Maybe Team Ponga is raising a bit of noise about 3rd party deals to void that contract?

The Fifita flip: What happens now for reeling Roosters and their unexpected $3.4 million bounty?

Daniel Tupou is going around again. At his age, was always going to be a year to year prospect. Doueihi would be a bargain basement backup only. S Smith is a prospect at 6.
Ponga at 6 has been put to bed. Not sure if the Chooks would like the Team Ponga headache.
The Butcher boys are solid performers. Wong and Angus will feel the love again. Losing a back up 2nd rower is not the end of the world (sorry Sitili).

I was under the impression Crichton was looking outwards for a while, including French rugby. Was this because he was unwanted, lost interest in the game, or was just playing well below his usual standard. He has been looked after by the Chooks when he took some time off, and has only recently returned to top form.

Roosters chief stunned by HUGE Fifita backflip but Gus says they've 'dodged a bullet'

As a public servant, I resemble that comment!

V'landys may as well be executive chair because he's doing both jobs but league needs to fix lack of female leadership

I’m not sure how history will remember Go, Anderson and Castle, but it would be only fair to judge them on their performance, not gender. Pick the best person for job. If that person be of a different gender, so be it. As the game’s base broadens, diversity will come, and in time flow through the management ranks.

India should prepare turning pitches, but not ‘bunsen burners’. The burners only bring the largely previously unheralded visitors’ spinners into the game (see Kuhnemann, Krejza, Hartley). Greentops at home assist the visitors’ pacers the same way.

Business as usual: India still a dominant force at home

Someone doesn’t want to be where he isn’t wanted. Wonder what came first?

Nofoaluma OUT at Tigers after record-breaking decade of service following brutal Benji blow-up

Agree. Smith is showing the reason the chooks were so patient with him during his run of injuries. DT is so underrated and the chooks look so much better when he plays. I have nothing against JS’s decision to go to RU, and he should not get a run on the wing for round 1 unless there are injuries.

Joey v Dom v Toops: Why the Roosters should ditch Suaalii from their backline for Round 1

and then when that grows, you can have another league with the elite of the elite,or a Super Dooper League. Geez………… just gave myself a headache.

Peace in our times: How long until the NRL is disrupted by another Super League-esque competition?

I can’t see it, but…. More teams coming into a competition naturally reduces the median talent going around every week. That may invite a ‘super’ or ‘premier’ league whio can spruke a best of the best league.

Had a beer (s) with Dougie many years ago (at least I was told I did).

Grabbing a cold one: What I'd like to discuss with David Warner

D K Lillee was one of the greatest bowlers I ever saw, and I am sure those who played against him agree. I am loathe to compare cricketers from different generations, but I think your comparisons are a bit unfair. I note you failed to mention World Series Cricket, where he played against the best of the best.
Its seems your article is biased based on DK’s personality, or his captains antics. I am not sure how relevant it is at what age they started or how long they were out injured. There is no relevance in run outs either. I assume this was raised to go to your claim home umpires were biased. I will accept that home umpires generally favoured the home team, but not to the extent you indicate. Your generalisation is not fair, and DSR works both ways. Also, I doubt umpires in sub continent were rushing to raise the finger, just ask Border or Gatting.

Lillee was never captain, so I am not sure Cummin’s captaincy is relevant to this argument.
PC is a great bowler, and hopefully has a long career. To paint DKL as a petulant, home track bully where his wickets were gifted by bullied umpires is naïve at best, and unpleasant at worst.

Pat Cummins isn't Dennis Lillee's fast-bowling equal - he's actually much better

I feel for the ‘leftover scraps’ that were selected, must not be good for the ego. Also feel for NZ if they don’t win in a canter. Often an unseen player goes well early before they are worked out. Hopefully it is just a reflection of the current poor financial state of SA Cricket, and not a harbinger of doom. SA Cricket has issues, as does the whole country.

South Africa backstabbed the Black Caps with their squad of leftovers - and twisted the knife into Test cricket

I coached my son from when he was 7, and had great enjoyment in playing with him in his 1st senior game. I was lucky enough to share a partnership with him, and even ‘let’ him outscore me.

