Agree with the 20 team format, this would also allow for greater travel demands and allow a six week rep stand down (would schedule long haul travel either side of this break)
My expansion picks would be
NSW Country, based in Dubbo, but games played throughout NSW Country
Pacifica team ( based in Cairns, to play games in PNG, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji)
Southern NZ (based in Christchurch to play games in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington)
Tokyo (based in Tokyo and Central Coast) refer to salary cap
Europe (based in london and perth) play games in london, paris, rest of europe and perth – refer to salary cap.
South Africa – based in Joburg and North Sydney (huge untapped expansion market)
I would increase the salary cap to 20 million.
A) To get the best european/uk talent playing for Europe in the NRL.
B) Raid the best of Rugby Union talent, effectively burying that code/competition
Huge pool of NZ, South African talent to go to radical expansion markets.
C) Weed out/merge sydney clubs like Wests,Canterbury,Parramatta, Manly,Cronulla and force them to make there operation a commercial success by either relocating -Perth/Darwin/Hobart/NSW North Coast or merging or both.
For the teams that are based on long haul flights they base themselves in Australian locations for two stints of 9 weeks and then fly to home games either side of the six week rep standown and the first game and last game of the season.
Cant wait to see happen and be a radical financial failure 😉
