim coach)
But on some of your points (These have not be relayed to fans who deserve better)
Injuries last I checked and may not be entirely accurate 14 of our 27 players are either injured or coming back from injury some coming back can’t play 90+ minutes – (There is an in depth review into why this has happened underway now)
Training Grounds – Brendale will be handed over in the next week or so but won’t be ready for this season as more work needs to be done and will be as originally designed (Despite Fongs suggestion it was for the men) for Women and Youth, funding was given to Moreton Council on that basis. The new management have found in our climate they need a mix of fields to train at and are are looking at possibly 3 venues for men to train at, so the fields don’t get overused.
I am led to believe the club has either signed a nr 9 and a back (One of the hardest positions to fill a good backs are hard to find) but they have to wait till he Window is open.
Unfortunately often in my position I am often aware of things that the club should be addressing directly to supporters. This is why I get caught up in supporting the club when others (Often just a small but vocal group) believe otherwise.
But new year, New Coach and I will continue to push Kaz and Zac to be more open. They are 1000% better than Fong and at this stage have been more open and truthful than the previous manager. We live in hope.

I believe Strikers are only a sub tenant of the YMCA and work is going on behind the scenes to get something done.

After historic defeat, where to now for the beleaguered Brisbane Roar?

Despite popular opinion very few clubs actually have Marquee players last I checked there was possible 2 across the league.

Been a difficult time for us Roar supporters. Last season under Moon was well below all our expectations. His interim replace was further below what we expect also.

We need to consider in the first 10 rounds we had 4 wins, 2 draws and 4 Losses (Our last 2 being our worst) however player after player went down with injury – Hore, Brown, Hingert (Came back quick) Reardon, Berenguer (just got back), Burke-Gilroy, Majok, Markovski (Just got back), Lofthouse (Came back early) Armiento (Back too early), Parsons (Back as well) So 11 of the 23 players have been out injured or carrying an injury.
We have had to make a makeshift understand back line. –
The owners continue to put money into the club (Despite concerns they don’t make anything out of the club) each year many millions, bills and players are paid. More money has gone into the women’s team than ever before. The club is close to filling a couple of important positions once the transfer window opens.
As a member of the RSF committee (These are my views only) the Committee and the club have been targeted in recent days, I understand the frustration of supporters, but turning on the club and the RSF (All volunteers who put time in freely) when there have been early signs of good things to come, is premature. 2 really bad results does not a season make. It is a warning sign and if not acted upon would be a disaster for our season. I personally know of the good work going on in the background on the administration side, More sponsors and sponsors who had deserted the club for good reason are coming back, Training facilities are being sorted (Maybe not this year but will be for next season).
The team needs to regroup and their response to their loss will be the standard for the rest of the season, Saturday night will see.

I have finally had some time to catch up and read this article. Lots of good points. I have also read the comments.
A couple of issues I have is how Roar fans (Unless they have inside contacts) often believe Roar have let players go.
Recent examples Eli Adams went for trials overseas, returned to Roar and immediately slotted into the team. He was offered a contract, wanted more and then said no and went off to Melbourne on similar money to what the Roar was offering, except at Victory despite their poor season hardly got a run.
Alex Parsons also was touted to be the next big thing. First season did well, 2nd Season dropped off, but was offered a contract, he and his agent wanted more and refused the contract, he then signed with SFC only to find himself sitting on the bench and not doing anything.
I know the Roar talked to several coaches hoping to get them, but were unable to brake down the barriers of returning to Australia. Ross still has contacts ang business in Qld. He has not had the position of head coach and therefore I think his first gig will see a different Ross Aloisi, Having spoken to him as a Roar Supporter in Adelaide after a game, he seemed to have a love of Qld and the Roar and I believe he sees it as unfinished business. We have had coached without passion in recent years, perhaps the Roar need that bit of “mongerel” to get out strikers at least have shots. – I also know that Ross is spending time at the NPL games (Despite the view Roar is Running 2 Academy teams) checking on the upcoming tallent. – I will be very happy to be right, but devestated to be wrong.

Brisbane’s South Australian influence grows with Ross Aloisi appointment, but not everyone's a fan of the move

SFC and WSW was a great game, unfortunately for wanderers fans they thought they had it won at half time and did not realise there was more to play for.
But despite a great game of football, the images on the news is more about Ninkovic going in the the SFC dressing room and congratulating the players only to be thrown out by who knows who or why. Some of the vision I saw the players were happy to take his congratulations. Nothing like kicking an own goal. Poor form on SFC part. Even the Leagues Flag Bearer Keep Up ran the story. How dumb can they get.

Two cracking A-League finals are a reminder of what the APL should be marketing

Being a Roar supporter and very in the Supporters Federation with regular discussions with the Club and occassionally with the APL. I see several problems, and some don’t see attendance as a major problem. But without attendance increase owners have their hands in their pockets to keep the clubs afloat. Without increase attendance any club will never become a opportunity for takeover or buyout, who would buy a basket case. Not sure what happens with other clubs, but promotion of games at Roar seems to come own to Free tickets to grass roots clubs, emails to member. If you are not on their list then noone knows the game is on. Moving out to Redcliffe was a financial decision which has paid off, despite the low numbers, because supporters won’t travel, yet massive promotion of the new NRL team at the same venue saw it sell out last weekend, despite wet conditions. Roar supporters said move back to Suncorp, but the first 2 games of the season did not see that many more turn up, infact around 5000 below the old average crowd numbers.
We could take a few lessons from the NRL and we could also Learn from the AFL both who seem to do great promotions. We need promotion to those who play and follow the game at club land, build your numbers from those who know the game.
The APL need to promote hero’s like Irankunda – I am sure each club would have one. – I suggested to the Roar they make this weekend game Jay O’Shea day and promote it as St Patricks, seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

Where do we find the positives from an A-League season not going to plan?

They are moving closer to Brisbane to the newly developed training centre at Brendale with the Women and the Academy. Plans are well underway for this to happen, supposedly in the New Year for the Men after the Women have settled in and then the Academy.
The venue will be used for the Womens World cup in 2023 and around $22m is set aside for it.
There is also some talk of a move to a stadium near the city (Not Perry Park) in the not too distant future
