I do believe that’s why some of the crowds are down, but it’s hard to tell as well because the other week there was pretty much a full stadium at the socceroos and then you’ll probably get 90k to the first MCG AFL game so who really know’s?

Covid is still a pain in the A.. at any sporting event or just going out in general. It’s exhausting and I still wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still a turnoff for a lot of people. Even though I’m still going to the games, I hate all the..Security Check-ins, masks, distancing, Signs, Scanning, (I still do it)
then repeat it all again when you go to the next venue after the game. Covid is an inconvenience! I myself just feel like staying home because it’s easier. The quicker it goes the better obviously!

Why should we expect much more than 15K when we have around 19-20k members this year. Also it was obviously a paid game. I think Australian football is now down to the real hardcore fans and very few casual fans (much like BBL). It looks as though the Cup Final didn’t attract those casual fans to boost the crowd. The APL needs to work holding onto the hardcore football fans first, because yes MV and WSW have definitely lost a few of those over the last few years and then hopefully the rest will take care of itself. The night was still an amazing atmosphere regardless.

Victory couldn’t play the semi final in Wellington anyway could they..(you can’t count that)

Victory have played one extra match and had a tougher run than CCM…Things even out through the tournament but people only see what they want to see and find things to whinge about..

What’s last place got to do with it? Any regional and NPL clubs that finished last from the previous season are still eligible to enter..It’s a ‘CUP’ which entitles every Australian Club to have a crack at it regardless of league position, the only difference being MV and Perth had to playoff to enter the R32 (as an incentive to AL clubs to stay off the bottom of the table (bc of not having relegation)…No different in England with the FA Cup, every club has an opportunity to win it (totally separate competition to the league)..