From paddock games on the farm to watching Test cricket's greatest players: A lifetime of cricket memories

Yep, I am kicking up a stink. Easier to park the bus if you have less time to survive. I understand and appreciate the issues raised, and maybe it is the way to go forward, but not for me. Maybe we can have grades of test cricket,
1. Test cricket (Aust-India-England)
2. Not quite test cricket (Rest of current test playing nations)
3. Not test cricket (One day)
4. Not cricket (20-20)
Maybe I am just pining for simpler days, but remember, at your age, I was younger than you! 🙂

Four-day Tests? Traditionalists say no but red-ball format needs to move with the times to stay relevant

I have it on good authority that the rough was shortened and the greens slowed down to accommodate the women. I am a fan of the womens’ game, but not on the same course. I agree there was a interest due to closeness of the scores, but I prefer each gender to be tested to their limits on courses how they would normally be prepared. Also, I felt that Buhai didn’t have the opportunity to celebrate her win as she had to get off the green to accommodate the men.

'Let him cook': Min Woo Lee poised for stardom as golf form starts to rival his social media game

Agree that he is a hit with the younger fans. I was at the event on Sunday and was surprised on how young the crowd was. Many ‘Gen Z’ of all genders there. It showed how starved Australia is of quality golf. Now all I want is an improvement on the woeful TV coverage and the women to have their own event, and I will be more content.

Agree that Harris seems to have an ongoing weakness square of the wicket, while it seems Bancroft has tightened his game up. Always been a fan of Renshaw who has not been treated well by selectors. For me, Harris is a distant 3rd to the other two, and whoever gets the gig will have a relatively easy opponent to make the spot their own. Ideally, they would be given the go in the 1st test of the summer, not halfway through. Sadly, that would interrupt someone’s hardly deserved victory lap.

Harris, Renshaw or Bancroft? Choosing Warner’s Test replacement should be opener and shut case for selectors

Realistically, only Bancroft, Renshaw and Hardie are a chance to be in the AU long form squad in foreseeable future. I didn’t realise Paris’ stats were so good, but like Tremain, probably has missed the boat. Wade, Burns and Handscomb would be a backward, if not somewhat safe against the upcoming opposition, step.

Sheffield Shield Wrap: Who impressed in Round 3?

Would be an interesting game against NSW with Starc, Cummins, Smith, Hazelwood, Lyon, Zampa, Abbott and Warner in the team. Shame the Shield is an afterthought now.

Star-studded Sandgropers are ready to contend again: Western Australia 2023/24 squad analysis

I am a regular player and viewer of ‘pointless’ golf games, be it PGA Tour or LIV. I agree it is not TV friendly. LIV coverage makes me dizzy. The PGA Tour coverage mainly focuses on popular US players who are part of the ‘boys club’. If you are trying to follow an Aussie, good luck unless they are leading.

For the Ryder Cup, due to my irrational dislike of USA, I was barracking for Europe. The golf was exceptional and edge of the seat stuff. Due to the smaller fields, the TV coverage was very watchable and it was not hard to follow the ebbs and flows of the games. I am not sure why the Cup is so popular, but I also struggle to understand how other ‘pointless’ sports, like Rugby Union and football garner so many followers. Maybe we all have a lack of sanity when it comes to following certain sports.

Golf is 'the most pointless of sports'... So what drives our love for the Ryder Cup?

It is hard to ask the horse, but some appear to prefer the racing environment rather than a paddock. The owners are well in front and they can probably make some more coin with the horse running around, plus having the enjoyment of an owner involved race day. While it may be a diminishing return, a gelding’s record has no intrinsic value if not racing. I’ll take a 4th in the T.J rather than a maiden win at Port Macquarie. As long as he is sound, good luck to the connections.

What happens when athletes overstay their welcome?

The NRL is an organisation that has been created to run a competition and to make commercial decisions in that respect. As an organisation that was created, not voted for, it should not assume to represent any political, religious or social issues. Whether the Voice vote is agreed to or not, it is irrelevant. Unless the NRL accepts voting input from players or fans, it should keep in it’s lane and run the competition to it’s best ability.

Keep politics out of sport? Why NRL simply had to throw its support behind the Voice

Alan Jones?

A flashback to the year 2000 and a very curious coaching coincidence

Firstly, Mitch seems like a genuinely nice bloke, and it is not his fault that the selectors keep picking him. That said, he is an ideal shorter format player or the level just below test cricket. He is vulnerable to the moving ball, quick or slow, and is not a valid choice for the spot of 6/7 in a test line-up. As noted, he has a long history of injury, and it would be a grave error to select him based on that without a solid lead up of miles in the legs. Hardie appears a valid backup to Green. Genuine test all rounders are rare, and selectors shouldn’t weaken the 6 position in an effort to make silk from a porcine hearing organ.

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?
