How about Usman Khawaja as a comparison? Picked out of position as test opener in the twilight of his career. Off the top of my head, I cannot think if any Australian test opener with a better record.

Gosh, the fuss. The angst.
I do like Camerons Bancoft & Green, but Green is the better cricketer with the better first class and test records than Bancroft. Of course Green should be picked.
Steve Smith may bat at four, but is also a better cricketer than Bancroft and, I reckon, would be a better opener. The other dude to open against WI was also not a specialist when first picked in that position for Australia, and in fact bats at four for his state. He also has the best average as an opener for Australia since, gee I don’t know, Justin Hayden-Ponsford.

The last time I went to a Swans match, a black man was booed mercilessly throughout the game. I don’t like Port Adelaide, but wow, I was stoked to see Aliir Aliir win the game for them that night.
