Yes it’s job justification at its best (or worst?!) thanks for reading John ?
The AFL has problems, but not where they think
Thanks for the perspective Jai. For any Eagles fan, or any football fan to cheer that act would be cringeworthy and even more. To hear seasoned pros like Mitchell react in the way they did was disappointing. We can only hope Brayshaw makes a full recovery, and as an Eagles fan myself the reality is that Gaff shouldn’t play again this season and doesn’t deserve to. The numerous calls for jail time, however, are simply a bridge too far
Some perspective on West Coast fans' reaction to the Gaff hit
Its not a judgement, it just what I think might have happened. I k now as much as the next punter. By ‘under the table’ deal, I am not naive enough to think that doesn’t happen. As an ex-champion of the club, he is entitled to build a plan to return and coach but would make more sense for him to exit his deal early if there was a head coaching job available. Of course, the family reasons for moving are being bandied about as the main reason and may well be the main factor, but if he had a head coaching gig available he would be doing everything possible to ‘move home’.
Memo St Kilda: Give Sam Mitchell the top job
Well written piece Jai. As an Eagles tragic, Mitchell can disappear into thin air for all I care having strung us along very well…but meing more measured, he would be a massive improvement on Richardson who seems yet another ‘good bloke who can’t coach’. If I was a betting man, I would say that Hawthorn and Mitchell had an under the table deal when he left to come to the Eagles and that he will move back to the Hawks, but his career might be better served taking the reigns of a team in his own right and force his own path
Memo St Kilda: Give Sam Mitchell the top job
Thanks Savage, and yes I agree – LeBron would make every other player on his team better even if Jordan would likely do anything possible to dominate the game
It's not about Jordan anymore
Good points Wayne, lets hope the logical view when LeBron likely loses another Finals series in a few weeks is that we recognise what he has done, not how many rings he has
It's not about Jordan anymore
Thanks Astro, my perspective on things has changed a heap – I used to compare players and teams any time I could, but now just want to watch this guy try to scale the Warriors mountain and appreciate however long he has left.
It's not about Jordan anymore
Mushi has described it perfectly, I should have gone into more detail. Thanks for the feedback
It's not about Jordan anymore
Wow, seeing LeBron live must have been something else! What an experience. Thanks for commenting
It's not about Jordan anymore
I subscribe to that theory as well Jai, the Warriors seem in cruise mode but will need to find another gear to ensure the Pelicans don’t become more than an annoyance. I still hold hope for the Bucks, but Giannis needs to be the guy we all know his is, rather than sit back and accept taking just 10 shot attempts
You wanted entertainment? The NBA is delivering
I think the Jazz are a serious chance to knock off the Rockets. Their team resembles a complete jigsaw puzzle, where all the pieces fit perfectly!
You wanted entertainment? The NBA is delivering
Wall continues to confound, when he chooses to be he is among the very best players in the world! They will fancy their chances of progressing past the next round if they can get the win against Toronto
You wanted entertainment? The NBA is delivering
Couldn’t agree more Tony, the quality of Aussie talent throughout the league has to make you feel bullish about our chances of a long-awaited Olympic medal in 2020!
You wanted entertainment? The NBA is delivering
So after 2 games in all series we can group the series in two bunches – likely to be short and/or brutal (Pelicans-Blazers, Raps-Wizs,Celts-Bucks, Rockets-Wiz and Warriors-Spurs) and set to go the distance (Jazz-Thunder, 76ers-Heat, Cavs-Pacers) …
Re-ranking the top 4 I have Cavs-Pacers, 76ers-Heat, Thunder-Jazz and then Pelicans-Blazers, because surely Portland can get back into this? Can’t see a way for the Wiz, Spurs, Bucks or Wolves climbing back into their respective series
NBA first round entertainment rankings
Yes those are the three series I am most looking forward to as well! Minny almost beat Houston despite KAT having a lower usage rate than Crawford and Rose…go figure!
NBA first round entertainment rankings
I have watched plenty of Indiana but must say today’s result was a shock. Well played to them, the have put the King and his crew on the back foot!
NBA first round entertainment rankings
Yep I should have snuck Exum into the column! The Rockets challenge is the lack of post season success amongst this group, Harden will be keen to remove the stench of last season’s final game

Thanks Owen, an update is being worked on as we speak and will hopefully be up in the next day or so
The NBA playoffs are finally here (almost)
For mine that stat says so much about how Sydney has been a dour defensive team, but now they have the attacking power, midfield depth and youth to complement that defence. I look at Sydney defend and think that surely you could expose players like Laidler and Grundy by getting them one-on-one but perhaps they are just a very well oiled defensive machine? I think your second comment is spot on Christo – they don’t get the kudos they deserve
The Sydney Swans are rightful flag favourites
Thanks for commenting Dougie. Libba is ‘miles’ ahead of Puopolo, and Wallis is a spot behind him. I don’t see Wallis as having had anywhere the impact thus far but he should bolt past Puopolo in the coming years. I am interested to hear your argument behind Wallis being ahead of Darling, in particular.
Re-doing the 2010 AFL national draft
Johno, I have simply re-done the national draft and not included the rookie draft so McGovern and Dahlhaus are not eligible
Re-doing the 2010 AFL national draft
Yep that’s a bad blue on my behalf, thanks for picking it up John
Re-doing the 2010 AFL national draft
Paul, upon reflection I could have been a little harsh on Stringer. He seems to be a barometer for the Dogs and while his numbers against top 8 teams this season are inconsistent those 2015 stats measure up very well.
Ranking the AFL young guns
That’s a great comparison Macca, Docherty is under-rated by the general footy public for mine but probably would have been the next one ranked if I extended the list.
Ranking the AFL young guns
Agree entirely! Just leave the game alone and September will hopefully deliver some great moments! Thanks for reading
