Spot on Dayer – for too long the Blues have looked to those two for leadership….all the do is whinge and nag and allow the QLDers to get cheap penalties – that equals field position and points!
In the invariably tight games of SOO, these two have actually become a liability for the Blues – we should flick em and move on…find a couple of young tough blokes who’ll out their bodies on the line and a but less jaw flapping….
Time for a culture and perception shift for the NSW Blues
surely Ryan, the legality around such a lucrative contract would be done on an “arms length” basis by the NRL. Do you really think they were actively involved in contract negotiations? Or as one of your other commentators here has mentioned, providing a guarantee that the club wont go under? It would be a pretty decent conflict of interest and would have other clubs screaming blue murder….
Did the NRL take a leaf out of the AFL's book with Cherry-Evans' signing?
……though you’re absolutely spot on about having to perform – it’s hard to sledge when you’re on a run of single digit innings….(doesn’t stop most 4 graders doing it though….)
Where does Virat Kohli rank among the greatest villains to visit our shores?
I would definitely add Stuart Broad to this list – what a grub. Smashed that ball and just stood there – and then loved it when everyone got into him….this summer even though I’m a diehard Aussie fan, I’ve enjoyed Kohli. HE’s given the aussies a bit of their owm medicine back to them…it’s made for great theatre!

Yeah KP has to go…..it’s OK! he’ll surely get a million in the IPL…..
KP the scapegoat for Ashes debacle, and it's a disgrace
boy o boy – where to begin?
they have descended into a rabble as a recent post states…..my feeling is that KP and the coach need to go and Cook stays. I know that sounds crazy as Cook has underperformed badly but who else could step into the captaincy?
But obviously Flower has lost the dressing room and KP doesn’t care any more – his mode of dismissal throughout most of the series is testament to this. They both clearly aren’t communicating well and the whole english set up needs a clean out.
Mind you as an Aussie I have loved every minute of it! Lets hope nothing changes and they keep rolling along as a dysfunctional bunch.
How good was the Ashes?

seriously Andrew? are you for real? this article is hilarious because a lot of it is true…..!!!! mate, you need to chill…
I hate the way England play Test cricket
Bang on Ryan!!! My feeling is that the NRL has done their market research on what their fans like (The Biff) and can hear the whistling in the wind (Violence is bad in league, video games etc etc) and the two don’t match. So, rather than be seen to be out of step with public opinion, they just stay pretty quiet.
Is everyone in rugby league completely mad?
Great read Ryan! I’m flabbergasted at the Nanny Brigade on the media re punches being thrown. I dont watch alot of league anymore and, having grown up in the 70’s and 80’s, i quite miss the tough men of league. I loved the biff on wednesday night – loved it. Two blokes – bit of niggle in the lead up and it was on. Yes he should have got 10 and yes someone could have got their jaw broken BUT THEY’RE GROWN MEN!!! In the end, the game went on and flowed….
I’ll be interested in game 2 if the refs show some consisitency – if Myles stands up and clocks Gallen in the face? What then?
I should hope, Myles on report, penalty and lets play footy!
Please stop talking about mums and their kids – this is not under 8’s! It’s a spurious link and i agree with an earlier post that drug/drink binges, bashing/glassing girlfriends etc are having a grater impact on the game than a couple of punches in the heat of the moment.

Kallis – strong body, strong mind, great technique. Has been under-rated for a decade.
A look at the selections of Henriques, Maxwell and Smith
Great article Ryano – it bought back memories of Ian Harvey’s fielding…..one of the all-time great fielders in my mind. I have had the good fortune to work with (and have a few beers) with Ian. I can’t tell you the amount of times he would take an absolute screamer at mid wicket or short cover from a shot that was right out of the screws….and just nonchalantly…..he really was special. He’d be perfect in the Aussie line up right now, wouldnt he?

perfectly said – couldn’t have put it any better…..
SPIRO: Rugby gives Folau all the money in the world
cracking call seano – i say khawaja at 6 and give him time to get established. he is all class and has an excellent technique. He just pips Hughes, who has looked markedly improved this season
Does the Australian Test team have the right openers?
yeah absolutely – and of course, the end result is tests that don’t go 5 days anymore….how can they? no batsmen have the patience!!! It just makes Faf Du Plessis’ innings in that second test all the more remarkable!!! I must admit, i feel that only Clarke and Hussey could possibly pull that sort of all-day batting display in our current line-up…..
Does the Australian Test team have the right openers?
Good chat Ryan – i agree that Warner needs to pick his moments…..unfortunately 20/20 cricket is starting to change the way batsmen bat, there’s no doubt about it. Most batsmen start getting a bit twitchy when they haven’t scored in a few balls and you can just sense the rash shot is coming. This is a huge shift from previous generations – i recall Mark Taylor not scoring for 20 mins or more at times….just letting good balls go and then finally getting one on his hip and clipping it away for four! Definitely Micheal Slater (of that same generation) was probably the start of the dashing openers….looked great and was amazing when it all clicked, but was also highly likely to get dismissed early playing flashy shots. I think 20/20 cricket has a lot to answer for when you ask why the current crop cant average in the high 40’s. So much has changed…….
Does the Australian Test team have the right openers?
Thanks Titus, thats awesome to hear…..i didnt realise that local derby is already sold out, striker….lets hope this is the start of something big for the A league and they really capitalise on the cracking interest across the code……i dont know how they can manage the financials ( as i understand it, foxtel pays $6 mill to have A league) but they really need to get it into FTA so the masses can enjoy the beautiful game!!!
Confessions from an A-League debutant fan
Great read Ryano….it was my first live game since seeing Sydney FC go around with Dwight Yorke….and i thoroughly enjoyed it….i concur with everything in your article….but the big thing i noticed was how good Sydney FC looked going forward and how POOR they looked defending….the back four did a nice impression of turnstiles and Newcastle cruised in 3 quite soft goals…..this is a key issue for sydney FC going -forward as, if they keep losing games….the 35k crowds will dwindle….dioes anyone know if they have any money left for a defender after buying Del Piero?? (gee, how good was he though?)

I think you’re being very polite and diplomatic Ryan – 1992 team would destroy the current one….loved that charles barkley!!!
Stop calling Team USA the Dream Team
classic post!!! thanks for keeping it in moderators!!!
Stop calling Team USA the Dream Team
Yeah must agree with Mark Young – these blokes are all grown ups who should know better….I get it…it’s difficult to be on tour and manage lots of different egos, abilities etc. So sometimes there’s a blow up or two. Just leave it all in the dressing room and don’t have to air it out in public. It’s a bad look for all concerned.
Clarke’s retirement – and book – ends Australian cricket’s civil war
