The loss of Lolesio is a big one, fingers crossed it’s not a big injury, and now my mind jumps to who on earth comes into replace him. The Brumbies for all their great play and management are quite short and young in depth at 10 after him. Reesjan Pasitoa able to be a bench option? Looks solid at the very least. Here’s hoping BK can manage the game and having front foot ball, a solid 9 and centre pairing will be a bonus for his development and sure to ease the nerves. On that note I’m hoping Simone does not become the main distributor, but rather he and BK share the duties, would also like to see Banks become a more consistent distributor as I feel that will help the team and his WB chances.

Brumbies deny Waratahs in thriller

Hi Nick, great article!
I think personally (Am a forward – so am biased) the strength of the wallabies over the years will have to come from the forward pack. These up and coming 10s (Harrison, Lolesio and Lucas if he’s in the country) will likely crumble at an international level without a good pack and a reliable one at that, for me building from the ground up starts with the forwards and a national wide commitment to set-piece dominance. The talented backs will likely always be there, and they sure won’t be worth the contracts they are on if they can’t get the ball in the first place (E.g. Suliasi Vunivalu).
I’m a passionate rugby fan and a marketing/economics student who has actually just done a report on how Rugby Australia can build fan loyalty over the next few years. Would love to forward it onto to you for your thoughts on the strategies outlined and whether they could work from a real-life rugby-based point of view rather than a purely theoretical marketing point of view (My teachers).

Why Dave Rennie will have to build his Wallabies from the ground up

Great article! As even a forward myself, I cannot see why even the players least expected of to have skills (i.e front rowers) don’t have great skill level at a national level. It seems to me that a forward pack with skills is not only a dynamic threat but also takes pressure off the playmakers every phase. My School team(obviously not comparable to international level but it’s more the principle) was quite successful using a 3 pronged pod system with a diamond shaped formation, but where we differed is that the flanker and hooker were the at the front of each formation and either took them selves or had an option left and right. The emphasis is not to have an attacking move each play but rather keep possession and the go forward momentum whilst the conniving backs cook up a play. And given we weren’t the biggest team, we had to rely on this and a wider range of skills, so we were successful on the basis that even the 2 could throw a pass outwide.
I know it’s a different scenario but it seems alot could come about from an increase in skill, and thus responsibility among the forwards and therefore less pressure on to the backs to be a mercurial attacking threat every phase.
I know schoolboy level is obviously a different kettle of fish to test level but again it’s the principle.
regarding Beale it seems to me that he’s obviously a different player static compared to running onto the ball in attack. Is this something he loses his mojo on every now and then, and surely the likes of larkham can coach him to do this consistently ? Something as simple as running onto the ball and not being static is really something you pick up and attach to your game with ease, for some reason the WB’s seem to fall off in this area no? Just my two cents, loved the article!

Why the Wallabies' Plan A isn't working

Hi Geoff, just a little baffled right now with the result and the state of rugby so excuse any grammatical errors ! For the life of me I can’t work out why Banks,Gordon or Timu weren’t given any game time, poor Banks hasn’t been given adequate amount of time to shine and to be frank I thought Korobete’s brashness and unregulated freedom with ball in hand (i.e flick passes) were not that of the temperament you expect from an international and could’ve been quite costly! I’m a rebels fan but wonder whether Banks should be allowed a wing spot, even on the EOYT if people don’t want to him facing the AB’s first (But I have belief in him). Regarding Timu, I’m still not convinced with him but in saying that ….Him or Hanigan makes an easy choice in my book! Hanigan could be the best bloke in the world for all I care but that does not make him Test standard (Praying for a multi-selection panel to be installed!).Phipps is old(ish) and a known quantity , now is the time to give Powell or Gordon a start in the Italy game on EOYT as I believe we can still win easily with them at the helm.
1.Kepu(TT bench)
2.Latu (BPA Bench , and Taf to start once he’s back)
3.Sio(once he’s fit)(AAA bench)
4.Arnold(Rodda Bench)
5.Coleman
6.Dempsey
7.Pocock
8.Timu
9.Genia
10.Toomau
11.Banks
12.Beale
13.Hodge (TK once he’s back)
14.Folau
15.DHP
Sorry for the long winded rant, but my question is how do you see this lineup of what I believe is best XV right now?
